  1. Thanks Tiffykins. You have truly done your homework. I appreciate that we get to benefit from it. Stacey
  2. There's lots of different pre-opp diets out there. I guess it depends on what your doctor wants. I'm soooo thankful I didn't have to do the all liquid thing. I had a friend who had a bypass and she was on liquids for 2 weeks prior. Scary. Think of all the diets we've been on..... we can do anything for a week Stacey
  3. Pre op diet sucks. I knew this was going to be the hardest part. I'm supposed to be low carb so I'm dealing with headachs and feel like I'm about to crawl out of my skin. I have never made it past three days on a low carb. I'm on day 3 today and am told that it gets better after this. We're almost there!! Stacey
  4. A boughie is a tube like thing they incert into your stomach when stitching it up. The smaller the boughie the smaller the stomach ends up.... in theory.... It really depends a lot on the surgeon as well. If he sews loose from the boughie your stomach will be bigger. If he's a tight sewer it will be smaller. I'm not exactly sure about the unit of measurment... what it means etc. I just know that average is between 32 and 36. Tiffykins has posted some great stuff on boughies. If you search her threads you could find a comparision chart that shows different sizes.... a 32 being equal to a bick ball point pen etc. I hope that helps. Stacey
  5. I worry about beer too. I really really like it. One of the vetrans on hear was saying she can enjoy a couple of beers now. Thats encouraging Its been so hard. I have been eating and drinking everything in sight. Each meal my last. I'm actually a little relieved to be on the pre op diet now. I need the structure. I was out of control. MMMMMMMM it was good.
  6. Last night was it. Girls night out. Me and my palls with margaritas and steak fajitas. It was fun (even though I have a tiney headache today). Started pre-op diet this morning. Low carb for 1 week. I'm soooooo ready for my sleeve!

BMI only 33 but have struggled all my life

Hi sickofrollercoaster. I am also low BMI and I must say it's a very hard decision. I think we have all taken a bit of flack for our decision and there is a real predjudice that goes with wls... but people have actually accused me of having "body dysmorphic disorder" My BMI is 30.1 which is OBESE. I have been overweight my whole life and last year.... after imense agony.... I got down to a BMI of 27 from somewhere around 38. As you can see... I'm on my way back up and I'm terrified. I have decided to have surgery now... before I put all that stress on my skin and organs. I'm 44. I don't know how many more times my skin will shrink. Anyway. I just wanted you to know your not alone. You have to make the right choice for you... but low bmi's are here for you. The bad news. As far as I know, most insurance companies will only cover surgery between 35-40 with co-morbids and 40 and up with no co-morbids. You should definately persue that route 1st, but even though my insurance covers wls... I will be going to Mexico due to my low BMI. If you choose that route you want to be sure and do good research. I financed my surgery through surgeryloans.com All the best Stacey

    New here

Welcome Di I'm fairly new myself. You'll find this to be a very supportive group of people. I too was interested in the lap band first and ended up deciding on the sleeve. You just have to put the time in and trust in your decision. One thing that was really helpful was to browse the lap band boards as well as the sleeve boards and get an idea of the struggles that people were having post op with each procedure. Either way the path is full of challenges... you just have to decide which ones you can deal with. Take care Stacey
  11. VV Thanks so much for the post. As my sleeve day approaches I am reading everything I can re: what to expect.... not just physically, but emotionally as well. Your insight was very helpful. I'm glad your doing so well... you'll be running circles around the yard in not time. Take Care Stacey
  12. You guys are getting close!!!!!! It's soooooo hard to wait. Lets just do this already
  13. It's probably just jitters. I know my doc will use a variety of sizes.... depending on bmi. He oversews so it will end up a little smaller. From everything I've read the 36s seem pretty happy. I'm tall 5'7'' so I wonder if my sleeve will be naturally longer? Stacey

    Im ready for a change

WOW mjean.... you lost 120lbs in a year on your own. You are tough. If you can do that you can do anything!! Imagine combining that type of sticktoitness with the sleeve. YOULL BE ON FIRE. Your motivatin will come back like gang busters once you take off those first pounds. Best of Luck Stacey
  15. I know right!!! I just can't stop reading Take care Stacey
  16. BJean I'm with you. It really doesn't concern me but I would LOVE to know the outcome.
  17. Oh yea.... good call on the appletini
  18. I absolutly can't wait. Sometimes it doesn't even seems real. There is actually a solution!!!! I could be "normal" this time next year. Good luck on the liquids. We can do this !!!!!! Stacey
  19. TiffanyIsMajor I see your on the 20th. I'm the 21st. I guess we're sleeve buddies!! Stacey
  20. I think I'm getting rid of my scale too. I have been a slave to that thing for too long and I have been known to use the numbers to sabatoge my success. I really want a new life. Free from the scale at last. I will trust that with the sleeve and a low carb lifestyle eveything will be as it should be. It' weird, I wonder what I will obsess about take care stacey
  21. Thanks guys!! I really love this site. Who else could really understand that last margarita. It's been so great to hear from people and be heard. It really takes the edge off the whole experience. btw... tiff, I thought I read somewhere that you had a your tube video blog. How do I access that? Stacey
  22. does anyone know the stats on regaining weight after vsg surgery. I read a post somewhere where a woman was 3 years out... eating like a bird and exercising as her weight slowly climbs up. Anybody? Thanks Stacey
  23. Hi Dalisgirl, I believe that you will have the surgery when the time is right. There have been many things in my life that I've needed to get a running start at. You sound like you are comitted to having it done.... it's just a matter of when and how. The Journey is part of the cure. FYI I used surgeryloands.com to finance. take care and keep posting. Stacey
  24. Congradulations on gettng sleeved!!!!! It sounds like all in all your doing great. Your right about that 6 lbs. It's most certainly Water. I know that these things still mess with our heads... even when logically we know that its not fat, just water. Hang in there. Your body will let go soon enough. Take care Stacey
  25. Question for you vetrans out there. I am getting sleeved onthe 21st (cant wait). I am absolutly perfectly fine with never being able to eat large amounts of food again. No problem. I am a little worried about drinking though. There is nothing I love more (okay, maybe a couple of things) than going for a hard hike in the sun and guzzling cold water. I know that I can only take little sips at first, but will I be able to take a big gulp of water some day? Thanks Stacey
