My family DNA is stacked against me in terms of high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, and premature death (mid-60's).  You would think that would be enough of a push to do something about my weight BUT the final straw was the advancement of my degenerative disc disease.  At age 44 I have undergone a discectomy for my L5-S1 and then 5 years later had to have the L5-S1 fused.  Within a year my C5-C6 started acting up and I am looking at a discectomy in my neck soon.  I am too young to have these kinds of issues.  Its time to fight back against the stacked deck.  I hope that the lapband is the tool I need to make this life change that I so desperately need and want.  It is my goal to shed 70 pounds and hopefully get off my medications and slow down the spine issues I am having.  I got serious about this when I discovered that my insurance DOES cover the surgery and I have spent so much on my spine this year that it should be at a relatively low cost to me.  It is our hope to get the surgery done before June.  All of the required doctor visits are complete.  We are awaiting word from my insurance.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!
