  9. Well, looks like my travel buddy can't make it (family emergency). He may still pull through in the end, but as of right now it looks like I will be going it alone in TJ. Any advice from those who have been. Is there something special you would have done, or brought, or prepared for had you been traveling alone? Is anyone else going to be down there the 21-24 of April? I will be at INT hospital. :wink1: Thanks Stacey

    One month out today

I am pre op but I definately know how discouraging the scale can be. i for one am throwing mine away the morning of my surgery. I can't wait for a life free from that number. Keep up the great work. I'm following your progress and although you may be frustrated.... your success is encouraging to me. stacey
  12. Hey VV I'm sorry to hear this weeks been so rough. I'd say something profound but I don't really have anything. What your going through now is the stuff I am most afraid of. Not the surgery or the healing or the physical pain. Its the hardest thing. It does seem though, from reading others posts, that it is truly great when you come out the other side. Hopefully I'll see you there when I finally make it through. Love Yourself stacey

    50 Pounds!

50 lbs. I can't wait till I get to say that. I really want to run too. Now my knees hurt and I have to alternate / run a block / walk a block / run a block / walk a block and then I feel like I'm going to die. Maybe when the weight comes off it won't be so hard. Congradulations!!!!!!! I'm curious like phatcurves.... what do you have to tell those of us about to be sleeved Stacey

    Sleeping post op

Good question Phatcurves. I hope its not a long term problem. I have noticed that when I do atkins I cant sleep. I wonder if the lack of carbs has something to do with it. Stacey

    Mexico on my own

Well BJean, I just answered your other thread. Oh well. Hey Barbarella. What hospital will you be at? Stacey
  16. Its south of the border for me!!!! I am sooooo excited. I have a friend that had a gastric bypass and I was telling her that I was worried about the plane trip there. I can't eat the day of the surgery but I'm flying on that day so I have to travel empty. She just laughed.... she aid its so different "out here", She said she never ever worries about things like that and that she is amazed at how little she really needs to get by. I can't wait. No, Im not a revision. I'm just sick of gaining and loosing the same 75lbs. I'm on my way up after loosing 70. I just don't want to do it again. I think the sleeve will help me get where I want to be and STAY there this time. It seems to be a great tool for loosing as well as maintaining. Stacey

    Mexico on my own

I'm actually pretty okay with the idea. I think I will just be sleeping and will probably want to be left alone. I like the wannalise thought that I won't have to worry about anyone but me. Thats a good idea about the cell phone. I'll feel better if I can call people back home. They will get worried if I don't check in ant tell them how i'm doing anyway. thanks stacey

    Surgery was yesterday

Wow thanks spydersong. This is the type of stuff thats really helpful to those of us about to go under. I'm glad to hear your doing well. Keep us posted Stacey
  19. I'm 5'7''. The last time I wore a size 8 I was 130lbs. I think a healthy BMI is between 19 and 24. 25 to 29 is overweight and the obese categories start at 30. For me to weight 130 puts me at a BMI of 20. I'd be okay If I could just get in the normal range. I looked up BMI for 5'2'' and it looks like your range 104 - 131. Your doc probably cares most about getting you into the healthy zone. If you want to go less than that while staying healty you have the whole range to play with. Probably the size of your frame and you're muscle mass factor in somehow. Stacey

    nervous & excited

Yea Jack. Its exciting isn't it. Theres so many emotions that go along with this process. You only a few weeks out. I am looking forward to hearing about your progress. Stacey
  21. Okay... I've been trying so hard not to get into this discussion, but I really feel the need to point out that the problem is not that this patient had a leak. We all know that leaks are a risk of the procedure. The issue is that the leak was not identified and treated since the house keeper did not know that the gushing that occured after she removed the tube was a huge red flag. I do want to say though.... that I appreciate everyones input. Some people are faced with the choice of finding a less expensive surgeon or continuing to live with obesity. That is very real. I also believe that those that are concerned about this clinic are well inteded in their concern for others. I see no villains in the discussion.

    Does anyone

How fun!!! My travel buddy has had a family emergency. He has a family member in the hospital that may or may not make it. He is feeling like he needs to stay close to home (understandable). If his person improves he will come but I may be on my own. I'm actually okay with it. I'm a very bad patient.... typically just want to be left alone. It just gives a little piece of mind to have a friend there. Honestly.... He is a big 7'3'' guy with a huge charasmatic personality. He charms everyone everywhere he goes and I was looking forward to him endearing himself to all the doctors and nurses. Oh well. I backpacked the Colorado trail one time - 2 weeks - just me and my dog. I suppose I can do this too. You guys will have a great time... well... you will.... tiff will have a great experience... I'm just not sure if I would call it fun :wink0: Stacey

    Sleeping post op

I took ambien every night for about a year. It got to where I absolutly could not sleep without it and with it I couldn't sleep more than a few hours and then I would be wide awake. I use it now about 2X per month. I wouldn't recomend it for nightly use. I have had horrible insomnia my whole life. Is this likely to worsen after surgery? Stacey
