First post with a Thank You!
stcyt replied to NC Redneck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey NC Redneck I just found this thread... sorry or I would have responded sooner. I don't know who you finally settled on but if it's doctor rod you won't be sorry. I was sleeved by him and his team and they were great. I got excellent care. Let me know if you have specific questions... I'm happy to answer. Congrats on the date Stacey -
Acid rebound and kicking ppi's
stcyt replied to stcyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow oregondaisy.... good to see your post. I am told that once my esophagus heals and we start the weaning process... we will be using tagament or some other H2 blocker to help with the process. -
*sigh* I may have figured out my nausea/wobbly issues
stcyt replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, it sounds like you know the root cause and your meeting it head on. I was going to ask why you thought the onset was right after surgery, but you addressed that.... Of course you were feeling a bit fragile right after surgery, but your coping mechanism (eating) was gone. I'm sure you've tried this stuff, but this may be a great time to introduce some new coping strategies like hot baths, music that you love, writing, throwing pottery, graffiti.... whatever. The more completely you can get absorbed into something, the better. You have the right attitude.... you identified the issue and you have a plan for its management. You probably know this but exerise absolutly helps manage some of the neurotransmitters associated with anxiety. Hang in there thanks for sharing Stacey -
& Women say cramps are so bad
stcyt replied to M_Bigga_M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a few mishaps at first. Didn't get to the vomiting stage but wanted to. I found that if I went and walked around the block it got better... also burping helps. I'm pretty good about knowing when to stop now. Overeating now has some very quick and harsh punishers built in and I avoid it at all costs... it took me a while to figure out when to stop though. I'm used to packing it in. -
Great news Swiftflow. I love that escilator thing. It is a killer. I think it does me better than anything else they have at the gym. I'm still not weighing but I've got my fingers crossed for when I weigh on the 21st (my sleeveaversary)

Oatmeal and fiber question
stcyt replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My instructions were soft diet till 6 weeks and then slowly start to introduce whatever foods I wanted. Broccoli was the first veggie I tried. It didn't cause any issues but I was only able to eat about 2 bites and it just didn't taste the same. Its a vegetable with a lot of volume. I may need to wait a little while longer. Stacey -

Oatmeal and fiber question
stcyt replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loved vegies before surgery... especially broccoli. Now, not so much. I have to make myself eat them. I think I need to back up and try some softer vegies like peas or squash. -
Thanks so much for your encouragement guys. I don't have a nut but I go to the doc in 1mo. I can ask then if things are still bad. Really, I think I was just feeling sorry for myself..... soon after posting I realized that it was bloating and PMS...... dang it gets me every time. My Protein is high and I am exercsing daily... Most days I am really happy with my sleeve. Slow weight loss is better than no weight loss!!! Thanks guys Stacey

I use a curves gym on my lunch break from work. These are my thoughts Pros: Its efficient and works every muscle in your body in minimal time Its not a very intense work out so I can go back to work after Its All women Cons: At least at my gym... everyone wants to talk and its more social than working out. The music makes me crazy Most curves arent open on sundays If I want a "real" workout I go to my other gym.... It's just not that intense, but Its a good way to move my muscles durring the work day.

Quick question on PPI after surgery
stcyt replied to texaschick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could take small pills at day 3 also. I felt it going down... but I could get it. I think some that have had more swelling have broken broken open the capsul or crushed the pill and taken it in a liquid form. -
Thanks for being our guinea pig swiftflow....its all good info. It looks like stalls just may be part of the package.

