Hello everyone! I joined this site March 2010 and never really did much on it. To be honest, it was almost depressing because I wasn't losing weight as fast as most and i got discouraged. I realize tht everybody is different but still, I became depressed. I had my surgery Feb 26, 2010 and now I've lost 80 lbs. It's slow but steady. I exercise and have completely changed my life. I'm going to run a 5K the end of the month and have been in training. The reason for my post is...

I thought my lapband was going to be my "savior" so to speak. Boy was I wrong! after the initial 13 lb loss, I didn't lose anymore. I had to join a gym and really exercise. I'm SO thankful that I've had to work so hard for this loss. Now, 8 months later, I've lost 50 lbs and gone from a 24w to a 16 misses. The band started me on my way, but hard work and a lifestyle change is the only way to do it. I'm half way there and plan on making it!!!!

Phew, you are telling my exact story. Let me first start by saying, muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. A pound is a pound is pound. After 1 month of doing spin classes and weight lifting, I went to the Dr. and only lost 4 lbs. I couldn't believe it. I was working out SOOOO hard and that's all I got. I talked to my Dr. and he said that it is just your body reacting to the change and trying to hold on to fat. He promised me if I kept with it, I would see the results. You guessed it, I did see the results. I am now in my 2nd month of exercising and lifting weights and in those 2 months, i have lost about 16 lbs but the inches are incredible!!! Just off of my waist, I have lost about 4 inches. I am learning that inches sure look better than weight. Also, my skin isn't looking so bad either because skin wraps around muscle much better. I started this journey Feb 26, 2010 and have lost just about 40 lbs. I started a size 22 pant and now I'm a 16 pant. I have lost weight in the past but have NEVER really exercised and dieted. Either one or the other. Now, I do cardio, weight training, and eat good and I promise you, I step on the scale excited as opposed to holding my breath. Occassionally, I will see an increase, but that is water gain and not fat. If I ate something a little saltier that day, I will notice a gain. But it doesn't stick. I wish you all luck. Stick with the weights and the workouts. It will pay off. We are so used to measuring how good we're doing by what the scale says, but If you get away from that and focus on how your body looks and how you're dropping inches, you will be SO much happier. I'm almost laughing that I'm giving advise like this because I'm in this struggle too. Somebody shared this info with my and I'm glad I listened. BTW, I started @293 and am

My first blog a few weeks ago was about beling stalled at losing 12 lbs. I'm happy to report now that 7 weeks out of surgery, I've lost 25 lbs. The difference for me came with intense exercise. I do water aerobics 2x per week along with spin class 3x per week and even a bootcamp class 1x per week. Yep, that's 6 days per week. For me, my body adjusted quickly to eating smaller portions and decided to hang on to it and not budge an inch. After I added the intense exercise or as my friend calls my workout plan, "beast workout" my body has decided to learn to burn the fat. I am 265 lbs but yes I do all of these exercises. I wouldn't have thought I could, but I push myself and even have a group of friends that go to the gym and work out with me. I honestly thought that this journey would be easier. I thought initially I would just lose lots of weight because of eating smaller portions. WRONG! For me, the real change didn't come until I added the exercise. Now I've averaged at least 2 lbs per week weight loss and am very proud of that. I had my first fill 3 weeks ago and really don't notice a difference. I still get pretty hungry between meals but I've learned how to eat fruit or nuts to get me through. I'm looking forward to getting to that sweet spot when I don't have real hunger between meals.

I have finally found out what "stuck" means. I went out to dinner at Applebee's and ordered off of the weight watchers selection. I was eating broccoli and omg, I started burping and then I drank a little water hoping to get it moving.... Needless to say, I left that brocolli in their restroom. Never again? Then, a few days later I was eating some roast beef, and I felt like i was going to have a heart attack. No matter how much i chewed, it wouldn't go down right. I am the worst eater for taking big bites but now I'm learning to eat slower but still, those 2 things don't work for me. I've started losing again and now i'm up to 15 lbs. Can't wait to get my first fill in 2 weeks! I'll keep you posted. Happy Easter!

I was so excited over my initial weight loss of 12 lbs for my first 2.5 week check up. But since then, I have lost maybe 1/2 lb. I'm eating good, exercising and still no more loss. I have not had a fill yet but i feel that on my own, i've lost more. I drink a protein shake everyday for breakfast, Have veggies and chicken or fish for lunch, and pretty much the same for dinner. I started at 283 so surely i should be losing more with the little "bird" size servings I'm eating. my exercising is light, short walks and recently i've added swimming. True enough, I'm not breaking a sweat while exercising, but still, it's more than i was doing. HELP someone, point me in the right direction and help me with foods to eat to restart my system. I'm afraid my body is thinking it's ok to just eat that amount and not lose weight.

Your post was very informative to me. I've had my band since 2/26 and i find that i'm frustrated already. Initially, first dr visit i had lost 12 lbs. I've only lost another 1/2 lb in 2 weeks. I'm eating good and even exercising. I made a post today that I was frustrated. Any advise you can give would be appreciated.

I'm so happy. After being overweight my entire life, I've finally taken this big step. I just had my 2 week visit after banding (2 1/2 weeks) and I lost 12 lbs. I've noticed that I can eat more and am trying very hard to stay on task until I get my fist fill at 6 weeks. I'm very excited and pleased so far.
