a little off topic... sorry when we drink Protein drinks we are suppose to have protein isolate not protein concentrate. Is this the same for bars... are there bars with protein types that are better (more easily utilized) than others?
-
I use a whole atkins vanilla shake as cream in my coffee. I use one part coffee to one part protein and I get to feel like I'm haveing a big fat mug of java when really its about 6oz. I remember back when I did south beach there was a recepie for crustless quiche muffins. You could bake a bunch and freeze them. I've been looking for it but cant find it. While I was googling the recepie I came across people who where making quiche muffins by taking foil baking cups and spraying them with pam. I haven't tried it yet but I assume you could do this with any quiche recepie... you could even make veggie quiche and get some veggies in first thing.

I just take the chewable bariatric advantage daily. I have to suck on it real slow so as not to barf. Iron has always made this barfing problem with vitamines worse. What I'm reading though is I should add some iron and D and maybe B???

There's a big difference between lake swimming and pool swimming. If there is anything there besides scar tissue I would really fear for infection. A pool is more hygenic but I was told I couldnt even do that until incisions were completely healed. Your body is realy vulnerable right now... but it wont always be that way. be careful... but be sure to have fun stacey

Question about taking pills
stcyt replied to PamelaAM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc started me on a ppi 3 days post op. A capsul about the size of the tip of my pinki. I could do it... but I felt it going down. At about 10 days it was a breeze. Now... at almost 3 mos I can take four pills at once if I need to. As far as the ibuprophine.... its hard on the stomach lining. Its best to avoid for at leeast 8-10 weeks post op... after that some docs say you can have it some say you cant. The research however indicates its fine. Theres some other posts... I think titled NSAIDS where tiffikins posted some research links on this. good luck -
I took 2 weeks off and, for me, it was too much. I was just sitting at home obsessing about healing and getting in water and protein. It would have been better for my head if I just mixed some clear protein drinks and kept them with me at work. That being said... I have a desk job and don't have to lift anything more than a pencil. It was about 4 weeks before I had any real energy or felt like I could do something like deliver mail all day. If half days are an option that might be a good starting point. good luck

I wonder if you could go to a doc out of your area and just ask for the tests you want without giing the whole story. I'm sure youd hae to pay out of pocket... but at least youd know. Once you had results in hand you could spill the beans. A little shadey I know, but sometimes you have to go in the back door. Just an idea.... I really hope your better soon. I cant imagine being sick on top of trying to heal from VSG. Hang in there!!! Keep us posted

Difficulty swalloing at night?
stcyt replied to wannalise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW that does sound annoying? I wonder if it has something to do with reflux??? Other than that I couldnt even guess. Have you had an upper GI? Do you eat close to bed time? Well, this isn't a very helpful post, I know, but good luck. Hopefully somebody will post after me that has more to say. stacey -

I have recently noticed a lot more help from "gentelmen" too. Its weird. I didn't realize they were so nice. I almost never have to open a door anymore. I have to say I have to fight the urge to be angry at these men. Where were they 30lbs ago. I don't want to be an angry person so I just say thanks and keep walking... but was I invisible before?

I have a male friend who is 7'3'' with a BMI somewhere in the 40s. Obviously he has to shop at the big and tall store. He refers to it as the fat and freakey store (kinda hard on the self image if thats where you shop). I just got into a 12 too !!!! Congradulations... I know you must feel great

Soda's...what is the deal?
stcyt replied to Lori21769's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 3 mos out now and I've been feeling so "normal" that yesterday, while washing my car, I decided to splurge and try a diet coke. I've never been a real soda drinker... but a diet coke every once in a while is nice. Anyway... first two sips were kinda nice.... then it was just groos to me. It was the bubbles I think. I just couldn't do it. Oh well. I like other stuff now :biggrin0: -
In a few months I'm going to be looking for your post on the NSV (non scale victories)thread that says how good it feels when you fly and fit comfortably in one seat !!!!! I'm sorry it sucks right now.... but this is the last time !!!!!

To weigh or not to weigh....that is the question!
stcyt replied to SarahD.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a recovering scale addict. I only allow myself once a month... it just makes me crazy if I do it daily, or even weekly. I wish I was one of those who can think logicvally around this issue.... some days its up.... some days its down.... but I'm just not. I let that number rule my world so about 2 months ago I went cold turkey... some days I white knuckle it...force myself to stay away from the scale at the gym... I had to take the batteries out of my home scale. All in all I think I'm saner on a day to day basis without it. -
don't let the hunger scare you. I was hungrey durring clears too. And a little on mushies. Once I got fully past all the post op diet stuff and started eating real food the hunger went away. Hang in there... your almost there.

stcyt replied to mellifrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so excited for you guys... your gonna do great!!!!!! The dieting is hard now but once you have surgery everything will be easier in that arena.... no feeling empty all the time..o insatiable hunger... no blood sugar dips... Once you get over those first hurdles of gas and swelling and all the crazy leak fears (I was a little paranoid and hypocrondriacle) life will be fabulous good luck stacey -

DOWN 30.5 pounds!!!
stcyt replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
WOW... you should be so proud of yourself. I know you have worked hard. I don't think 30.5 lbs in 9 weeks is slow though... especially for a lightweight. Good job:thumbup: -
CONGTATULATIONS!!!! if you feel this good now... imagine a year from now You'll be unstopable

I was a little scared at first too... I started with oatmeal that I cooked to death.... very very mushy. Just go slow. Take a small bite and let it set. Once you get going you'll be fine. Just limit yourself to about 2 oz. I didn't measure.... but I uderstand its better to measure out 2oz to be safe. Once you get a feel for how much you can eat you can ditch the measuring. Once I got going it was heavenly to have some real sustanance. My favorite was 1/4 baked sweet potatoe, a bit of cream, and some unjury chicken soup mix (Protein powder) with a little salt. That was really satisfying. good luck

What are your slider- and non slider- foods?
stcyt replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well Jillian.... its official.... my broccoli days are over. I had some last night with my cod fillett, prepared my favorite way, and it actually made me a little ill. I guess its squash and green Beans for me now. Its okay though... I like them as much as I used to like broccoli. Cake, cupcakes don't sit well in my sleeve. However, the icing does just fine. Cheesecake sticks pretty good, and I can only eat a small portion. awe Tiff... cake was my FAVORITE food pre-op. I loved it like a little kid at a birthday party. Sometimes I would go to safeway and buy one of those single pieces for no reason... just because I loved it. I havent tried it post sleeve, but its probably just as well that it may not sit so good. I havent really tried any bread products other than crackers, but I have found that wheat thins slide right down... I dont keep them around. I'm a big fan of the Peanut Butter too Jillian. Sometimes I just don't get enough to eat... I forget.. gt busy ets.. (something that NEVER happend pre sleeve). I don't realize I need to eat till I start to get brain fog and a tablespoon of peanut butter (no sugar all natural) is a great quick fix. As people have stated.... most filling for me is a meal that consists of mostly lean meat and a little veggies. I marinate chicken breasts in freska and low sodium soy sause and have that with some asparagus or steamed spinach.... sticks like glue for hours.
