How much did you lose on post-op diet?

Between pre op and post op diet, I lost a total of 22 lbs. I am 2 weeks and 2 day post op and had my first fill yesterday and was advances to the muschies. It is hard to get them down it seems while trying to get in the protien goals.

60 Day Liquid Diet - Countdown

I had two weeks before banding and then 2 weeks post surgery. Hopefully Tuesday I can advance. So looking forward to the next step.
  3. if you are looking for an unflavored protein that you can mix- beneprotein is good. I also use whole nectar (wholenectar.com) The calories are a little more that what my doc wanted but I cut the serving size in half and mix it with 10oz of milk and sf carniation instant breakfast. I actually like this mixture better than the other protein shakes out there.
  4. I really do not understand the cheating on this plan. I am a week and a half after surgery and prior to that was on clear liquid with only 3-4 Protein shakes and still on that for another week. What is the purpose of going through this if rules are going to be followed. We all made a decision to change our lives and to deviate from this to help us in the long run really bothers me. I have a neighbor who had this done years ago and tries to tell me how he gets around things. Why? With my procedure, my surgeon takes an extra step to keep the band from slipping and he had a patient a few months ago not follow the guidlines and ended up really sick and on a ventelator for 3 weeks. I am sorry for sounding so rude but why waste the time if you are gonna just fall back into the same bad habits that got us into the place we are now.

Did I make the right decision?

The gas pain will get better. Walk, Walk, Walk, It really does help. I was banded on 3/29 and now feeling better. With the nausea, just keep sipping fluids. Take it easy and it will get better. Also, make sure you follow all the doctors orders to ensure there are no complications.
  6. My doctor has a program to go over all that stuff prior to the procedure. My goal is 60 grams a day and had to get into the habit prior. Some things that I found were soy nut (dry roasted edonmea(not sure if that is spelled correctly)) which has 14 g per 1/4 cup and protein bars (I love the pure protein brand has low calories, low sugar and 20 g of protein). I will have those with a peice of friut which helps getting it down with out drinking.

    1 Week Post Op...some concerns

It all sounds normal. Walking really does help. The runs are because you are not eating anything. Just keep in mind what goes in comes out. Sipping really does help the grumpling for me and keeps the pain down.

    Today I was banded!

I had the same thoughts on the day of surgery. The pain does get better. I had two incisions that hurt the worst. My doctor jokingly told me that he beat me up in those two spots. My first thought after surgery was "WOW I actually did it." Now I am just looking forward to starting my new healthy life.

    Post op three days

I was banded on March 29th. The first couple of days were hard to get the protein shakes in because of the swelling. It is getting better. My surgeon did warn me that the first few days were going to be hard to get the protein and liquids down. Just be patient. And stay hydrated I have really found that the zero vitiam water works best (and it has no sugar). :smile2:

just banded with a few questions

I am 5 days post op. I too had the same issues with the gas. I still have the pain the left shoulder. I am gonna try the heating pad to see if it will help me.

    Crushing pills question

I take chewable vitiams and calcium. As for the other vitiams, I was told to cut them into smaller pieces, which is not too bad. My allergy meds, I was told what I was taking pre-op were too big so now I am working with my PCP on alternatives (zytrec or nasal spray (which I am not liking too well).

    can i ever?

I was told the same thing about the celery but nothing about the onion. I was told after I get back onto solid food, it might be hard to tolerate raw veggies in the beginning. You just will have to try it and see what happens. I was also told no skins on apples.

    Gas pains

I was banded on this past Monday and really did not feel it until Wed. Walking does help but take it easy as you want to walk but do not have the energy to go that far. I just cannot wait until it goes away.
  14. I can totally relate to this. I have told many people and so many are supportive except for 2. One tried to tell me "Well you have been successful so far maybe reconsider the procedure." The other cannot understand what I am going through with the pre op and told me tonight that I should not have it because I am so weak (duh.. pre op liquid diet) Then you have the ones that you thought would not support you and end up being the biggest supporters.

    Can we talk pre-op diets?

It is amazing on how everyone's iet is just a little different. I am on 3 Protein shakes a day and Clear liquids (all I want!! WOOOHH WWHHOOOOO). I am almost to surgery and just ready to move onto the next part of this. I am so weak yet cannot sleep but keep telling myself it is for the best. Thanks for being able to read everyone story and know that there are others going through it too.

    liquid diets

My surgeon allows me to make my own with milk, SF carniation instant breakfast and an unflavored protein but has to be under 250 cal in total. It has worked out for me so far. I am towards the end of week 2 with surgery on the 29th and then 2 more weeks. It seems like it is getting harder every day.

60 Day Liquid Diet - Countdown

My doctor gave me a list of options with the requirements for any shake. I cannot imagine 60 days. I am on day 11 of 14 and then 2weeks after. I think I would probably cheat also with that length of time; but have not. I can say that I have been good with the help and support of my husband and close neighbors.

    Different doc, different liquid diet?

Wow, reading this has helped me understand alittle more. Although I do envy some of you that can each something. I am on a 3-4 protein shake (with more that 20 g of protein and less than 250 calories) and all the clear/noncarbonated liquids I want. I am only a few days away from procedure.
