    January Bandsters???

travelbug, I have lost a lot of weight, but I'm counting my pre-op. I lost 20 lbs BEFORE I even had surgery. I started really trying to lose weight the second I got off the scales at the doctor's office in November, I didn't have my surgery until January. So I had 2 months of dieting before my surgery. I know some just count their day of surgery weight, but to me, I've worked hard at losing every pound, so I'm counting them all. Pre-surgery and all. Now, as for slow loser's, let me tell you, I lost a lot my first 2 weeks, I was only on Clear liquids, so who wouldn't lose. Then I gained my 3rd week. And then I lost this week. I think what happens is your body has to catch up to you, once it realizes your not going to "starve" yourself, it will release more poundage. Also, drinking Water is so important. I also was put on a c-cap machine for sleep apnea, and I really think this has sped up my matabolism. I know it is frustrating, I was depressed my third week when I gained a pound, so I had my DH & DD hide the scales from me, now I'm trying to only weigh 1 x per week, or 1 x per month. My next weigh in will probably be 2/18, my 1 month anniversary. I'm also only able to eat 1/2 cup of food per meal, I know many are able to eat more right now. But so far, I'm still really really restricted. If I eat more than 1/2 cup of food, I get a horrible pain in my left shoulder, kinda like the gas pains. I have over eaten twice, and both times, ended up in bed with a heating pad on. Now I just measure my food out and eat really slow. Please don't be disappointed in your own progress, sometimes slow & steady really will win the race.....And congratulations on 10 lbs lost forever! Also, the older we get, (over 40) we start losing muscle every year. The less muscle we have, the slower our matabolism moves. I firmly believe weight training is very important with anyone over 40 (or younger) because this will help us lose weight. I plan on starting my weight training as soon as I can (after 3 months). I'm hoping to hire a personal trainer for 1 month, 3x per week to help me out.

Your doing Great! I am wondering when I can eat more? I cannot finish 1 egg yet. I'm only eating about 3/4 of 1 egg. I'm 25 days post op?

Sherilynn - I was horified too when I saw the port incision, however, it has gotten smaller now. I've also been putting Vitamin E oil on it about 3 times a day.

    January Bandsters???

I think in March, we can all start posting our exercises, etc. I'll be keeping track of mine in my journal too, along with my munues. I have to go get a malapsorbtion test, my doctor requires it before my 1st fill. I can't believe I have to get that test, when I had the lap band, not gastric bypass, but oh well. I go to my appointment 3/1 and will have my fill shortly afterwards. I am wanting to kick up my exercises, I can't wait to get back to weight training and the eliptical machine. However, my body is still refusing to let me kick it up a notch. My doc said no weights for the first 3 months, which bugs me. I think the more muscle I can build, hopefully the less sagging skin I will have. I'm 40 and need all the help I can have. I don't want the apron!

    January Bandsters???

The EXACT same thing happened to me. I got really really sore in my port area. I talked to my doctor and he said STAY OFF THE TREADMILL for 4 - 6 weeks, but I can walk a track, or walk my block, or mall, etc. The treadmill is a little too bouncy. Some people I guess do fine with it, but it made me really sore. So, I'm walking our long halls at work for now.

    I'm headed to ONERLAND

Okay - I admit it, I weighed this morning. Only because I felt skinnier, and my DH told me I looked skinnier. So I decided to "test" the scales. I was happy to see that they have dropped 5 lbs since last Monday. I weighed in at 210.8. I'm almost to the 40 lb mark! But, More exciting than that, I'm almost out of the 200's - I'm headed to onerland! I'm feeling good these days, feeling more confident and still I have a lot of restriction. Menu yesterday Bfast - poached egg with grated cheese Lunch - 1/2 container of refried beans dinner - 1/2 container of refried beans late night snack - Inside of a crabcake

Okay, first of all CONGRATULATIONS ON 6LBS LOST! That is GREAT. Be proud of what you have done. But please realize everyone loses at a different pace, only our own bodies can tell us when we will lose. I was feeling down myself last week, I GAINED A pound. But, you just have to shrug it off and move on. Remember, the most important thing about the first 6 weeks is HEALING, not losing. If you lose anything in the first six weeks, its a bonus. Hang in there and you will start to see some results, especially once you hit that "sweet spot".
  9. Hi Cindy, I celebrated my 3 week post op anniversary yesterday. My first fill will not be until around the first of March. Right now, not sure if I need one, I'm still really restricted. Welcome!

    January Bandsters???

I wish I could help ya, but I'm struggling with getting my protein in as well. I do try and drink a protein shake a day to give me a bit extra, or add the protein in with pudding or something. Chicken & fish are both great sources of protein. I have a book called "eating well after wls", there are some wonderful recipes in there, I'm at work right now, so I can't look at. Maybe this weekend I will look at it and post some of the recipes. I am still on mushies, I have another week until I can eat meat.

