    well you dont HAVE to have that podcast. if your treadmill is at home just enlist the help of your DH maybe ... have him time the 5 mins then 60/90 second intervals til you reach 20 mins (that is 8 sets of running/walking) then the 5 mins cooldown. or if you are at a gym, you can just watch the clock on the treadmill. good luck!

    i'm doing it on a treadmill ... a tad easier on my old knees. remember - if you get injurned or think you may have strained something, ICE it... great job, guys! attached is my first day pic (of treadmill). 1.71 miles in just over 30 mins... any experienced runners (ahem, Jacqui) have opinions?? :biggrin1:

    Couch to 5K - Week of 14 ? 20 October

    good morning!! well i did it. i went for my first run of week 1. i didnt think that podcast was ever going to end!! i slowed it down like Jachut suggested and averaged about 4.1 MPH on the run and 3.3-3.6 on the walking. i'm kinda sore but i didnt work out much this weekend. i am going to have to stretch better before Wednesday's run. Karen G - i agree about the music on the podcast, there's just something about it ... Trystelle - my butt is a little sore, almost where my left leg meets the bottom of my butt. everywhere i've read suggests to rest a day inbetween runs. Ariel - i just bought new shoes - New Balance 1226?? but i'm too chicken to break them in while running (???????) babygrl - good idea about going to a running store. maybe i will look into one and return my NB's?? great job everyone! keep it up!

    jacqui - ok ... i trust you. i will try to "run" at about 4 - 4.2 MPH. i really do understand the time vs distance thing, now if i could get my brain / legs to completely cooperate ... i guess it's a mental thing, if i'm not 'running' quickly then i'm not running at all... ariel - maybe it has to do with the cold weather? i know my band is super tight in the AM and if you are breathing in cold air and / or drinking cold - ??????? no clue, sorry.. laura - the boob thing is not something i have to worry about ... they have shrunk SOOOO horribly (46/48C to 42B where the cup is not exactly running over ) i am going M/W/F too. ok, i am about to start the weekly thread. i really am pumped, my DH thinks i'm nuts, but what's new?? :heh:

    Jacqui, thanks so much ... i will definitely take your advice! the fastest i've ever ran is 5.2 MPH and that was for about 5-10 seconds . i normally go about 5.0. do you think that's still too much? i truly value your input. i guess i just dont really feel like i am 'running' if i dont go above 4.7ish. i am about 5'9" and have longish legs. thanks, C

    oh wow, i am so excited for everyone to join in! we can do this. couple of things i read in other boards (yes, i actually lurk in a running board!! ) - push yourself but dont OVER PUSH yourself if you know what i mean. yes, it is going to be not easy (who said exercising ever was??), but you dont want to get injured. - stretch properly. there are some good stretches here on coolrunning.com i read somewhere - cant remember where though sorry - the ideal 'speed' is fast enough to get your heart rate to 65-90% of your target HR. 90 seems a bit high though and i dont recommend staying up there for too long. last time i ran my ultra max HR was 96% (for about 15 seconds) and my average was only 75%. i got a great workout but didnt over do it! :whoo: jmcambra - glad you figured out the iPod ... I am horrible with writing directions... lauraj23 - i dont think you'd die, that would really suck! i guess start slow and work your way up from there. as jmcambra said, you could even do it on an elliptical if your knees are shot. we can take it as fast or slow as we want. i know i will be repeating weeks. Ariel - i have the same goal. a nice marathon in 2009. might as well start now!! soniacan - oh yes, i remember winters in the midwest (i'm from St. Louis and there isnt too too bad). do what you can. trystelle - SOO glad you made it through the first run and that you didnt give up. good job! :clap2::clap2: ok. this is what i am going to do (or try to at least) - every Sunday i will post a new thread in the exercise forum for that week. we can check in there and discuss our trials and triumphs! i am pumped!!!

  18. alfie that sounds like thats it. you have to actually CLIMB up the thing to get on and that bottom step goes down a bit. it is not easy for me at all. but who said exersing was supposed to be easy ... :eek:
  19. Julie, you do look simply amazing! i cant believe i'm starting to really think about PS. my arms are just horrible (well, everything is horrible, but my arms are more toned but the skin hanging is just dreadful!!) question about the mons lift - is that normally part of a LBL? thanks!

Alfie - my first time on the elliptical was less than 2 minutes. i gradually increased by 10-15 seconds each time i got on. i have gone for as long as 60 minutes, but now i try to break my cardio up so i dont get bored. right now my 'challenge machine' is that blasted Stairmaster. i can usually go about 2 minutes on it. i've gone as many as 3, but i have noooooo idea how i did that ... :eek: slow and steady start and you'll be rocking in no time!
  21. well it's been a year already! i cant believe it!! i've been as low as 267, but right now i'm about 272-ish. i've finally got my crap together again (i'm sure of it this time!!!) here are my before/current front view and side view.
  22. the only thing that has gotten rid of some of my flabby tummy and legs is cardio. LOTS and LOTS of cardio. i average about 45 mins a day for 5-6 days a week. weekends i tend to do more (up to 90ish minutes). good luck!

    which iPod do you have? you may have to change the settings on your iPod. when it is connected to your puter, click on your iPod (on the left hand side of the computer screen), there are tabs towards the top of iTunes, one may be Podcasts. just make sure that the podcasts that you want to have on your iPod are checked, then synch it again. hth
