Missed You Guys Haven't been on in a while.
5jacks replied to Alexra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations!! I have twin boys (they are 7 now!). During the pregnancy I gained 28 pounds total......(gained 37 with my first son). They were born 3 weeks early, Austin weighed 6# 6 oz, Zane weighed 6# 8 oz. and when I went back for the 6 week checkup I'd lost all but 5 pounds of it. I didn't have the band back then....guess what I'm trying to say is that it seems like a lot to you but the babies really zap out a lot too, not only during pregnancy and birth but during the first few months also! Don't worry about weight loss, you have the tool to help you get it off when you're ready! Good luck and if you need any pointers just IM me! -
My husband came up with another one......4# bags of sugar....I've lost 11 of them!
-
Was wondering if anyone else figured their weight loss in a funny way? For instance.....I've lost 44 pounds since January......that is equivalent to 14.5 cans of Crisco shortening OR 176 sticks of butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

??? What about eating out?
5jacks replied to Longingtolose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't had any problems. Went to Joe's Crab Shack today...had the fish and shrimp. Switched the coleslaw and fries for a dish of steamed vegies. Ended up eating the shrimp and one on the fillets, took the other fish and vegies home. The only thing i've heard while eating out is from the waiter/waitresses. Usually something like, "oh, I see you're slowing down, must be getting full". Don't offer an explanation unless you want too, just ask for a doggie bag! -
My doctor doesn't say anything different for before the fill, then softer foods/mushies the day of the fill....back to normal next day. My past 2 fills I didn't feel much like eating much afterwards. Always makes me feel a little queasy or something for a day or two.

We're in the middle of a cold spell....it's rained all day and is ending up with big fat flakes of snow. Will have to wait till things dry up a bit and I'll try to get a good picture. Then the trick will be to figure out how to get it in the e-mail...it's about time I put a ticker and my info. in anyway! I'm loving this....have went all around the kitchen/house trying to figure everything into lost weight. So far none of my new ideas have been better than the ones already mentioned!
-
yeah......and a big dog at that!
-
That means I've lost 22 boxes of Velveeta! I'm loving this.....your dog is 1.5 boxes of cheese, mine is 45 boxes of Velveeta!! Misty is a 90 pound black lab....sounds like we feed her a lot but we live on a farm, she's always finding something to chow down on! Can you imagine stacking up 22 boxes of Velveeta, 176 sticks of butter or 4 bags of potatoes and carrying them around all day? No wonder my knees and feet are feeling better!

Go for it! Take it easy and leave the crust alone. I was banded January 18, have had 2 fills and can still eat pizza. Difference is I usually eat one bite of thin crust pizza and then eat the rest of the toppings off that piece and quit! Used to I could eat 3 pieces and another later on in the evening after we got home. Be careful, chew well and good luck!
-
Wouldn't it be great if we could pour the fat out like dog food!!
-
Love the Velveeta cheese idea....maybe it will make me not like it so much if I can think of it as fat instead of creamy cheese!!!!
-
Congrats!!!! Aren't those unexpected NSV's wonderful?!??!?!?! Enjoy every moment of them....you deserve it!

I've been checking in, just don't post very often. Ball practices have started for my 3 boys and Spring is sort of here.....on a farm that means lots of outside work and very little computer time! Okay, an update...Was banded on January 18th, have had 2 fills for a total of 2.25, scheduled for 3rd fill on April 23. I've been stuck 3 times, each time was due to eating too fast/not chewing well or mainly from taking a bite of cold leftover food that should of been warmed up (leftover BBQ turkey). Don't usually get really full, just use a small saucer for a plate and quit when it's empty. As for the TOM...not sure about the restriction during that week but I have realized since January, I get really hungry and have the muchies for about 10 days, 2 weeks before the TOM. Then all of a sudden the weight just falls off?!?!?! I lost 4 pounds over night this time! Total weight lost is 44 pounds in 14 weeks! Haven't checked the measurments but have went from a 30/32 to a 22/24 so far! Hope everyone else comes on here and updates....it's been so slow on the January bandsters thread and would love to hear from everyone!

