Why? Another weight-loss gimmick.

I HATE being on another DIET!
reverie replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walking is good! Any type of movement is exercise. The key is to just move more. Simple really. Doesn't require a gym membership or a heavy duty workout machine. Do stuff you find fun. Dance around; it's movement I could eat all of that too. I eat a lot more than most bandsters. In any case I think you have the wrong idea of how the band works. Read this link http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html It should help you out. -
HOW MUCH IN ONE MEAL
reverie replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What the? You're going to get all the nutrients you need from 3 bites of food? :S Oh my. OP. A cup of food is usually prescribed but the band will not keep you from eating. -

Head hungry, Not ACTUALLY Hungry
reverie replied to CurlyDiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try to keep myself busy. Do something you like to do; be active. Watching tv and sitting around makes me want to eat. Do some stuff around your house; anything! -
Frustrated with Band Results
reverie replied to Pattypwk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problem Was just merely pointing out the fact that breakfast has nothing to do with one's metabolism. I never said it wasn't important but there is no set time to eat breakfast. That's all -
Start tracking your calories closer and exercise. Maybe go in for a very small fill.

Then start tracking your calories, eat food you like, and go from there. Calories in vs. calories out. Everyone has a "diet," it's how you perceive said diet that makes it become such a negative thing for you. -
Never seen it. Why can't you do no sugar/half the fat ice cream? Plenty of that around. Breyers has vanilla @ 90 calories per serving.

I'd say a day..if that. Depends on how strenuous your exercise is. I workout for 2 hours a day (weights + cardio); my rest day is Sunday.

Frustrated with Band Results
reverie replied to Pattypwk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start logging your food. Exercise if you are not. We tend to eat more and move less than we imagine. There is no problem with potatoes and ice cream, in moderation. If you're overindulging in them then that's another story. If you don't have a digital food scale, definitely invest in one. The true serving size of 1/2 cup of ice cream will probably shock you. Also, no need to eat breakfast if you don't care to. It has no effect on your metabolism. -
Plateau!!! GRRRRR!!!
reverie replied to beautiful_sadeyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're seriously doing all of those exercises within one day, you're undereating, which is probably why you aren't losing. I workout for an hour a day, sometimes 2 hours and I'm losing weight eating 1750-1800 calories a day. Try eating more, honestly. -
Plateau!!! GRRRRR!!!
reverie replied to beautiful_sadeyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Track your calories more closely. Weight-loss happens when you're eating less than you burn on a daily basis. There's no trick or tips to losing really. In any case, plateaus are common and should be expected. Weight-loss isn't linear nor constant, nor should you be comparing your amount of weight loss to anyone else. We're all different and no two bodies are going to lose at the same rate. It just doesn't happen. -
Two things about weighing yourself
reverie replied to nurse535's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to weigh daily but stopped because I was freaking out/obsessing over the number, but that was before I realized and understood that fluctuations are to be expected. In fact, some people can see a 10lb fluctuation in ONE day. Your hormone levels, the amount of food in your GI tract, sodium, Water, muscle water retention..and so many other things all play a role in the number the scale spits out at you. I started weighing weekly but have gone back to daily weigh-ins as I am looking to lose the last 5-10 and then I have plans to gain some mass, so daily weighing will be optimal for me. If anything, my suggestion is to use the scale, use measurements, and use your clothing as judging points. If you're dropping clothing sizes, you're losing fat and doing what you should be doing -
Anyone eating 2800 - 3200 calories while banded????
reverie replied to Noah's Mommie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I eat 2300 some days..but that's due to working out. 3200 seems like way too much for anyone trying to lose weight, even though you do weigh 315lbs. But..I guess if it works then no one can say it's too much. -
I was 19 when I was banded and surgery was a breeze - my journey has been flawless but I definitely understand why you're worried/anxious. It's all part of the process! You'll do great if your head is in the game.

5 day pouch test? Is it a fad...
reverie replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you looking to gain from it? A drop on the scale? If so, I'm sure it works, but you're losing water weight and nothing more. Be better off closely tracking your calories, IMO. -
How much do you eat in one sitting?
reverie replied to BaileyRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 1/2 sounds about right; I sometimes eat more than that. 1/4 cup is generally for those people with extremely tight bands. -
Cliff, you're at your goal weight? Amazing!!! Congrats! Maybe I'm late to notice but woo hoo!

P90X has nothing to do with the amount of protein I take in. Do some reading and learn about the benefits of protein. I keep mine on the high side for various reasons. The more protein you eat, the fuller you generally are. Higher protein diets also preserve lean body mass, aka your muscle mass, something that most weight-loss patients lose very quickly, which overall leads to a slowed metabolism and screwed up thyroid, leptin, and other hormone levels, but let's not go there. From day 1 I got no less than 90g+ of protein per day. That's what works for me; stick to your 20-25g of protein per meal if it works for you. I eat 2-3 meals per day so that wouldn't work for me, simple. I wasn't out to prove anyone wrong, except that false notion that your body can only take in so much protein at once; that is completely untrue, but to each their own. And yep, protein fits in with my poptarts, ice cream, reese's, etc. Calories in vs calories out, love.

Up your protein and fats, if possible.

So disappointed in myself
reverie replied to capawana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't say I feel like I threw in the towel but I do have days where I ask myself why I even got banded. I don't regret it one bit but if I knew all I knew now..would I have ever gotten banded? Definitely not. Especially seeing as how I did it all without a fill. I don't have this so called 'restriction' and I never went after it. I just got my head and the game and pushed and pushed; could I have done it without a silicone ring? Dunno. -
Doesn't negate your statement that the body can only process a certain amount of Protein at once Debora I eat a lot of lean protein, fish, chicken, turkey etc. cheese has a lot of protein as do foods like fat free ricotta, fat free cream cheese, greek/fage yogurt, etc. I generally eat no less than 130g of protein per day.

Lap Band and low carb dieting
reverie replied to kristallynn13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why wouldn't it work with the band? I did low carb for the first 7-8 months, lost flawlessly but now I eat carbs.
