Has anyone used Dr. Frantzides in Skokie, IL for VSG? Results, opinions? Thanks.

OK, so I'm reading all the super stories here and I'm 80% sold on a procedure that six months ago I would have told you "no way!" and while doing my research, as so many of you say to do, I ran across this LINK: http://www.promedica.com.gr/erevna_en.htm What is super sleeve? Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is not so simple as any other gastrectomy. There are some important technical details, unknown to inexperienced surgeons. Gastric tube size influences both the degree of weight loss and weight stability. A large sleeve predisposes to gastric dilatation and weight regain. Inexperienced surgeons tend to create large tubes (:thumbup1: or to leave back large remnants of the gastric fundus. A standardised technique with a gastric capacity less than 100 mL (A) is mandatory in order to get the patient achieve a durable weight loss. The sleeve should be "super" which means a small gastric sleeve diameter and a higher degree of restriction. In our hands, with the gastric capacity been restricted to 60-80 gr and Ghrelin (the appetite hormone) totally suppressed, the resultant weight loss is predictable and comparable to this achieved with gastric by-pass (60-70% EWL), without any serious complication or side effects (e.g. Vitamin malabsorption). We introduced super sleeve in our bariatric program, as the most effective and safe bariatric solution even for the super-obese patients. ============================ Before you tell me I'm losing it, I would like to ask, are there any Super Sleevers on board here? Might there be? Thank you.:biggrin0:

OK, my upper GI came back with esophageal dysmotility. Has anyone else had this and still have the VSG? I'm praying it doesn't stop me! Thanks for any advice.

I don't know you, but I'm a big guy and I've got your back if you need help. Along with everyone else on this board.

Dr. Aceves, June 30. Anyone?
-
Just checking in Ally. I'm still looking at 30 June. I hope it's ok to post here on the July thread because I feel like I'll get to know more of the early July people than the earlier June people. (Sometimes things get really complicated for me). Now I have to make my air reservations. See you in about 3 weeks!

Hello there - I'm looking to get sleeved in the next month and, like you, I'm an attorney. Because of my weight this guy who was once the scourge of courtrooms all over the American West today is embarrassed to even go near one. Yep, it's all come crashing down and now I've decided to do something about it, VSG. How did you come across this particular WLS, I"m wondering, and what kind of research have you done? Looking forward to hearing from you and wishing you all the best success when you go into surgery.:thumbup1:

What are you looking forward to?
CavyGuy replied to SouthernSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Knowing I will never again hear my doctor say, You're going to have a stroke or heart attack within 10 years. This is the last decade of your life, if you don't get this weight off." I"m ready to forget the first time I looked in a store window, saw my reflection, and thought someone was following close behind. It was my huge butt. What a jolt! Getting out of a chair without my knees feeling like they're about to explode. XL: no. T: yes. Having my air cutoff by the booth at Outback (I'm only here to eat--more--yes, you may need a jack to get me the hell out of here). Forgetting that there was a food shortage in my house while I was growing up and spending my adult life eating like it was about to run out again. Going to an NBA game without calling ahead about the seat size. Screw this, I'm 68 and I want this done like yesterday, not some bullshit July. Now! -
Male:Female Ratio in the Forum
CavyGuy replied to Indian Sleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read the forums just about every day and post frequently. But again, I'm 68 and by that age there's nothing left to cover up--everyone knows all your secrets! Especially the fact that I"m big as a barn door. This is how it is: I've told several of my friends I'm going to have WLS and not one has said, "You? You don't look obese/fat/overweight to me?" Not one. I guess maybe I was the last to know, you know? Anyway, post away, you'll hear back from some really cool people who really have it together. :001_cool: -
Hi Ron, It's always so cool to see another guy on here, although the female population has taught me so much already and I'm sure they will you too. It looks like you'll be having surgery ahead of me so, good luck! And welcome to the forum.:001_cool:

esophageal dysmotility and VSG
CavyGuy replied to CavyGuy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Esophageal dysmotility means the normal manner of swallowing working down through the esophagus is haywire. Not a medical definition, but hey. With me it's asymptomatic. (It can be caused by morbid obesity. ahem.):001_cool: -
getting nervous..

You just go for it! You've got a heckuva lot of life ahead of you and you might as well live it slim and beautiful. Best wishes.:001_cool: -
esophageal dysmotility and VSG
CavyGuy replied to CavyGuy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aha! My surgeon just emailed me and told me that my medical issue is not contraindicated for the sleeve! Hurray! Only people with severe gastroesophageal reflux should be hesitant, but I don't have that. Thank you for listening to me.:001_cool: -
Is Medicare really covering VSG? or not?
CavyGuy replied to valleyfree's topic in Insurance & Financing
Medicare does not cover VSG. Here is the link http://www2.cms.gov/manuals/downloads/ncd103c1_Part2.pdf -- see page 10 of the document. Find Paragraph C and you will get the straight talk. Current as of 12.18.09. We can only hope.... -
Nah, just doing my due diligence. I"ve already scheduled with Nina.

Well I'm 68 and looking forward to seeing Dr. Aceves in the OR on June 30. I'm scared as heck and wonder if I'm doing the right thing, but the alternatives, stroke or heart attack, do loom huge for me in the future, according to my PCP, if I don't get this weight off. I take him seriously and so I am proceeding. Wish me luck! Thank you.

I'm slated for June 30. I"m sure we'll meet. I"m 6-4 and bloated, you'll know me right away!:biggrin0:

Anyone else having surgery with Dr. Aceves over the 4th of July weekend?
CavyGuy replied to 1MP4Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is June 30th so I know I"ll be at Hospital Almater at least part of the weekend. My wife will be with me. If I"m still there I"m sure we'll meet and talk.:001_tt2: -
Why would you leave the US for surgery?
CavyGuy replied to Leuteus's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
This thread made for some darn fine reading while my heart is pounding over my decision to have VSG. Thanks for the show. -
That's right, old as Methusaleh, 68, and going for the sleeve. My PCP told me I"ll have a stroke or heart attack w/i 10 years if I don't lose this 100 pounds and I took him at his word. Dr. Aceves is my choice, after reading just about everything on the Internet and watching everything on YouTube. I"ve already had my knee replaced and would like to keep the other one. I love hiking and x-c skiing and want to get going again. Age, I've come to understand, is a state of mind. It means I've been around the sun 68 times and on this trip I'm giving back a piece of my stomach. Seriously, any advice, esp. about going south of the border? TIA!:biggrin0:

West Allis here. I'm just now starting to think about seeing Dr. Aceves in Mexicali for the WLS/sleeve. Right now I"m getting used to the idea of getting better medical care in Mx than the US, but hey, he's done 700 sleeves. Find a U.S. doc with that much experience and I'll think about him/her too. Probably going to get it done June/July, I'm Medicare so it's all self pay. I certainly would like to hear from everyone. Thanks!