Lots of things started the thinking of surgery but the final thing was last Fall. Was working the concession stand for the boys' little league football games, one of the parents (and a friend) was working it with me. I was messing around and teasing her son (in kindergarten then) and was trying to "catch" him from across the concession window. He kept jumping back and finally he said really loudly...."you're too fat to jump through there and get me". Now we've all heard that kind of stuff before but he got in a lot of trouble, he wouldn't apologize to me as his parents asked so he got a spanking. I felt so horrible that because of my problem, he got punished. I truly support the friend in sticking to teaching her child the proper things to say....but he was just 6 and I felt so bad. Had surgery in January and am down 42 pounds!!! Love the band and wouldn't change anything so far! I might add that a few weeks ago, my oldest son't classmate (6th grade) came up to me in the hallway and said, "Lisa, you're just not looking like Lisa anymore!" Kids, gotta love em'!

I was banded in January.....remember being able to feel it somewhat! After a little bit, maybe a few weeks, I wasn't able to feel it much anymore. Now, (down 42 pounds!!!) if I eat too much or eat a "bigger" portion than what I'm used to I feel a small bump there. It almost feels like all the food is sitting there waiting to go through?!?!?! Just made it through Easter dinner and am having the bump thing going on. As long as it's not hurting and you're not running a fever I wouldn't worry about it too much. Of course I'm not a doctor and if you're concerned you should call the nurse for their opinion to be safe.

Okay, I can officially say that I've been stuck twice and have foamed once! Weird.....each time it happened I was eating cold leftovers out of the fridge. I've had 2 fills for a total of 2.25 in a 4cc band....can still eat Subway sandwiches (although about a 1 inch slice off of one instead of an entire sandwich!). Last time I figured it up I've lost 42 pounds in 13 weeks.....started at a 30/32 and got into 24 jeans about 4 days ago!

How do you know if food is stuck?
5jacks replied to Syrah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my first stuck epidsodes.....two in two days! In my case it was a sharp pain in my chest about 10 seconds after swallowing, followed by a lot of spit or some people call it slime....which I figured out quickly to spit not swallow! After a lot of spitting in the sink the pain subsided and all was fine....felt like throwing up, the tingly feeling I get before upchucking was there but nothing actually happened. It wasn't as horrible as I'm making it sound, not a great thing either but definitely nothing to be afraid of. -
what I wish I had known/done presurgery
5jacks replied to healthny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wish someone would of told me or that I would have read to take mints, or certs of some type for after surgery. My surgeon didn't let us even sip water....the taste from the anesthetic was horrible and my mouth was so dry. Every time I went to the bathroom I would brush my teeth just as an excuse to get water in my mouth! As soon as I got approval I walked down to the gift shop and got some lifesavers (my husband had already went home to be with the kids). Other than that, like others have said, read read read and read some more, ask any and all questions, we've all had them, none are silly! -
I did it and didn't have any trouble....after they get soggy they kind of turn into a thick liquid anyway.
-
We're farmers and I like to tan a little in early Spring so I don't get burned the first full day on the tractor. My doctor said there was absolutely nothing I could do on a daily basis to hurt the band. I listed all kinds of things....tanning, airplane, jacuzzi, public pool, sea doo riding, water skiing, calf wrestling, fence building, he said it wouldn't hurt a thing.

Back again but for good this time
5jacks replied to househuntress's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We've all been exactly where you are right now! My knees were killing me, much better now (surgery was Jan. 18....have lost 40 pounds so far!!!), I eat out with the kids/family and haven't had any problems. It's a lot easier when you're not starving 24/7! I'll tell you what my husband told me when I first asked him what he thought, "hon, this is your body, your decision.... do your research, do some soul searching, and pray for the strength to accept the decision you make" worked for me......good luck and feel free to ask any questions you want! -
What does restriction feel like for you???
5jacks replied to louise162's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Flaming golf ball definitely describes it well! I was banded January 18th, had second fill 5 days ago and have "flamed" yesterday and today! Not a pleasant experience! Both of my instances there was no signs, was able to eat both items last week but not now. One was a tator tot from Sonic, one tot and I was using the sack to spit in.... the other was a peice of bbq turkey. Ate out last night and it went down fine....leftover this morning it was dry and I rushed. This is such a learning experience!! -
I haven't so not sure I can help. Are you getting all your water in? I was told years ago that especially the week or two before the visitor to load up on water....makes the process a little less painful?!?!?! December 2005 I had endometrial ablation, sure that's spelled wrong!!....had really heavy periods and that procedure really helped with the cramping and the volume. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!
