Actually, Swanson broth in the can is what Ive been living off of. Vegetable and beef only, cant stand the chicken anymore. Actually made homemade Miso Soup today. IT was AWESOME! Did you just strain all your broths from Soups I assume? -

Thanks Jen, for reminding me! LOL, I was just sitting here thinking that Wed will be here REALLY fast! I have only 3 more days of liquids. Went and got my Isopur powder today for post op Clear Liquids. BUT, then again, I jumped on the scale this morning and I am down 31 lbs since my first visit and about 23 of that is my pre-op! So, seeing the results is making me excited and scared all at the same time! -
Ok, so things are going great pre-op diet wise. Except today, I notice my tounge is yellow and pasty. Hmmmmm, dehydrated? I think so! So I started pouring water into my system and it is slowly going away. Guess I thought I was getting enough fluids in me, but apparently not. NOTE to self, drink 32 oz of water at a minimum! Or the chalk monster will eat you alive on day 12 of the liquid diet! So far, 30lbs down! About 20 since on liquids!

Every year I have a DOT physical that requires a chest x-ray. This is just for record incase anything happens to me over time, ex; exposures to asbesto's, carcinogens, ect. Now when I go this year, and they see the band, do they notify the employer? Or since it is surgically installed, and not a "condition" is my privacy protected? Not too worried, but Im just curious if that would be an invasion of privacy protected through HIPPA?

My surgery is scheduled for May 5th, I started my pre-op on the 19th. Just because it was a monday. I was told to drink the Sugar free Carnation breakfast or Bariatriac advantage 5x's a day, every 3 hours. The carnation is with 8oz of milk (1% or skim) and the bariatric advantage uses water. Sugar free Jello and Sugar free popcicles. Any beef, chicken or vegetable broth. I started dieting in Febuary and with the liquid diet, I am down 29 lbs. 7 more days til surgery and I am kind of pumped about the weight loss! My doctor told me also that he was proud of my weight loss and that I too could add a protein/veggie meal, 4oz max of chicken/beef and greens. I felt guilty for eating the 4oz today, but man did it fill me up! LMAO Couldnt believe that part either. But it did happen. So full now, that I may pass on my 5th shake!

Ok, so the temptation to hurt anyone with food now has officially passed. I actually made it two hours this past weekend at the carnival with the family before the smell of turkey legs, corn dogs, funnel cakes and fajita's made me snap. I swear, had I stayed there one more minute, I may have been on your local news! But I was strong! Got to the truck and cracked open a cool, ice cold Aquafina. Yummmmmmm. Made it home and a little broth and a shake made all the bad people pain go away.... :w00t: I survived. But its now the morning of day 10 and I feel so great. If this morning is a feel of things to come, I cant wait. I am so excited to see the results and cant wait to share this experience with others! Funny though, on my liquid diet, a few people have noticed the weight drop and ask alot of questions about my "great diet" , LMAO, so I tell them. "YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!" May 5th surgery, here I come!

Well, my pre-registration is done, Im down 26lbs now pre-op and on day 10 of my liquid diet. For those that dont have the pre-op diets, the only thing I can think why not is because your insurance. Most insurance will only allow one bariatric procedure at a time. Meaning if they go in and the liver is too fatty and in the way, they cant safely install the band. So there goes your one attempt. IF your insurance doesnt require it, most likely they have no limitation on surgical attempts. The whole point of the pre-op is to shrink and firm up the liver. The instruments used when moving the liver out of the way, can puncture it causing complications. I guess thats pretty much why I was so scared to not cheat. My insurance only allows one attempt at it. But on the bright side! May 5th is coming REALLLLLY fast! I cant wait!

