Hi To All!I am 48 years old, originally from Columbus, Ohio and have lived in Tampa, FL for 17 years now. I have four kids (3 girls and a boy) with only one daughter (14 yrs old) living at home. My husband, Joe, and I have been married for 15 years. He is very supportive of my decision to get lap band surgery. (He hopes to lose weight from it as well)! I have been an oncology nurse for most of my nursing career and currently work in a radiation oncology office. It can be super stressful at times but I really enjoy the interaction with patients and their families.I have been battling my weight since I was in fourth grade--basically yo-yo dieting off and on for years. My most successful weight loss plans have been with Weight Watchers; however, it was always a short-lived success. As a nurse, I see the effects of being overweight as we age and it can definitely be devastating. A lot of my patients have additional problems due to excess weight (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, circulatory issues, etc) and I realize that could EASILY be me. I also realize that if I continue down the path I am going, I may not be around to see my kids enjoy their lives. To me, that is a devastating thought. After a lot of research, I have decided to have the lap band surgery. I am scheduled for April 21, 2010. I have read a lot of entries on this site and it makes me feel comforted in knowing there is support out there for people like me!
