Hi everyone!
I'm getting banded this coming Wednesday, March 17th and I cannot wait. I need this tool and I welcome it with a huge sigh of relief. I'm picturing it as my own personal rubberband around my wrist telling me "No, Wendy.. that's a bad choice." Just no personal flicking of the band needed.
I've been overweight for about 25 years and have always been self-conscious but fairly accepting of my size. A few years ago I lost over 50lbs on Weight Watchers and thought I got my act together... but then I had a new fiance, life got happy and busy, and once again I stopped focusing on myself. 100 pounds later and here I am.
My mother passed away from metastatic breast cancer in December and that was my biggest wakeup call. After being diagnosed myself with two benign lumps in January... I just have to get myself healthy so I take away those risk factors.
I chose the band because I don't know that I could handle make a permanent change to my body makeup. I read interesting articles on the success of the sleeve a couple of months ago, but I put that aside again because of my "no physical changes" mantra, but also because I didn't think it would be approved by my insurance. Imagine my surprise when I started my tests last month and when I called my insurance about banding they told me that their preferred WLS method was the sleeve. And now after reading this forum for a couple of days I'm second guessing my choice a little but not enough to put off my surgery. I am comfortable with the choice that I have made.
