The only person to fail at this surgery
stcyt replied to Lisalu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After all we've been through in weight loss attempts its really hard to believe that something could really work. We've gotten hopeful so many times about this or that diet or supplement, that its almost scary to hope again. The fear that we'll be defeated one more time looms over all of us. As time goes on and you are able to sustain your successes, it will gradulally sink in... this time is going to work. No matter how many times you've said that before.... I promise this time its true. I just do my best to eat high Protein some good low glycemic carbs. Others cut carbs completely, others worry about calories only. Whatever works for you will work in the end. Even if you are not a perfect "dieter" you will be successful. take care stacey -
I love Yoga. I go to hot yoga near my house a couple of times a week. My class usually has a lot of those lean yoga girls in it... and then a few of us regular people sweatin it out in the back row. I was siting on my mat after class one day and glimpsed one of the yoga girls with her flat back and long lean limbs. I didn't really fully process my glimps of this yogi fully, but when I looked up, I realized that it was my reflection in the studio mirror !!!!!!!

I paid 6700 in Mexico and have no complaints. I have heard simmilar stuff to others with regard to self pay in the US... between 15 and 25. Let us know what your doc says about the inflated price? Maybe the other US self pay aren't including anestesia and appointments. Who knows.

Half way today!!!
stcyt replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Great job angie.... I know you've worked really hard. I can't believe your in an 8, Good for you. I can only imagine how great it feels to shop. I haven't been yet... I'm just trying to make due with what I have to get through the summer because I know I won't be able to wear any of it next summer (its a great problem to have). I have lots of little summer dresses and what not so I can change shape quite a bit and still fit them. Exercise is great. I have always loved to exercise. As you know, us lightweights loose slow and I'm pretty sure the exercise has been whats saved me on many a weigh day. We will be there before you know it. congradulations stacey oh... by the way... my next milestone is "normal" bmi -
I couldn't agree more about the healthy fats. If I have an avacado or sautee my veggies in a little olive oil, I am satisfied for a very long time. I used to think avoiding fats was the way to go... but the good ones really are good.

I was wiped out off and on for a good 6 weeks. I do think around the 3-4 mark it was pretty bad. I remember gong hiking with a friend thinking that I was a month out so I could do a "real" hike. I had to turn back... just couldn't do it. Now... I have all the energy in the world. I feel much better than I did pre-op. It takes our bodies a while to adjust to our new anatomy.... you'll get there.

Is there a Vitamin Guideline?
stcyt replied to friendINdeed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know, but I imagine that most of the guides are for bypass which has a malabsorption component. Thankfully the sleeve has no malabsorption so you are able to get many vitamines from food. We don't eat a whole lot though, so we need to take a little something to make sure we are getting all we need. I take centrim daily vitamins as well as calcium citrate supplements. Many people take iron, vitamin d, and B12 sublingual as well. If you get a multi make sure it has biotin and zinc to help stave off hair loss. If you go to the Bariatric Advantage website, they have vitamins by procedure. I haven't had my labs yet so I don't know if I'm low on anything, but I feel pretty good. -
Constipation after surgery
stcyt replied to Tiggergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a rough time right after surgery. I can't remember how long it took... I want to say 12-14 days. I finally had to use milk of magnesia. things like stool softners and miralax and m.o.m. don't have the same kinds of dependency issues as laxitives do... they just attract water to your bowls. For that reason, if you use them you need to drink lots of water... your already at risk of dehydration. I think I used the milk of magnesia about 3-4 times, and now that my diet is more varied I'm doing fine. I do eat a little fiber one (the hamster food kind... not the over processed kind) with some soy milk once a day. I still only go about 3x per week, but since I don't eat that much it seems to be fine. good luck -
What Size Should I/He Buy?
stcyt replied to **LaSaJaTa**'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5/7 also, and I too was going to say 6-8 depending on your body type. With dresses that are fetted through the waist I can wear smaller, but if they are fitted in the hips and butt I need larger (yup..i'm a pear). Right now I'm 163 and 8/10 on top and 12 on the bottom. I have found that when I buy things too small for "goal cloths" sometimes they don't fit exactly right when I reach that size. Not to worry though. You can always take it to the cleaners and have this or that seem taken in. And.... believe it or not.... you'll get there -
okay... this is a completely pointless question but I was just pondering.... right now I'm slightly out of proportion. My top half is a 8/10 and my bottom half is a 12. Now I know that my bottom half is always the last to loose... but eventually things even out. What if I stopped loosing weight right now (I have no intention of doing this). Do you think things would eventually even out, or would I be lopsided forever. Clearly I have too much free time

