  1. Can anyone tell me what is the medical reason for the weight restriction after banding? My doctor told me not to lift more than 5 lbs for 6 weeks. I have a 4 year old and 23 mo. old (30lbs). The little one still wants to be picked up sometimes. I"ve adhered to these rules and haven't been alone with them since my surgery, but I had to pick him up several times at church today. I didn't have any help like I thought I would. Otherwise, I would not have gone. Now I'm feeling quite sore on the right side of my stomach. I have my post-op appointment tomorrow (I was banded 3/25/10) but don't really want to bring it up b/c I could tell my doc was concerned about me not lifting my toddler before the surgery. I now know physically what it feels like to go against those orders :smile2:, but I was wondering what exactly might be going on inside my belly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Let me re-phrase my question. I'm wondering if anyone knows what are the consequences (other than the outward pain I can feel) of not following the restrictions. Is it the risk of ripping, tearing, shifting, moving things including the port? I wasn't told specifically what might happen. I was just told don't do it.
  3. I've definitely cheated since my surgery. I was banded March 25th and now I'm on full liquids. I did good on Clear Liquids but about day 2 or 3 on full liquids, I just felt like I couldn't drink another nasty Protein shake. I think its a texture issue for me. I don't like how thick the protein makes the shakes nor the taste it gives them. I bought an unflavored brand so that I could mix it in just about everything but I still hate it. I ordered a sampler pack from Bariatriceating.com and am waiting for it to arrive. I hope they'll taste better than what I have now. I've cheated on things like green Beans (that I chewed until it was liquid), bread, and a little spaghetti I made for my family. I'm chewing EVERYTHING I cheat on until it liquifies in my mouth, but this full liquid phase sucks! I'm not eating all the horrible things I used to eat but I'll be glad when I can move on to "mushies".

    A VERY big problem...HELP

My husband tells me "Good Job!" everytime I fart now. It's hilarious. I wish I could burp though. I too have that feeling that there's just a big ole bubble stuck in the middle of my chest. My son will probably cheer when I finally get a big burp out! I totally fit in with the boys now

    Banded March 26th!!!

I was banded March 25th. I too am very excited but I know this isn't going to be an easy journey. My gas pain hasn't subsided yet...I can still feel it in my back and chest sometimes. And my incisions are itching like crazy!!!! Do you mind if I ask what type of work you do? I don't feel I'm quite ready to return to work yet b/c I'm still a little sore and bending over is still a challenge. (I'm an Inspector.) Are you still sore? How's your appetite? I've actually felt hungry a few times but mostly nauseous. Maybe its still the pain meds. This might sound crazy, but one of the things I look forward to most is bending over to tie my shoes without feeling any discomfort from fat rolls! I'll gladly deal with gas pains and an itchy stomach for awhile if it means not shopping at the plus-sized stores anymore

    Day after Sx

MadysMom, I'm so glad you posted this question! I've been feeling the same way. I was banded on 3/25 too and haven't had much appetite and have been feeling nauseous most of the day. I keep telling myself "this too shall pass". Right now I can't tolerate the taste of the protein powder in my drinks. I've made a few smoothies that were just "ok". None have been great though. I'm glad to know this is normal and that there is a light at the end of this long tunnel. Let's both try to stay encouraged