Oatmeal and fiber question
stcyt replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
by the way jillian... I'm curious about your weight loss. I was low bmi also... not as low as you but still low. Anyway... I hit a stall at about 10 days out and when it had lasted 2 weeks I quit weighing myself because I was going absolutly crazy. I can tell I've started loosing again but its real real slow. My cloths are looser... but not like massively. Anyway..... I'll be curious to watch your progress. are you weighing? are you watching carbs or just eating healthy and letting the sleeve do its work? stacey -
Oatmeal and fiber question
stcyt replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started oatmeal at day 10. five days clear.... five days full... then I started oatmeal on my first day of mushies. mmmmmm it really hit the spot and make me feel satisfied and nourished like I hadnt felt in days. I get unprocessed oats... the kind that take 5 mins to cook because they are less processed. I cooked them for about 10 minutes in extra water so they were really mushy. mmmmmmm enjoy!!!!!! -
Acid rebound and kicking ppi's
stcyt replied to stcyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well... I'm back on the PPI's for now. Yesterday.... I believe it was day 9.... i developed an aching sore throat. My doc had told me I could keep trying to kick the ppi's but as soon as my throat got sore I had to go back on. Now she says I have to stay on for about 3 mos before we can try again.... but next time she wants to try a weaning process. -
Could this be a new wierd side effect?
stcyt replied to Lillie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm alot colder than I used to be. I attribute it to my body being low on fuel. I haven't been hot yet....mybe your body just doesn't want to expend the energy to regulate your temperature -
I don't count carbs. I try to get all my protein from food sources and eat fruits and veggies. I'll eat some lentil or split pea soup... really complex carb stuff like that. Every now an then... just for fun, I will lay and bed and think "how many carbs did I really eat today" and when I add it up the amount is pretty small. Its just not physically possible to eat a lot of carbs and still get my protein. Now... if I was getting my protein from liquid shakes and drinks I could probably fit in a lot more carbs.... but thats one more reason to get protein from food (once your able)

I have wondered the same thing. I drink soy milk because I always have and I like the taste.... but when you do a comparison of nutrition facts its hard to figure. I always get the unsweetned unflavored kind. I imagine that soy would be better for those with lactose problems. Also... I wonder about the difference between milk protein and soy protein. I'll be curious to see what others post.

Surgeon Choice: Aceves or Rodriguez?
stcyt replied to Keys Pirate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll love Dr Rod and his team.... they are awsome. I just had a regular sleeve with a 38 bougie (per my request).... he usually uses a 32. I don't really know what the super sleeve is, but I am very happy with my "regular sleeve" -

I would absolutly stay on them if your doctor wants you to. I hope... that when doctors give the go ahead... this thread will help people know what to expect. take care stacey -
Becoming frustrated with nutritional balance
stcyt replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Well Angie... you know my stall story. I'm so much happier since I ditched the scale. Don't make yourself crazy!!!!! Just be sure to get in your Protein. If you feel like I felt there was absolutly no way I could eat more than 800 calories in a day even if I started eating when the sun came up and didn't quit till bed time. Once your on solid foods it will be easier to tweak your diet. Dense protein really fills you up. I don't think there was anything I did that broke my stall (I can tell its broken because of how my cloths fit). I just had to wait till my body was done freaking out. I'm sorry your going through it though because I know it is sheer hell. And its true what they say... if you have less to lose you will lose slower. tip: the way I was able to ditch the scale was I got some Ketone strips. The reason i was an obsessive scale whore was because I constantly had to check to see if what I was doing was "working". I check my ketone level every morning and every morning my ketone strip turns pink. As long as thats the case I know I'm burning fat, thats all I need to know... no matter what the scale says (at this point the scale is just giving us info about the weird things our body is doing with Water to try to combat its new circumstances). Those little strips have been really helpful in my letting go of scale whoredome. Its never happened yet... but the day my strip doesnt turn just a little pink... I'll lower my carbs. (I guess now I'm a ketone stip whore) Take care.. your doing great Stacey -
I put some audiobooks on my ipod..... I loved just looking out the window and being "read" to.

Has anyone gotten the ?Super Sleevectomy? (TGVP) with Dr. Jose Rodriguez?
stcyt replied to mellifrits's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Hi guys.... my ears were burning I left an accounting of my experience with Dr rod on the Aceves vs Rodriguez thread. I didin't get the "super sleeve" though. I did have a "special request" for a little larger bougie due to low bmi and he was happy to oblige. He usually does a 32 but he did a 38 for me. Probably no real difference but it made me feel better. The sleeve is great.... I know its scary to think about cutting out part of your stomach. I had vivid nightmares about my stomach being ripped out of me after I made my decision. Its the best thing I have ever done for myself. I would trust my life to dr rod.... oh wait.... I did. P.S. I hear the Juarez Hospital is nicer than TJ... hard for me to imagine, but thats the word on the street. I'll try to answer any questions as you approach your date. Take care Stacey
