how many days a week do YOU workout?
reverie replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Six. Sunday is my rest/stretch day. I do P90 and I plan to do the whole series (P90, P90M, P90X, maybe P90X+) I started doing it about 50+ days ago at 195lbs, I'm down to 172lbs, and down from a size 20 to a size 12. You can lose without exercising, but it is usually slower. But, I like the toning and how I feel after doing it, so it's definitely something I'm glad I got into. -
I think the more protein, the better. My nutritionist/surgeon said to try to get 70g a day, I'm usually getting 100g+

How long ago were you banded? I doubt you did serious damage but with the food you're eating your stomach has to contract more to digest it, which could throw off the healing of your band. Maybe call your doctor and ask if solids are okay, or ask if you can do mushies and then one meal of solids? I couldn't imagine eating steak when I was eating mushies. In any case you're probably fine. -
Need a pick me up...

Almost down 75lbs from May! Hoping to be really near my goal around the end of January. Don't let yourself get down. We all lose at different paces and people who have more to lose will often lose quicker, but in the end we're all working towards a goal. Keep your head up and you'll get there. -
Tofu, beans, soy, peanut butter, nuts, hemp seed, cottage cheese, lentils, tempeh, veggie burgers, whole grains, etc. Lean meats (chicken/fish) are healthy. I stay away from beef as much as possible; never was a fan but I eat it once in awhile.

Anyone interested in a Christmas challenge?
reverie replied to lauragshsu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm in the same boat! Only have about 15 or so left to lose and I should definitely hit that before Christmas. I'm not sure if I want to change my goal or not; I probably won't. Plus it always feels great to surpass it! -

Newbie here...wondering is it really worth it?
reverie replied to dreamangel1974's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of the weight-loss surgeries rely on you to make the behavioral changes; all of them. You can't have WLS and eat cake and ice cream each day and expect to lose. You have to eventually realize that the diet you have now is obviously unhealthy and is causing you to gain weight. You'll also have to realize that maybe the lifestyle you live is contributing as well. But, in the end, like Elfie said, it depends on why you're overweight. Do you eat all day? Do you eat a lot of junk food? Do you not eat 3 meals a day and then when you do eat, you overeat? The band can help with all of this, but you have to make the choice to allow the band to help you, and that means eating right and exercising. Coping with the changes has been fine for me. I stay away from Pasta and rice, I count my carbs, and I eat sensibly and I exercise each day. It's not too hard, and for me really not too drastic. I enjoy eating how I eat now, as well as exercising. In any case, losing weight is going to take your effort as well. You have to make changes in order to see changes. Good luck in whatever you choose; I definitely love being banded, but you should talk to a psych. to really see if this is what's best for you. -
You could use online tools; not as handy but they're widely available. Most of the calorie counting websites also include protein amounts.

Aww! I don't have much advice but I hope things get better. If you're into writing you can maybe look up a freelance job online? I made about 10k last year writing website content and such. Just a suggestion. Keep your head up and hey, maybe a tan wouldn't be so bad. -

Would you do it again??? (have the surgery...)
reverie replied to KikstersRT's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Definitely! I've had no complications whatsoever; no regrets; nothing. -
I'm not sure if you can just go to a random doctor to get a fill but my dr is Dr. Singh, he's near St. Agnes hospital as well as in Columbia. You could try Dr. Averbach as well. Maybe look in the MD board here for some names.

I weigh all of my food and then use fitday.com or myfitnesspal.com which then gives me my calories, protein levels, fat levels, carb count, etc. for each meal. I never thought I'd be one to do it but I've done it since day one and it doesn't take very long. It helps to keep me on track, especially when it comes to my calories and carbs.

That's awesome! I'm sure getting rid of the last 20 is a stretch; I'll be there soon!

Teenager on the rode to surgery

I say definitely look around for another doctor! If you've tried dieting and exercise and it's not helping you, hopefully the band can. Your doctor seems like a fool, especially when you're taking steps towards a healthier life for yourself. I'm 19 and was banded this year; I'd have gotten it done earlier but I choose to wait until after school was done. I definitely don't regret it and it's helped me a lot. Find another doctor that will band you. -
Welcome!! You'll definitely find lots of answers/support here whenever you need it.
-
Congrats on deciding to get banded. Sorry to hear that you don't have much support at home. You can always come here because we definitely all support you and can help throughout your entire journey. Fingers crossed that your insurance approves quickly; I've heard it can be a tough few days waiting to hear the news! If you have any questions/need to talk, feel free to message me.

Yay congrats!! Good luck maintaining.

How to get away from the scale?
reverie replied to ICUnurserachel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went through the phase of getting on the scale each day, multiple times, and I realized how badly it messed with my head. Even if the number was up .2, even .1, i would freak out. Then I realized how ridiculous I was being and how the scale was negatively impacting my journey. So, as of now, I'm on the scale every Sunday morning, and that is it. You have to realize that so many things can make your weight go up and down, and it's really not worth it to get on it everyday and get yourself down if it shows a number you don't want to see. As long as you are eating right and seeing results elsewhere, you should be extremely happy. I put my scale in the closet; out of sight, out of mind, so there is no temptation to step on it. -
Well..first welcome to the boards. Congrats on having your band for 5 years, that's awesome! How much have you lost?
