It's true that you don't need his permission to take care of your own health. Not sure this operation is something you can just tell him about later. Gonna be tough explaining those 4-5 scars that will be healing on your stomach! And why you can't lift heavy things for a few months. It is troubling that he hasn't shown compassion for others in our situation. If your partner is going to be the last person to know, it's troublesome to me. Are you shielding yourself from his reaction or shielding him from the real you and your need for some support? I'm no expert, but I have been with my partner for 21 years and keeping a secret has never been a good thing. If someone doesn't support you unconditionally, then they/you need to really figure out why. Not trying to bum you out! Good luck with the surgery and keep posting here for support!

I was banded on June 16 2010. So far I've lost 30 lbs including the pre-band time. It's a 14cc band and I now have 5.9 ccs in it. Think I'll be getting a little more restriction on Aug 10 because there are still times when I can eat more than I feel I should be able to. It's definitely a learning situation!

OK, I was complaining about feeling no restriction. Finally had an episode where I felt it big time about 10 days or so. I was either not chewing well enough or something got stuck or I ate too much. Whatever it was, it felt like a heart attack in my stomach! Lasted for 45 minutes and the sweat poured off me in sheets. Can't believe how quickly the brakes are put on! I promise to be good from now on!!

Got my initial fill on Friday. Doc ended up adding 3cc to my original 2.9 ccs. Couldn't feel the jello or water entering my stomach like I was supposed to. Today ate a whole can of vegetable beef and felt nothing. Maybe I should have eaten the can itself!! I know what full feels like, anywhere from just full to Thanksgiving full. Don't know how much saline my band will take, but I see further restriction down the road. Next visit in 3.5 weeks, unless my doctor has her baby early! Take your vitamins and move your butts, friends, or you will get scolded by your doctor every time! Anybody else not feeling the restriction?

Don't be nervous. Definitely stick to the food plan so your liver doesn't give your surgeon any trouble. Before I got banded, I watched a video clip of a lap band surgery on youtube. Not for the squeamish, but it's interesting. Odds are you won't remember anything about the surgery itself. The only thing I remember is moving from the gurney to the operating table. Two hours later I woke up in recovery. Your tummy won't be pretty afterwards (I have 5 incisions), but this is no time for vanity. That comes later! Good luck!

My good friend talked me into not being a hero. Work will survive if I take a couple more days to heal. I'm not 21 anymore (I'm 55)! Looking forward to mushies. Refried beans are callng my name!

Ow. No lie. Ow, ow, ow. Most of the gas has gone, but still have pain in my left side (under a rib) every time I breathe. Makes it very hard to do my breathing exercises. Doctor has me on liquid hydrocodone every 4 hours but it isn't real effective. I'm not usually such a whiner, but will be glad when the healing stage is over. Plan on returning to work on Monday. I totally love my doctor, though, and have no regrets. Have a follow-up with her in a week. My heaviest weight was 299 (approx 6 weeks ago). Weighed 285 on day of surgery. 135 lbs to go.
