Congratulations! I was banded on July 21 and have so far been successful. I have not had any complications. Surgery is scary but you will do fine. I would like to journey together through this.

Just received word from my insurance that my denial was overturned through my appeal. YAHOO!!!! I can not wait to start this journey to a healthier skinnier ME!
-
Denise, I found your post very helpful and it seems that after you appealed you must have been approved. So, I am hoping this works. If not I will try again in 2011 time goes by fast anyways and it will not be long till its here. Thank you, Selina

Hi, Sorry to hear about your 2nd denial. I totally understand your frustration. I also have been denied twice. I am now starting the appeals process. I was told to have your dr.'s and family members write letters in regards to your health and weight. My BMI dipped to 38 in 2007 then I became pregnant and they are using that against me its very frustrating. Let me know how it goes.

Hi kerri76, I am going through the same as you I have been denied twice. And now am starting the appeal process. If you go to www.lapband.com and search appeal letter they have a really good one also. I also like the one below from sweetsagi. I have bcbs of iowa. Did they say what the reasoning was on your denial? Mine was part of the 3 years I was pregnant and the right before my BMI was 38. I now have BMI of 45 and have hypertenion and high cholesterol. Let me know how it goes.

My insurance does cover this. You have to have a BMI over 40 for 3 years or have BMI 35 + with a co-morbid problems such as sleep apnea, diabetes, hypertension, high cholestrol, etc. I have a BMI of 45 and i have hypertension and i was just put on medication for this and I also have high cholestrol which they tried to put me on medication for this and i have refused this. The insurance denied me saying that it does not list my BMI has been over 40 for 3 years. 4 months out of 2007 I was pregnant and before that I was borderline 40 BMI but I also had diabetes.

You are not alone! I am also awaiting the approval part of this and only my mom and husband know about that. I don't think I will end up telling many people about it either.
