Acid rebound and kicking ppi's
stcyt replied to stcyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 6 :bored0:A little twinge after eating Day 7 :scared:Yikes Its back :smokin:. Not as bad as day from hell but its there:cool4:. Got some Zantac and now I'm better. From all my reading it appears that Zantac has about a 10 day rebound period while ppi's can be 2-3 mos. I'll see how things are tomorrow, but I may try to do every other day of Zantac. I will call doc tomorrow :phone2:to report the increase and get her thoughs on my Zantac plan. She really wants me off the PPI's as I am at risk for osteoporosis and ppi's inhibit the absorption of diazapam..... a medcation that I need periodically. -
Surgeon Choice: Aceves or Rodriguez?
stcyt replied to Keys Pirate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well... I have a few minutes now. I figured I'd post out here instead of PM in case anyone is interested. I absolutly loved Dr R and his team. I met with him and Dr Elmo before surgery and they were very nice and informative and listend to my concerns. Dr Rod and at least one other doc checked on me every day I was there. They did a lot to put me at ease as I was super scared. I have heard that the hopsital in Juarez is nicer than the one in TJ. Thats hard to imagine as I have never seen a cleaner, better staffed hospital in my life. All of the doctors and about 50% of nurses spoke english. The only thing I didn't know about before hand was that I needed $30 american for my meds. I only had a credit card so my coordinator paid for them and I mailed her a check later. It would have been nice to have around 20 pesos to take with me to the hotel to tip the guy that carried my luggage and to order some broth from room service. I brought a bunch of movies downloaded from Itunes on my computer and some audio books on my ipod. I was glad for that as only a few english channels were available. I have had a few follow up questions since being home and have e-mailed my coordinator. She has gotten back to me with the doctors response withing 24 hours. You can also e-mail Dr Rod directly, I just got kinda chumy with my coordinator. Honestly..... if it hadn't been for the surgery.... I would say i had fun. I had a very easy recovery but I do remember being pretty miserable those first 2 or three days. As everyone says..... sip walk sip walk repeat. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. take care Stacey __________________ -
I'm so glad to hear it. I cant wait for the day that you post that your wife loves her new body and her sleeve. I imagine she has already lost a significant amount. A new and healthy life is waiting for both of you.

Surgeon Choice: Aceves or Rodriguez?
stcyt replied to Keys Pirate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very happy with Rodriguez. I was at INT hosital and went through Joann at belight. I felt I got excellent care and my PCP here agrees. I'm at work now but I can give you more info later. -
Getting Sleeved by Dr Rodriguez on the 21st. Two nights in the hospital and then on the 23rd my buddy and I will be at the Hotel Rio del Real in Tijuana. I think a lot of drs use this hotel. Anyone else going to be there? We could have a crazy broth party.... truthfully, I think my travel partner will probably need someone elses travel partner to talk to by then, as I plan to sleep alot. Hope to see you there Stacey

What are you looking forward to?
stcyt replied to SouthernSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I want to go out with my girlfriends on the weekends and not be the "fat chic" I want to wear whatever I want I want a boyfriend....maybe I want to be un-obsessed with my next diet I can't wait great thread!!!! -
I lost 13lbs in the first 2 weeks after surgery then nada for 2 weeks. Every day I would get on the scale and every day the scale would tell me I was a failure. :biggrin0: Finally.... I got rid of my scale. I am no longer such a failure. There's no way, with as little as we eat, that if we make reasonably good choices, we wont loose weight. Even though I wish I could loose faster... stepping on the scale wont speed things up. I plan to weight once a month and am working on my sanity. Hang in there.... Stacey

Acid rebound and kicking ppi's
stcyt replied to stcyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea... I hear what you guys are saying...it concerned me too to have this much acid this early out. My doc says that I can handle a week or so of acid but if it hasn't dramatically decreased after 7 days I should consider going back on. The thing is.... I have already made it through my "fires of hell" day so I want to keep going. I'm hoping that since I have been on the ppi's a shorter period of time maybe my rebound will resolve quicker. Oregondaisy.... I know gaviscon... but do you know what other types of acid reducers don't cause rebound. Is tagament only by perscription? how is it different from gaviscon. I started drinkin Aloe Vera juice today. Its supposed to sooth the esophagus and regulate PH. So far today I had a little tinge after lunch but it went away after eating a ginger chew. -
SOS...Laryngopharyngeal Reflux...SOS

Sorry to hear about your struggle.... have you tried drinking aloe vera juice (injestable type only) ? It sooths the esophagus and is supposed to restore normal PH in your stomach. -

Why.... what was the purpose of the messages -
Well I really hope you can make it. I had a pretty easy recovery but I was still pretty weak and sore on day 3. You figure though.... a lot of us that go to Mexico fly home on day 3 or 4. If you have somebody drive you there and it's not too long it could be doable. good luck

I'm scared to tell anyone I'm doing this
stcyt replied to cactusmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey rollermom I saw your june 5 date... congrats!!!! I wasn't going to tell anyone at first. I just didn't want anyone to know. I have still not told my family.... I just don't need the lectures.... but I did end up telling some of my close friends. It was nice having some people around to check on me and for me to talk about my experience to. Depending on how often you see your BF it may be kinda difficult to explain why you can only have Clear liquids or mushies. Also.... we make some kinda weird noises after.... stomach gurgling etc. Congrats again Keep us posted -
Hey Champ Just checking in.... are you guys home???? Hows she doing????

Dreaming about Protein?
stcyt replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I go through the same thing. Failure is ingrained in us professional dieters. You know I had that horrible stall.... I kept wondering if I was going to be some kind of medical marvel.... the only person in history who can fail with a sleeve. I can tell the stall is broken by the way my clothes are fitting..... but I'm not going to weigh cuz it makes me crazy. Your doing great.... try not to be so hard on yourself. I know your just post op so its important to follow the rules... but once your all healed, the sleeve is all about normal living and moderation. That includes good days and bad and forgiving ourselves. Take care Stacey -
I would consider beef broth a clear. Also....Pre-op I NEVER drank fruit juice. All that sugar and those carbs !!! Yikes. Post op I felt horrible on clears so added some organic apple juice and organic blueberry juice. The carbs and sugar (no sugar added but the fruit has natural sugar) really helped me feel better. I cut them out again as soon as I was on full liquids.
