Is your band working for you?
reverie replied to babyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep I've had amazing success; wouldn't trade it for the world really, except for those mornings where I'm tighter than normal, but that's usually my own fault as I'm still learning to slow down. Can't say I've done anything to special. Did low carb for the first 6-7 months, now I am eating normally, no low carb low fat low anything. I exercise my butt off, eat what I want within my calorie level and yeah. Have 11lbs to go. Find what works for you weight-loss wise. When you start following your "plan' I think you'll see results. Also, have you gotten a fill? You say you feel like the band isn't even in you. Maybe you need a fill to slowly reach restriction. Good luck and know you have plenty of support here! -
No one can loan you money? There is no local doctor that can help you? Find a way to save up. Eating Soups isn't healthy for your body; forget the weight-loss part. There's no way you're getting nutrients in with just soup. If you can't find a doctor to give you an unfill, maybe go to the ER as recommended above and get a complete unfill. I still remember you mentioning you have the 4cc band and from what I've read that band is no longer used, except in Mexico. Maybe that is part of the reason why you're struggling as it's not you it's the band itself. I'd try to get an unfill ASAP. Keep your head up but don't let yourself suffer any more. Good luck!

Probably your port. Mine is clear as day now, especially when I lay down. I'd love to have it taken out or at least moved elsewhere. Sleep well; nothing to worry about at all
-
You may just need a small unfill; something like .2cc or so. A small unfill will let you keep your restriction but will help with being too tight. I'd say with your period + fill you're a bit too tight. If yogurt doesn't stay down that's a big sign, at least to me. Good luck; keep us updated and try to drink some water. Dehydration is not safe.
-
What are you eating that isn't staying down? You may still be swollen from surgery. Make sure you're taking small bites, and take time in between them. I'd give it a few days but if things still aren't staying down maybe go back to liquids (warm preferably) and call your doctor.

Tomorrow is a new day. Pick yourself back up and move on One bad day isn't going to kill your journey. Good luck!

Be patient..just because you're losing weight doesn't mean the fat is going to immediately diminish from your stomach area. Fat loss occurs wherever it wants. My stomach has been the last to go and I'm wearing size 2s down from size 20s. You'll get there. Be proud that you're wearing much smaller clothes already!

Still fill big?
reverie replied to Princess_Gottalose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm wearing 2s, down from 20s and I definitely still feel fat. It's crazy and definitely a mind game. -
Loving the scale today!!! Down .8 after weeks of NOTHING! Lesson learned: Up your calories at a stall.
-
Ask your doctor. I had to wait 6 weeks; up until then I just walked/did a little jogging.

There's a thread on here about taking the easy way out and how many people who have not had WLS or any type of weight problem see it as a shortcut. But for me personally, I almost feel like I took the hard way. Let me explain: I feel like with all of the fad diets, crazy exercise routines, weight-loss pills, "miracle" cures, weight-loss is even harder, even for the average person looking to lose 10-15lbs. While I do love my band and wouldn't trade it for the world, I almost feel like it sort of blinded me to the reality of healthy eating and nutrition. I hopped on the low carb band wagon really hard. I ate no fruit, no high carb veggies, was strict strict strict until about 3 months ago. During the first 6-7 months I lost amazingly, and I am glad that I rarely hit a long standing plateau, but at the same time I feel like I was almost put behind a mask; my brain went into this "food is evil; carbs are evil; high calorie foods are evil" way of thinking and now that my weight-loss is pretty much in a range I can deal with, it has been hell trying to break these thoughts. I never thought it would be hard to tell myself it's okay to eat carbs. It's okay to eat chocolate. I can eat anything I want. But the fact is that food is not evil. Food didn't make me fat. In my case, overindulging with little to no exercise made me fat. Yesterday I had an Oreo truffle; that's right. A bunch of freaking Oreos mixed with cream cheese and covered in white chocolate. I ate it; devoured more like it and then I felt an immediate sense of guilt. Why? Why does eating something sweet make me feel guilty? I'm not sure. But within a few minutes I came to my senses and realized that ONE truffle was not going to kill me. I was not going to gain 5lbs from it. It's funny how I've gone from being a food lover, to a food hater, and nowadays I am slowly, but surely, training my brain to realize that no food is bad. Nothing; none of it. And plenty of people on here will disagree, but I've allowed more "junk" food into my diet and I love it, but the sense of guilt still lingers. I can't wait until the day where I feel skinny, can eat whatever I want, and not second guess my choice.

Post op liquid diet - can you lose too much?
reverie replied to Sistersue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be fine. If anything you're dropping Water weight and Fluid weight from surgery; not a "true" weight-loss per say. -
How do you get enough fiber?
reverie replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Broccoli. My protein bread/protein bars have high fiber in them. Beans and Nature's Path cereal. I aim for no less than 25g a day. -
It may be harder in the beginning but I did fine at about 800-1000 calories. I did beachbody programs though when I got into more strenuous exercises I upped my calories. I'm eating 1700 nowadays. Having the band doesn't mean you have to be eating a low-calorie diet forever.

Everything in moderation Early snack: Cottage cheese and cinnamon brown sugar almonds Breakfast: Oat bran, eggs, turkey bacon, cheese Snack: Protein bar Lunch: Taco salad Snack: Greek yogurt + lemon protein powder Dinner: Chicken with veggies and a crepe.

Ahh I had one of these last Sunday; popcorn, a few chips, and a dark chocolate PB egg. I did feel guilty however; still working on that.

I feel i can never get full
reverie replied to jeepy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're a week out, what exactly are you expecting? Once you start to get fills and get closer to restriction it gets easier, but for now it's really up to you to use willpower/common sense to get through it. I'd advise you to stay off the scale for another few weeks as losing is not the most important thing right now. Focus on your post-op diet; get your Protein and Water in and allow yourself to heal. The more you stress over things the harder it is for your body to heal properly. Take a breath and realize your journey literally just started. You can't expect much off the bat. It'll get better; right now it's a waiting game. Good luck! -
what medicines for loss of hair
reverie replied to hopeful2 be slim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not really, nope. It's all part of the cycle. Once your hair is falling out it's falling out, but it's also growing back. I was eating a good 100g+ Protein when mine was falling out and it didn't help. Just have to wait it out. -
Untrue; all food has some sort of nutritional value It depends on the kind of rice, pasta, and bread you're eating. I eat brown rice and whole wheat pasta. They are great sources of fiber and whole grains. The bread I eat is full of omega 3s, whole grains, and 14g of protein per slice.
-
It depends on your restriction level. Some people can tolerate it, some can't. I hadn't eaten rice, bread, or pasta for the first 6-7 months. Now I do.

Cake in soft foods phase?
reverie replied to Jenn1214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably..but not sure why you'd want it. I mean I'm all for eating what you want but cake so early out? Eh.. -
Congrats! Rest, get your Protein and Water in and focus on healing!

Hmm...can somebody verify something for me?
reverie replied to Freddy Henin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my. No wonder so many people are misinformed. Gotta love misinformed health "professionals." 1. False. This is usually geared more towards those undergoing gastric bypass. 2. False. You may feel some tightness, maybe PB, but no nothing will rip. The band is sutured to your stomach and then part of the stomach is sort of sutured around the band itself so it's enclosed. -
Why not one of those edible arrangement things?
-
Normal. Surgery and weight-loss are huge interruptions to your normal cycle.
