I just had my first fill yesterday. It wasn't the best experience since he couldn't find my port and then finally listened to me when I told him where I thought it was. I guess I'm just feeling a little extra nervous that it didn't really go very well (ie missed the port) for a few reasons: He put 6ccs in my 11cc band, and I haven't felt a bit different yet. No issues with Water or any other liquids, no matter how much I'm drinking. (Yes I know issues is a good thing, but I thought I would feel restriction even on that right after and I didn't) I am pretty darn hungry! The injection site doesn't seem to be right over the port site. Is it at all possible he injected my body and not my port with saline? Which thankfully I know isn't harmful. I probably am just overthinking this and worried, but... I just thought I'd see what other people had to say about how they felt after their first fill. I'm just drinking liquids today, but tomorrow I'll start with mushy foods. He said I can start on regular food on Saturday. Thanks for your input guys!

i am so tickled that you asked this question!!! believe it or not i actually asked my surgeon this at my post op appointment because i like going to disney and going on rides! he said that it shouldn't be a problem at all! it isn't going to jostle the port out of place or anything like that. the only thing that you would have to think of is you are having any tenderness around the port area - if you are pushing on it too much it might aggravate it, but even still you won't "hurt" anything.

Getting things "moving" - a delicate ?
misspeacock replied to Karlzmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
honestly i'm 3 weeks out and i've yet to be "normal". i've taken a stool softener once in a while, but with limited results. i'm getting more used to it, unless it becomes uncomfortable, but i know it isn't hurting me. -
Entering fourth week, anyone?
misspeacock replied to Cory_Sanchez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was banded on the first so tomorrow will be a full three weeks for me. my 1st fill is on may 11. right around this past weekend i started getting hungry finally. or at least a feeling the is close to what hunger used to feel like. last night was the first night i've gotten to a point of being full. honestly i ate just a little more than i should have just to see if i could get full because i'm keeping my portions between a 1/2 cup to a cup and never getting full. that hasn't been terrible though, because i've also not been starving. my average day is a protein shake in the morning, cottage cheese (sometimes with avacado) for lunch, and well mushed tuna or egg salad at night. for snacks i eat bananas, a couple small bites of hummus, sugar free puddings and jello and above all else sugar free popsicle. i had no idea how they would save my butt. pretty much when i feel like i want something i'll grab one of those and i feel like i'm eating something, i get satisfaction from that, but with minuscule consequences. honestly, i'm really looking forward to my fill. i don't really feel like i have restriction and i am afraid of gaining some of the weight i've lost once i transition into more real foods this upcoming weekend. -
Ok so I am an over planner. My husband and I just got the lapband and I tried to make sure we had everything we needed for after. In some cases, too much! (see: more liquid in the house than we could drink in a year) However, I'm hoping my over planning will end up benefiting one or more of you guys. I bought two orders of nectar Protein powder variety pack thinking we would drink them - but yeah... not so much. So I would like to offer the packets to those that may want them. It is a first come first serve scenario. I'm willing to ship them out for free. You can ask for a specific flavor(s) or a whole set. Just be sure to read the comments before yours to figure out if I do or not so your aren't disappointed if I have to say no! Here is a link to what I'm talking about and the different available flavors: Syntrax Nectar Protein Variety Pack: Smartbody Nutrition I'm keeping up with the current amount I still have available after the name. Apple Ecstasy 1 Cappuccino 1 Fuzzy Navel 1 Lemon Tea 1 strawberry Kiwi 1 vanilla Bean Torte 1 I'll direct message each person I'm able to send to regarding getting your shipping info.

female hormonal changes question
misspeacock posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yesterday i was informed, for the first time, how hormones will change after banding. apparently i'm feeling the effects of that very quickly since i got my period 5 days early and in a major way (very uncommon). i hope it will level out because controlling my hormones with my birth control has made a huge difference to my migraine frequency. i guess i'm just worried it will be a vicious cycle starting up again. has anyone else gone through changes like this? -
Feelin like a true bandster ;)
misspeacock replied to nebraskahickchi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i agree with keeping it real! honestly i would love a graphic description of what a sliming really is! i'm only two weeks out and for me the more i know, the better i am at not worrying that somethings gone wrong. -
i scheduled my surgery just before spring break (i work for a college) so that i could have that week off, thinking that would be enough, and i ended up doing half days this second week. i'm glad i didn't take this week off though, because working the half days has helped work my stamina up.