Day 0 just got ho,e from hospital !
stcyt replied to cmiranda4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sucks now, but I promise it gets better quickly. I was feeling pretty good by day 3 (not marathon running good, just walk around the block good). I hate to tell you though.... it was about 7 days before the gas was really gone. -
I noticed on my omeprizole bottle this morning that it says "may cause dizzieness"
-
Its hard right after surgery because you just want to GET THE BALL ROLLING ALREADY. Your time will come to do lost of exercise and weigh all the options when making food choices. Right now is your time to rest and heal. Walking is always good, but save the big stuff for later.
-
I think its pretty normal. Mine lasted for a couple of weeks and still comes back every once in a while. I found that walking helped, maybe it just got my mind off of it. I remember I had trouble laying flat at first because the constant churning seemed to abate when I was upright. Your docs right, keep sipping and it will pass.

Pre-Sleeve, when I was a compulsive yo yo dieter, the cycle was perpetuated alot by my need to punish myself for my indulgences. I would be on a reasonable diet for a while... then blow it a little bit. That little bit of blowing it turned into a full on WTF binge. After the binge was over I had to get on track... but a part of me needed to punish myself for the binge. I would eat nothing but almonds for 3 days or do hours and hours of cardio. Of course all that self punishment led to another binge etc etc. I was horrible to myself. Be kind to yourself.... embrace your indulgences and know that you will continue to move in the right direction. Maybe falling off the wagon and getting back on in a way that is loving to yourself is what you were meant to learn here. take care stacey

How Awsome that you see your ribs!!!!

I find the low GI thing to be true also. I am at my best when I include some complex carbs like a baked yam or lentils. No sugar...no flour (not even whole wheat,) basically I go for lots of protein and then shoot for legumes and stuff like that. If I don't get those carbs I feel horrible and end up wanting to binge on sugar and simple carbs. I limit my fruit and if I do have fruit I always have a bit of protein with it to lower the GI impact.

I know right!!!!!!! sometimes I get so frustrated because I want it to happen NOW. Your right around there too!!!!!! We'll be there before you know it.

I'm a slow looser so I exercise alot. I do a circuit workout (simmilar to curves) on my lunch break and then do cardio or swimming after work. Yesterday I was doing the circuit and the lady that owns the gym told me that I had "outgrown" the machines and its time for me to move on into strength training. She's going to start teaching me the moves next week!!

Well, as all of you that are of sound mind might have predicted.... my ticker moved!!!!! Man my head does weird stuff sometimes. I had so much anxiety the two or three days leading up to weigh day.... convinced I wasn't going to loose enough. Whew... I can put it away for another month. thanks stacey

okay... well... if you've been on the board for a while you probably know that every so often, even though my weight loss has been pretty good, I freak out and say I'm not loosing. Well. I'm freaking out again... but with a little pondering of the subject I have realized that my freak out posts probably belong here.... since they appear to be closleky tied to my cycle. 3 days before I start I feel fatter than ever and start to believe that I am a medical marvel and the sleeve will not work for me. So this time I'm onto the pattern. I've never been a 28 days kinda girl... It hits me whenever mother nature pleases... so I just wait. I've been feeling fat and unsuccessful for several days now... so I know whats comming.... but I could still use a few grounding words from my sleeve sisters. I'm almost three months out. At 2 mos I had lost 22 lbs and I weigh again on the 21st. I only weigh monthly because the scale makes me crazy. My goal has been 6 lbs per month. I tell myself If I can loose 6 lbs per month I'm doing good... If less I need to change something. If I make my 6lb goal on the 21st I will have lost 28 lbs in 3 mos. I wish I was loosing as fast as others... but I have to remember that I never could have lost this much pre sleeve. Anyway.... just a few "ata boys" would go a long way right now thanks stacey

My blood pressure was too low before surgery. I get dizzy a lot.... just a little rush when I first stand up.