    3 weeks post op

Yesterday marks my 3 weeks post op. I've lost weight, I've lost inches and I feel pretty good. My port side is still sore, it is actually has a slight burning pain today. But not too misserable. I went to see my gynocologist and told her I had the lap band surgery, she was pleased. She has seen great progress from people. I also weighed 214 on her scales, with my jeans on and I feel constipated. So Naked, I might weigh less:clap2: . One problem I am having is I am waking up extremely early in the mornings. I wake up refreshed and ready to go. Monday I woke up before the alarm at 5:30, same with Tuesday. Wednesday & Thursday I woke up around 4:30. Now this morning, I'm wide awake at 3:30 am! I didn't go to bed until after 11:00 - I was caught up with Larry King, Nancy Grace on the Anna Nicole death. So I probably didn't get to sleep until midnight. That means I only got about 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night. I'm not sure why I'm waking up, not sure if its the C-pap machine doing it or what? But for the life of me, I cannot go back to sleep. I got up at 3:30, looked on the internet on Ebay - Then I found myself hungry, so I had a SF pudding snack with protein powder mixed it. One other thing I'm noticing is in the mornings, I find myself dry heaving. Not sure why, but feel a little nausious in the mornings - NO, I'M NOT PREGO. My menu today: 4:00 am - SF pudding with a heaping TBSP of protein powder 7:00 am - 1 egg over easy 12:00 pm - 1/2 cup of cottage cheese 4:00 pm - 8 oz protein shake 8:00 pm - soup with shredded cheese (1/2 cup)

    January Bandsters???

I felt bad too the first 10 days, but then by the 12th day I felt like I could have made it back to work, however, I went ahead and took another week off. I am 3 weeks post op as of yesterday, I'm feeling okay, still have a little port pain that comes & goes. And I am only eating about 1/2 cup of food at a time. Some days food appeals to me, and other days it doesn't, like today, I could care less about food, but I'm eating my 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. I was reading a book - Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, it states that Lapband patients should only be eating about 1/2 cup of food for the first 3 to 4 months, so I guess I'm doing okay. I've had absolutely no problems with PBing, or even feeling like I could PB. Nothing gets stuck, and things seems to go down smoothly, however, I'm full quickly. This little journey we've taken is exactly a journey. We are all different, heal differently, and lose differently. Just hang in there and I know you will turn the corner soon.

    January Bandsters???

I certainly understand how you feel. We are planning our cruise Aug. 5, of this year. I find myself wondering, will I love the cruise as much as I love the ones in the past because Food was a big part of the cruise. Its really hard to get food out of your head. But I am enjoying the journey. I believe the more weight we lose, the less food will be on our mind.

I forgot to mention to you guys that as a gift to myself for the "new me", I got my teeth bleached. It cost me $410 but I believe it is the best gift I have ever given myself. I can't believe the difference. I am getting so many comments on how pretty my teeth are. One girl today at work asked if I had veneers. I love them!

    Urgent Help Needed For Friend

If the doc won't see her, she needs to go the ER. My doctor's instructions said to call if there was a fever. I did not run a fever at all, I was sore a bit longer than most people, however, I am now 3 weeks post op today and feel great. I am still on mushy foods - I had to do Clear liquids 4 days before surgery, and clear liquids for 2 weeks after surgery. Please keep us updated on your friend.

    My first NSV

This might seem a little weird, however, it made me feel so good so I believe it is a NSV. I was sitting at the red light yesterday, and I could feel someone looking at me, and I turned to the left, and there are these 2 young boys hitting on me. The driver was practically hanging out the pasenger window trying to get my attention. Now, I'm a very happily married woman for 19 years, but let me tell you, it felt good to have these 19 yr old boys flirting with me. I know they would have just crapped thier pants had they known I was 40! LOL. I smiled back and drove away..............

    January Bandsters???

I feel the exact same way. The scales are saying "I gained" however, my clothes are saying "I've lost". I also had a NSV yesterday. I was sitting at a red light when I could feel someone looking at me, I looked over the left and there were these two young boys giving me the looks and smiling at me. LOL. Wow, even though I'm 40 and happily married for 19 years, it still felt good to have these young boys notice me. They probably would have crapped their pants had they known I was 40. LOL. Here is another NSV I had, a guy I work with came up to me yesterday and said my face looks so much thinner and not only that, my complextion looked so much smoother too. He said he could tell I was losing weight. No one from work knows I had the Lap-Band surgery, but they they know I had a hernia repair, so thats all they think. Its just nice when someone notices. It lifts my spirits.

    January Bandsters???

Everyone is so different, but I would truly give yourself a full 2 weeks. I didn't feel like moving until around the 10th day. And I went to the gym on Monday which is about 2 1/2 weeks post op, I did 30 min on the treadmill at a 2.7 mph pace, and last night I was in tremendous amount of pain. I ended up taking a pain pill and sleeping with heating pad. I couldn't figure out why all of a sudden so much pain, but it finally hit me, "The treadmill", so, you don't want to overdue it too soon.