nausea immediately after banding
misspeacock posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my husband was just banded yesterday, and i cannot believe how different our banding experiences have been (i was banded last week). I had issues he hasn't experienced, he is having issues i didn't experience. most alarmingly to me is the nausea that is causing him to mostly spit up, but over night he threw up a little bit. so has anyone else experienced something like this before right after banding. i'm feel like this is something that will go away, but it would be nice to hear from people with similar experiences. thanks for your help and suggestions guys!! you all are always so supportive! -

just banded with a few questions
misspeacock posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was just banded yesterday. woot! but my oh my this gas pain is really killing me, especially in my shoulder. i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on how to reduce the gas pain faster. i've been trying gas-x strips but i'm not sure if they are helping. also, i'm having some issues with my calves wanted to cramp up. my guess is that it is coming from a Vitamin deficiency, like potassium or something. i don't think dehydration since i was on a liquid drip in the hospital all day yesterday and have been drinking pretty constantly since then. has anyone else gone through this? any suggestions on what to do since i know i can't take a potassium pill right now (too big)? thanks for any help and advice!! -
i've been getting pain where my port is too and i'm 5 days out. i automatically figured it was my body adjusting to having the port simply there. mine is more of a dull ache, unless i twist wrong or lay on that side. i see my doc on thurs and just figured i would ask him then since it hasn't been too intense. i think it will be something that eventually will go away, but i hope it doesn't take that long for you! good luck!

just banded with a few questions
misspeacock replied to misspeacock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it really is such a comfort to know that i'm not alone going through this. you can't help but wonder -what am i doing wrong?! every hour (unless i'm sleeping) i make sure i get some walking in. i've really noticed the pain meds do nothing for the gas pain, but they do help the incision areas that hurt. actually what seems to be hurtin me is where the port is attached. at first i couldn't figure out why this area that has no incision hurt so badly, then i realized the port was attached directly underneath it! i hope we all get through this quickly! i know once this pain from the gas goes away i'll be fine. good luck to all of you! -

marisa - i'm sorry you are going through this too! my husband got me liquid maalox and that seems to help further the gas along. the shoulder pain is still killing me so thanks to everyone elses advice i'll be putting a heating pad on after i type this. i have tried to keep walking around as much as possible. this is my second day out and though last night was a bad one, today seems to be better then yesterday. i hope you keep seeing steady progression as well. -
Has anyone ever cheated on the pre-op diet
misspeacock replied to shae2405's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
today is my last day. tomorrow is surgery day. honestly the closest i've gotten to cheating is eating tomatoes and carrots. i just had to be on a low carb/fat diet. i promise you though, the two weeks will FLY by. i can't believe how quickly it has gone for me. you really can do it!! i know it seems like a struggle now, but after a few days it will get so much easier! -
i've poked around here for a while but i'm just now, as i approach my surgery date, getting involved. i've gone through a rollercoaster of emotions in the past few months. i felt like i leveled out for the most part, until this past week. plain and simple - i'm scared. i'm scared of going through surgery, i'm scared of having something foreign in my body, i'm scared of what life will be like after surgery. i want to get to a place where i am excited about losing the weight i know i need to lose. i'm going through this with my husband. he will be banded a week after me, and he is nervous, but so excited about our future. i want that feeling, but all i can feel right now is fear. i know this is the right decision and that is what keeps me moving forward. i've been morbidly obese for most of my life (if not nearly all) and if i don't drastically change my body and my health, i will end up with the health issues my family has. i don't want that future. i want a better future. i just wish i wasn't so scared of how to get it right now.

i'm currently at 291 and i think being in the 170-160 area would be a comfortable weight for me. so yeah - like 120ish! but you know, after reading the kind words people had to say to me, and looking at a lot of before and after pictures on here, i think my head is finally getting in a good spot! i'm almost getting excited!
I just got married in november and i am super excited to have my husband going through this too. he has about the same if not a little more to lose than me.
i've loved photography ever since college. mike got me a nikon d80 for my 30th birthday. i swear i died and went to heaven the day i got it!!!!! i'm completely addicted to different design blogs - like designsponge.com sooooo awesome!
it is really fantastic to find someone i can really relate too! in both the lap band and regular world!

banding this week and nervous
misspeacock replied to misspeacock's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I honestly can't even tell you all how much your responses mean to me. they have brought me so much comfort and given me so much support. the feeling is quite overwhelming. thank you all so very much! shannybp & loridunla - thank you both for reinforcing the fact that the emotional roller coaster is normal! it is so helpful to hear. montynic - my surgery is thursday as well! we will be on the exact same path! that is pretty cool. atgoalgal - i haven't written down my specific goals, but i do have them. the health related ones - and other silly ones (like being able to wrap my arms around my knees ) I have already taken a full length picture on the day i truly started this process, and i'm going to take another one on wednesday. i've lost nearly 20 lbs in between just by pre-changing my eating habits and now with the pre-surgery diet. gingerjane - "I'm looking forward to being able to shop in a store that is not specific to overweight girls." I so relate to this statement it isn't even funny. I just want to be able to shop in old navy again. cute cheap clothes! it was so disappointing when they took their plus sizes out of the store. it was the only place i felt - normalish. getting to shop in a normal girls store buying clothes was something i hadn't done up until that point. i'm really looking forward to doing that again.
