Not drinking while eating
michellehoeffel replied to Mommyto1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was going through my 3 month "education" They had me ween myself off. This way it was not such a struggle once banded. Try doing that if you drink 8 oz cut it down to 6 then 4 and so on. I too was told and follow the 30 min before and after meals. Also in order to ensure that I get in the fluids necessary I try to drink at least 20 oz between meals/snacks and that has worked for me. If you are not eat or waiting between the time of what the doc has told you, then you should be drinking fluids. Hope this advice helps. -
Regret getting rid of smaller clother
michellehoeffel replied to Sun Rae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have regretted getting rid of some of my smaller clothes. I did save some of them but realized the other day that I did not have any workout clothes . I now check out the clearance racks for things and buy pants that are about a size smaller because it would just be throwing money way if I buy something that fits perfect for just a couple of weeks. I walso check out resale, thrift stores, goodwill to find something that is presentable. I am enjoying loosing the weight but never thought that I would have to buy new clothes every six weeks or so. I am just keeping my wardrobe to a min and once the goal weight I am going to go all out.:wink2: -
Haven't lost an ounce...help!
michellehoeffel replied to clm2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you are getting in enough calories. Although during this stage it is hard and I would not worry about it until you can start eating normal again. I too had a hault in the scale during this stage. -
End of Year Challenge
michellehoeffel replied to Bree99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too would like to join you. I am at 200.4 today and would like to be down to 180 by Christmas (which would put me at 101 lbs lost from Christmas 2009). Pre op Post op does not matter we are all here for the same purpose.:sneaky: -
How often do you weigh yourself?
michellehoeffel replied to WrenBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh myself everyday to keep myself on track, but only count Saturdays. -
Congrats!! I am just 9 lbs behind you. Since my journey I have lost 81 lbs since Christmas. I would love to say that this Christmas I am 100 lbs lighter. I still have about 50-60 to go. I have not pin pointed my exact goal, yet.

Removing Fill for Tonsilectomy
michellehoeffel replied to breesue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is to prevent the possibility of asperation (sp). Although in July I have major surgery where they had to remove my left ovary due to adhesions and attaching to other organs. The doctors ended up opening me up and luckly the general surgeon they called in was my LB doc. He did not feel that I needed to be unfilled. Docs are different and probably also depends on the patient with the reaction to anesthia. -

I noticed that I could put my purse next to me in the chair when I was waiting to get my 6 month follow up blood work done. Then tonight I really noticed the gap between my stomach and the steering wheel.:blushing::thumbup: -
Sudden band tightening out of nowhere?? Any advice??
michellehoeffel replied to LargeMediumSmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this happen once. My doc said that he has had a couple of patients have this happen to. He also indicated that he has spoken to other docs and it is unexplainable-- only that it happens at times. If you can get liquids down, see if you can hold out and that it readjusts on its own. If not go get an unfill. -
4oz's does not equal 1/2 cup!
michellehoeffel replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't eat 4 oz of Protein either but by no mean do I eat only three times a day. I have three meals and one snack, usually. For dinner as an example I will have 2 oz of protein (I have done this it is usually 1/4 cup) and a 1/4 of a side and that fills me. 4 liquid oz = 1/2 cup 4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup -
Mashed Cauliflower
michellehoeffel replied to TracyNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have made it with the chive and onion cream cheese and regular cream cheese (both low fat or fat free of course) and mix in 75% ff shredded cheese and stick it in the oven. OMG!!! Taste like potato casserole. and 13g of protein per 1/2 cup. -
I have been told people have problems. I tried it last week for the first time and was fine. The popcorn pops are in the chip isle in the grocery store about 170 calories for 1 cup. Again something that "slides" right through. I limit that because of the salt.

MUSHIES! What are you eating?
michellehoeffel replied to emsbugbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During my mushy stage I started to try to get creative. I browned up some hamburger very small and simmered it with some spagetti sauce and melted some cheese on top. It was heaven. I also for breakfast made cream of wheat added unflavored protien and some peanut butter on top. -

michellehoeffel replied to bandaide's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band does loosen over time with weight loss. You may just need a fill. -
What am I doing wrong!!?
michellehoeffel replied to Amanda-7/17/10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think with your workout you are not eating enough like the others have indicated and the sodium in the frozen meals. I also allow myself one day a week that I may decide to not be so strict (I like calling it that rather than cheating because it does not sound like you are doing something bad) and have been successful on the weight loss. -
Hair loss - Anyone?
michellehoeffel replied to Stacey627's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I noticed it also. My sister (who is a physician) actually really noticed a couple of weeks ago. She told me to bump up my daily vitiam (I take Flinstones) to 2 a day and to start taking folic acid. I always am at my 70 grams of protein a day. So we will see if that works. -
Did you tell anyone or ????
michellehoeffel replied to extraonme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before the surgery I really did not tell many people. I did not want to be talked out of it or discouraged until I knew this was for me. After that seeing the response and support from my friends and family, I do not shy away from it. When people ask me how I have lost the weight I tell them. To me it is like following a plan like weight watchers. Simply put a tool. I think people have a different out look on wls especially lapband. I even have so much support and have been told by my friends that they will kick my butt if they see me breaking the rules (which I have not). We have a friend who had the procedure and he does not follow and even was telling me ways to break the rules. Which of course I did not listen. -
getting enough protein.......
michellehoeffel replied to jadekatz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor also wants to hit at least 60 grams a day. 3 meals and 2 Snacks. I try to get Protein in at every meal. In the morning I have a shake which has about 30 grams of protein no sugar and only 214 calories. I treat my self at my evening snack if I have made the goal for the day with something nonprotein and healthy of course. It might be hard at first until you get used to it and you will find that you actually just know what to eat without even thinking about it.:smile2: -
have any of you wished you did gastric bypass instead
michellehoeffel replied to racheyrach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the lapband due to the lower risk. I was banded on March 29th and have been extremely happy with it. In addition, there are a lot more restrictions with bypass that I did not want to deal with.