My wife walks into work today and first thing she hears is a co-workers 28 yr old brother passed away last night. Cause was Obesity. His body gave up. First he couldnt breathe and then his liver stopped working. Had a job where he didnt have insurance to cover any type of procedure to help with his weight. Its interesting that my Dr. told me yesterday that I am doing so well on my own, I may want to re-consider....not that he didnt want to do the surgery, just my focus and weight loss was going so well, I could think about this.....Well, I get this text and think back of dealing with my weight for last 15 years. Im sure I can do this on my own, but I know it wont last....So Im moving forward with this. No going back for me now. Tired of being heavy. Going to change my life now.

So my Journey started in November of 09 and I really didnt try hard during the holidays....But alot has changed. Finding out the facts of surgery and the truth behind the pre-op really made me focus. It is now 8 days out from my surgery and Im down 23 lbs, and still going down. Dr. Griffin was really proud of me and told me if I was hungry and "needed" to eat, do so but healthy. I understood what he meant. So my registrastion is complete, blood work, EKG and X-rays done. Im ready. 8 more days to focus on my diet, then the life changing event. Anyone who says this is the easy way out is out of their mind! This is truely the hardest diciplined thing I have ever had to do. No food and liquids only! And I never cheated. Amazing what a little prayer will do!

Support is key to getting through this. And read as much as you can and understand that the bad posts really are few and between compared to the positives. Stay focused and know you have friends going through this with you. My pre op was the 5 shakes a day, sugar free jello/popcicles and broth of my choice. I can send you details, but your doc will probably have his own. And most importantly, know that the pre-op is more than just shrinking your liver. Its too firm it up as well. This is so important when you have your sugery. My insurance allows for one attempt. If they go in and the liver is in the way, no second chance. So the initiative to stay focused is pretty high for me! and lastly...saw your profile and Im a Navy husband! LOL

On day 3 and 4 I wanted hurt anyone I saw eating. LMAO I told my neighbor that if she BBQ's in the next 15 days that I would have to make her dissapear. She promised not too! lol! On day 3 and 4 for me is when my stomach started to eat my insides! My stomach got SOO loud on days 3 and 4 it was hillarious! And I knew right then and there it was changing. I have started dropping weight really well, but staying focused and diciplined is the hardest challenge I have ever faced. Just yesterday I had an emergency at work where my guys couldnt leave for lunch and I had to run and get food for everyone, and talk about hard! So, I just imagined my 1oclock shake to be a #5 combo! I think coming here and reading the support has been great for me. It has actually saved me! And not to mention making friends along this journey helps. Its easy to go to people and share knowledge and experience for support. Even last night I was throwing my head on the desk thinking how easy it would be just to have a bite of something! But I didnt want to cheat. On the positive side? I have had the most wild energy I have ever had. I found myself doing anything and everything to keep myself busy. So, my house and yard is lookin pretty good right about now!

Cheating on Pre-Surgery Diet
Dblex replied to kookaburra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look at it this way. If my wife hadnt been supportive and even willing to do liquids with me, I think I would be dying! The pre-op diet is one of the hardest dicipline things I have ever done in my life. It is so easy to cheat and so easy to give up, but you have to look in the mirror and really make a decision on who you want to be. Think of it as a motivation to challenge yourself and change who you are. Being a man, I think of the struggle I have had with weight loss, and look at the point where I am in my life and decided I dont want to be this heavy guy anymore. I think I am more scared of the life changes than I am the surgery and challenges. I mean I have been heavy since I stopped playing football in college and I think back....when was I most happy? And truely....it was when I was working out, playin ball and living a healthy lifestyle. I unfortunately live in the highest diabetic county in the nation, I see the results everyday, and I just dont want to be that person anymore. So, this one commitment.......both pre-op and post op are going to change your life forever. I had to challenge myself to finish one thing thru in life....and I know this is it....... Suggestions are: Get rid of any temptation in your house. I mean everything. If you dont see it, you wont be tempted. I know I know, I have kids too, but the only food in my house now is for them only. Get support. Find someone local who you can call when you want to break down and cheat. Talking about it helps get through those moments. READ, READ, READ, this well help you understand what can happen if you dont change your ways. Think about the long term health affects. And remember, everyone here is going through this with you. And we understand. RP
