NSV ~ No longer a PLUS size!!!
reverie replied to carolann0117's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay congrats!! -
Congrats! Onederland is a great feeling.

You'll have to eat at your maintenance calories, no other way really.

Yay! Can't believe a year is coming up! I've done great; 120lbs was my goal but I'm reassessing that right now as I've lost 112lbs. I'm in loose size 4s, so it seems I'm down to the stage where I'm losing inches not pounds; either way I'm content for the most part! I've never felt better in my life. Hope everyone else is doing great.

FAA - giving up sugar, flour, and wheat truly realistic?
reverie replied to skinny31's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Heard of it, guess it makes sense, not sure how you can get all of your natural macro/micronutrient needs but I guess if it works for some why not. ElfiePoo has a similar diet; I think she has cut out all wheat/high carb products along with sweeteners. I believe she's been doing well with it. May want to wait for her response. -
You won't gain eating 1,200 calories..especially if you're working out. Eating more calories doesn't mean you need to engorge in a whole new meal. Snack on almonds throughout the day. 24 almonds is 160-170 calories. Eat a cheese stick; something. A fill won't make you lose weight. Also if you aren't tracking your calories, start tracking them now as you may be overeating as well. It's hard to mentally calculate those numbers. Good luck.

Doc sais no fill if loosing weight...
reverie replied to KOKIE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL. Depends on how OP takes such advice. There really is nothing wrong with eating what you want, but this early on in the journey I'd definitely say it's important to be a bit more strict with certain food choices. However, once you get closer to goal or at goal, I see nothing wrong with getting a little lax, especially if the food you eat fits within your calorie range. Did I ever think I'd be eating Cinnamon crunch, Reeses, or White chocolate Peanut Butter? Nope! But it fits within my caloric/nutritional needs, so why not. OP I'd say try to go back and get a fill. Life with the band should not be about dieting or having to deal with endless hunger. Maybe find another doctor if he refuses. You/your insurance paid for the band with intentions of it being filled to a level of restriction that works for you. I'd gladly move on if my surgeon ever denied me a fill, especially if I was complaining of hunger. But at least you are losing and not gaining. -
Ab Workout Impossible?
reverie replied to Myzz_Courtney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This. I do a lot of ab work and have never had an issue. -
Muscle Milk, Syntha 6, Myoplex, and Labrada RTD are good. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe/Vitamin World near you you can often buy singles of ready-made protein shakes to try before you waste money on a big amount.

If the band doesn't control head hunger, why then do diet pills work?
reverie replied to Rainydayz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diet pills, such as phentermine, mess with the neurotransmitters (catecholamines) in your brain that control hunger as well as the hypothalamus. Diet pills work, but not forever, as you do build tolerance to them. http://www.phentermine.org/how-does-phentermine-work.php Good read. Simply the band doesn't control and/or alter the parts of the body responsible for hunger and it isn't the answer for head hunger; truly only you can do that. -
Maybe try eating more. 1000 calories with exercise is generally not enough. Your body needs 600-700+ calories just to function. Do the math Otherwise, know that fills don't guarantee weight loss, so resorting to one shouldn't be your first option. Look at what your eating and tweak some things.

25g of fiber a day helps. May want to try psyllum husks as well.

For those of you who are 3, 6, 9, 12 months out
reverie replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat 6 times a day. I never ate very little as I don't believe eating 1/2 cup of food at one sitting is any type of healthy. Normally I eat a cup per meal with 3 small snacks; always 4oz+ of dense protein, vegetables, and some sort of healthy carb. -
Looking for support...
reverie replied to miss_seeann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to go see your surgeon, have the placement of your band checked, and probably get an unfill, especially if you've resorted to slider foods, such as chips. If your band is too tight then of course you're not going to be able to eat normally.. -
Hiding the Lap Band from friends at meals
reverie replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell them you're eating healthier? You don't have to come outright and say you had WLS. Say you're watching your portions. -
Stretch marks and Extra skin
reverie replied to Hairmaven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stretch marks and excess skin are usually there to stay. You can try building up muscle underneath the skin to re-fill some of it out otherwise surgery or dealing with it are the only options. -
Nope! If it isn't broken why fix it, right? Despite what many think/say you don't need a fill to lose weight. I have not had a fill and have lost 112lbs so far with no need of a fill in sight. For some of us having the band provides the restriction we need. Good luck and congrats on your loss so far; 30lbs is great!

BANDED 11/29/10, ONLY LOST 10 LBS....WTH...
reverie replied to fusionbell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Log everything you eat. Often times we *think* we're eating half decent foods with half decent calories when in fact we are overeating. You'll need to take steps to take charge of things. Start tracking everything you eat. Exercise on a routine, i'd say daily, basis. The weight isn't just going to come off if you eat less; it doesn't work like that. You need to burn more calories than what you eat. Also for your own sanity stop comparing your loss to others. No two people on these boards will lose the same amount of weight; no one. -
Which food are forever restricted?
reverie replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
None really unless you have a tight band that doesn't allow you to eat certain foods. I keep my band loose, so I can eat anything. It's about restricting quantity not type. -
I'm not a believer in starvation mode but anyhow try playing around with your calories. Just because you're eating less doesn't mean you're eating the right foods. I could eat less but be eating junk food and sliders. Maybe try upping your exercise as well. Incorporate some weights on some days, cardio on other days. Start tracking everything you eat if you aren't already.
-
Good luck! Seems like you've made the right lifestyle change to be successful without the band.
