I think I know who you were referring to earlier and I found that person to be just as nasty as Sandy. Like Sandy she made statements that were not backed up by any data so I never took her seriously. Unless she was quoting Jessie Ahroni which is where her saying "just because you can doesn't mean you should" actually came from.

Congrats and great job to you too! I didn't realize that either! I look at your pics and you look so much thinner than me but we are both the same size I think (12). It's so nice to buy stuff in the regular departments. Just in time for Vera Wang's new line at Kohls!

I think you miss my point here. This isn't a post about protein shakes. It's a post about someone not getting hammered because they are a part of a particular group. Had a newbie come on that board and admitted to regaining some of her weight and mentioned drinking a protein shake every morning people would have been all over her with comments about it. But this wasn't a newbie therefore it appeared, to me at least, as though she was protected from ridicule because of her alliance.

I have a question that is somewhat related. When your friend Caeli returned to OH and started posting again one of her first posts stated that she needed to get back on track and needed to start drinking her shake every morning. No one challenged her on that statement. When others who were beyond the initial liquid phase talked about protein shakes being part of their daily nutrition typically they faced a bunch of flack about it from what I would term "member of the clique" but when Caeli said she needs to drink a shake every morning there was no debate about it. No big blow harding from Ron or anyone else. What's up with that? Can you honestly say that if the same post was made by Wendell there would be no condemnation of the shake?

Ditto here, I had to mix my V8 with warm chicken broth. It was actually pretty good that way.

Just because someone asks about something on a forum does not mean that their doc didn't provide that info to them. I would bet alot of them were even provided with it in writing. If those people asked their docs the same questions a few times their docs would see what points need to be hammered home a little harder, and that would improve care for everybody. I also think there are a lot of people who know full well what they should and should not be doing/eating but want to find out what's the worst that can happen if they do those things anyway. Those people probaby should have gone to Jenny Craig. It would have been a lot safer for them.

Awe come on, I know you really care....

I would hope so too, but a lot don't, in part because there are pseudo experts like Sandy all to ready give out crap advice. I was and am very fortunate because my doc answers all of my emails straight away. In fact he called me twice during the week after my surgery to make sure that I was doing ok and to see if I had any problems or questions. I also have a NUT that I can email. I think a lot of questions are asked on forums that should be answered by the persons doc or NUT. I think new band patients should be encouraged to ask their doc all of this stuff. If patients raise the bar a little in terms of info they request from their docs it makes them better for the future patients too. When someone like Sandy takes the place of their doc and gives out info like "blended up meatloaf is a liquid" it crosses the line between support and providing bad nutrition/medical info. I saw so many people dissing Wendell on OH for "the sake of the newbies". Well it turns out there is someone on OH that the newbies should be advised about and it's not Wendell. Where are all those "newbie protectors" now?

Yes, there is another thread on R&R that deals with Sandy's unethical behavior as well. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f80/why-do-i-do-myself-42361/ I don't think anyone in any of these discussions would want someone to receive bad information from an unqualified person.
-
I think they are being sincere. It may not have started out that way, and that may not have been the intent when they first came here but I get the impression that they like LBT, do not disagree with the obvious stuff about Sandy, and just want to move forward and enjoy both forums. I would like to see it made clear on OH that Sandy isn't a nurse or authority or anybody that should be giving out medical advice, but I think that may be a little much to hope for.

I have friends that have had bypass and are doing great at 5 years out. I think in the case of one of them it saved her life (actually both of them) and gave her back her 30's. She can eat sugar now but not to the degree that she once could. If it saves somebody and helps them to live a normal life I think it's a good thing. True they many not change all of their negative habits, but how many of us have changed all of ours?
-
It truly is. I think one of the problems with OH was that everytime there was a heated disagreement someone would have the mods remove posts or the entire thread. All that does is leave things up in the air without any resolution.
-
I think in the case of super morbidly obese people who eat a large amount of sweets and fat it may be a better choice. The doc can decide the amount of small intestines to bypass based on the patients degree of obesity so optimal loss can be achieved. I think there is no one size fits all surgery and if you are the type that can't stop eating sweets without the dumping thing or if you are the type that cannot stop until you cause yourself to have a slip maybe it's good that there are other options out there. I think it's an individual decision that people need to make with their doctor. Look how hard you have worked to get where you are. If someone is not willing to go down to 600 calories a day and workout for >1hr a day should we just let them stay obese and not offer them another option? Some would disagree with what you have had to do to acheive your goals with the band. But I know that you would tell them what to take a pea sized bite out of

I get mine in 3 packs at Costco. Ditto on the continency. Hopefully we have decades to go before that one.....

I can appreciate this answer. We have all been in positions where we have been wrong about people, and have become painfully aware of it. The fact that this post is what it is and does not try and dispute anything says a lot. At least for me.

This thread is so well written and entertaining. I just turned 50. I never dreamed that having a pair of reading glasses in every room of the house would be this important to me.

Of course we care. That's great news! Congrats!!!:clap2:

I have not been on this (or the first Jan 07) thread in a long time. It's nice to be back and see everyone doing so well. I wonder if we can move the list with all of our surgery dates over here. I remember when it was first started. Look how far we have come! :clap2:

I think maybe what WASa is looking for here is a simple acknowledgement that this is unacceptable behavior. It does not make it anymore acceptable because it happened to someone that you have a negative history with. A lie is a lie. When someone represents themselves as a person with expertise in a field and continues to lie, those that know about it should not continue to promote that person as an authority. This goes beyond Wendell. She altered the text of an abstract that was published in a peer reviewed journal to make her point and posted it on OH. She made claims that RNY causes colon cancer and posted it on OH. By doing those 2 things totally unrelated to Wendell while posing as a nurse if she caused even one person to choose a surgery that was not the best option for them she committed a huge wrong. Right now on OH there is person soliciting her advice because she has an unexpected increase in restriction and had trouble drinking. As far as I know I was the only one who suggested she call her doc. That person does not need the advice of a liar, she needs to contact her physician and make sure everything is ok. I think it would be nice if some of the folks that created this situation on OH by promoting her in the past did the right thing by now by admitting the truth.

But you have those way cool cookies that you bite the corners off of and suck coffee/tea into. I think they are called tim tams. My boss is from Perth and she gave me some for Christmas last year. For the mini pizzas I would go to costco and get a huge box of BagelBites. Kid love them. But I'm not much of a cook either.

Unfortunately she still has a lot of folks on OH bamboozled LAP-BAND® System Forum
