  1. Melissa- I can empathize with what you are going through... My surgery was also delayed due to cardiac issues. I had an abnormal stress test so I had to get a nuclear stress test (which thankfully was fine)... the delay was about two weeks. In hindsight (my surgery is tomorrow) I kind of appreciate the two weeks extra I had to prepare. As far as having a surgery date- when the surgeon submits the paperwork he/she sometimes puts a date on there but it really is a "dummy" date- just to get things along. I think that's weird they set a real date before approval. Are you doing a preop diet? Which surgeon are you using? (Im in Jersey too)
  2. OK I am scheduled for surgery in less than 48 hours and FINALLY the nerves are kicking in. The horrible thing that I am most terrified about is being high on anesthesia laid out naked on the surgical bed (hmm body issues LOL). I am absolutely mortified at the thought of being naked in a room of people. Did anyone else feel this way? I worked at the hospital until last August and am also afraid someone I know will see me that way (like a resident or transporter).... Of course there are a hundred other concerns bouncing around my brain... And I forgot to ask my doc if I could take Xanax today or tomorrow... UGHHH I hope I don't chicken out!

Good Luck to all of my fellow late April bandsters!! I am terrified but reading posts on here all day is making me feel better. On a different note anyone here from Rubie (the one with the bloodclot?)

    Finally Nervous.. 2nd thoughts

Thanks for the feedback... I am feeling better about the naked thing but just need my surgeon to assure me that there will be no residents in my surgery since I really can't come to terms with someone I know seeing me. I realized I will be draped as much as possible but my boobies will be flopping about ughh..

    Who did you tell ?

I told people at work first- two other folks had it done that I work with so it's not really a big deal. Other than that I told my mom and sister (much later in the process) and my son (he's seven doesn't really understand). Oh and I also told my neighbor (she and her hubby both were banded).. .. I don't feel like my friends and family need to know since they will watch over my every bite. If my any of my friends who struggle with weight I will probably be honest with them (especially if it works!!)
  6. I would follow up with a letter. Most docs need something in writing saying that you will allow them to release info to the new doc. Something like: To Dr. Jones- Please release my (notes, test results, labs etc) to Dr. Smith at (address, fax, phone). I will be seeing this doctor on (date) and would need for them to have the information by that time. Then call them a day or two before the date you stated and if they haven't mailed the records have them fax them... Hope that helps. Tara

    Death is imminent

Brittany- For starters you should get your thyroid medication adjusted if it is not working as it should. This will help with weight loss. I understand the helpless feeling of being overweight... but I also understand that the band is just a tool and to truly be successful we need to change ourselves and our outlooks and attitudes. Although an annoyance, most of us have had to go through a psych screen to get our bands. With the negative thinking you are exhibiting you may have trouble with that... forgive me for sounding cruel. Why not start the process--- Your insurance should cover a nutritionist and some sort of supervised weight loss. My old insurance didn't cover surgeries but it did cover all the other stuff. When I went for my first appointment with my surgeon I was able to hand him my six months, nutrition consult and psych consult (all done on old insurance) which made the process much quicker... You have no idea what life has around the corner so take whatever steps you can toward your goals.

MamaSugar- Have you checked out the post on the April 2010 group about non scale victories? Maybe you are losing inches now??

Kelly- My doc doesn't require one either. I was going to do it anyway after reading everyone's post but instead have been slowly cutting back on my intake. I have been doing a liquid Breakfast the past few days just for the challenge of it. Maybe after my preop visit tomorrow I will have a diet for the rest of the time (my surgery is Tuesday)... anyhoo there are a few of us out there with no preop diets.

Rebecca I go the day before you... It still seems unreal to me so the nerves haven't kicked in.

Rubie- I am so sorry to hear about your blood clot. Thankfully it was discovered and you are being treated BEFORE any serious complications happened! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers..

Cool to know someone going the same day as me! I can't wait to hear your success stories either. I hear the headaches go away when your body adjusts to its new eating style... hope that comes soon for you.

I love reading all of your stories! I can identify with so much of what everyone is saying.. the food pushers at work, the fear that they will find cancer or something when they open me up... I am jealous of you who have gotten it over with, but so grateful for your tips and insight from the "other side"... My doc doesn't require a preop diet but after reading your posts I think I may just do one anyway. My date is the 27th so that will give me just under two weeks.

    April 2010

Great to read all of your stories and concerns thus far! I am being banded on the 27th- I was supposed to be banded tomorrow but life got in the way. I was wondering for those of you who have gotten the surgery- how soon did you go back to work? Did it match what your doctors said?
