Sorry to hear about that. I went to my second seminar (different doc) and Iam punking out of this whole thing. The doc mostly talked about gastric bypass. I prayed while the doc was talking and by the time I walked out of the office my mind was changed. Besides humana requires 6 month diet and I just don't feel like waiting, so I quit. I go to my doc Wed so Iam going to talk about getting back on the diet pills. I know those pills aren't any good for your health but theres nothing else. I had my hopes build up but I really believe its not ment to be. Iam 32 yrs old weigh 280 lbs and 5'11 hopefully I can get enough will power to lose my 80 lbs. Maybe you should call humana Monday and complain I know theres something you can do about that. I know its hard and your feelings are hurt. Good Luck ~Carmille

When I called the doc I realized the nurse telling me to pay $100 at the first visit and she said something else but I quite didn't understand. I waited the whole weekend and called back on Monday, what she said was the final visit I'll have to pay $3900 out of pocket! What the hell? Basicly my insurance covers the surgery but the doc wants $4000 out of pocket that they won't except insurance. I was confused and hurt. So I canciled my appointment and found another doc (Dr Shina). Come to find out they don't charge no phy fee everything is covered by insurance the only thing you'll have to pay is your insurance co-pay :clap2:. I was about to give up until something told me to give it another try. I feel that if I have insurance why should I have to come out of pocket. The first doc the first step is to go to the seminar then mail your paperwork then they'll call you, no complants there because they were super fast! But this second doc the semiar, paperwork. and the first doc visit and a few other things are all included so that way you don't have to go back and forth. I like that way the best. Tuesday Nov 7 is my appointment with the new doc I hope my insurance acts ok with this so that way I can get my surgery the begin of the year. I'll be back Tuesday night and let you know the outcome of my appointment.:scared:

I'll pray for you too! Do you think my insurance will make me do the 6 mnt thing? I started the diet pills with my doc in 1/2006 so I wonder if that will count? Who knows. There is always something that will slow us down. Stay positve. ~Carmille

PS, I forgot to ask you which humana do you have? I have KPPA ~Carmille

That really sucks, sorry to hear about that. I have humana too, why did they require 6 mnt diet? I changed my doc because the doc required $4000 upfront fee but the insurance approved mine as long as I went to the psych doc first. Iam going to a new doc on nov 7. Well see what the insurance is really going to do. I won't trust them until I see it on paper. Keep me posted on your insurance problems. Everything will work out for you, don't stress. Carmille

Is anyone out there from Kentucky?

Thanks for responding to my post so quickly! I love this web site because everyone cares about each other! Good Luck To All and keep me posted!~Carmille -
I am so confused now. I getting ready to give this whole lapband thing up and go back on diet pills. I have my first appointment with the surg on Nov 2. The nurse told me the first fee is $100. I was ok with that until I read my papers from the seminar about the total surgon fee is $4000! What Iam confused about is I thought she told me the insurance approved my surgery but I would have to go to a psyc dr first. Also the papers stated that the surgons aren't in any of the insurance networks so it seems to me that Iam going to have to pay $4000 upfront before the insurance kicks in and I just don't have that kind of money. Me and my husband just bought our first home last week and it needs alot of work. I was really looking forward having the lap band done but I don't see it in my future. Iam going to call the Dr office Monday and talk to them and if what Iam thinking is true then goodby lapband hello diet pills :faint: Is there anyone out there from Louisville Ky and seeing Dr Olsofka or anyone of them in that office? Its the weekend now and I'll have to wait.

$4000 upfront fee?????????
carmillejoanita replied to carmillejoanita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Yall! I called the Dr and insurance today. All the surgeons in my area are covered in my network but the dr I chose claims they don't accept out of network insurance for their phy fee of $4000. I don't understand what the hell that means. They accept the payment from the insurance for the surgery but you have to come out of pocket with $4000. The nurse there did advise me to call my insurance co, which that didn't help because they already told me what I already knew and they acted like dumb asses! So I broke down and canciled my appointment and call another dr here in Kentucky named Dr Mark Shina that office was the only one who would give me a straight anwser so I start all over again with the seminar but I believe they do everything the same day so I'll be there for 3-4 hrs. Basicly they don't charge a out of pocket fee the only thing you have to pay is the insurance co-pay $10 vs $4000 I'll take the co-pay! I did call some other dr's as well but they didn't want to give me any of that info without going to a semiar (which I don't care but hell, why not answer the simple question). I feel better knowing that I did find another dr and I didn't waist $100(of what I don't have) for the other dr and hopefully everything will work out for the best. I just want to thank yall for the support and advise and will keep yall posted. The seminar is Nov 7. Does any of yall see Dr.Shina? If so why is the seminar so long? Will I be able to see him the same day? Thanks ~Carmille -

Thanks for the advise, I needed it! I will call the dr, insurance co, and go onto lap-band.com and find out everything tomorrow. I didn't think to call the insurance. I'll keep yall posted. I have my heart set on this surgery and I know everything will work out for the best. Its not the insurance who is charging me its the dr because they aren't in any of the insurance networks. Thanks Again Carmille -

Iam new here but I've been reading the post for about 2 weeks now. I do have a question, I go to my seminar Monday Iam so excited! I want to tell everyone but learned that telling everyone will turn me against everything. People dont understand. Anyways, Iam 5'11 278 lbs with high blood pressure and depressed. Iam not happy with me and the way I look and its time to start feeling better about myself so I talked to my doc about the surgery. When I talk to my friends at work all they want to do is talk me against it. So Iam looking to find some new friends here. Iam from Louisville Kentucky just needed to ask is there anyone out there around my size that had the surgery? And if yes how are you? Don't get me wrong I want to talk to everyone but with me being tall (5'11 278lbs) would they consider me? Iam just so confused :help:

I havent had my band done yet but I do work with someone who had it done around a year ago. We had a pizza party the other day so I had a chance to watch her eat! Everyone got 2 large slices of pizza and a small side salad. My coworker didnt eat the salad and put the 2nd slice in a togo box. She cut the slice in little bites. She would chew chew and chew then ate another bite. Then the slice was gone. Basicly I ate my 2 slices and salad and she was still working on that one piece. While we were all talking she got up. I asked her when she came back how was it and she said she threw it up. She is in her 50's and has prior stomach problems before her surgery so I guess we can't compare but I tell you what Iam not going to eat pizza for a long time after my surgery. So the answer to your question is be carefull because some pizza is thick and if you do eat some eat thin crust. Hope that helped you out. Good Luck because I Love PIZZA too carmillejoanita

Julies, yes Iam here! The seminar went well. I knew everything they was talking about. I just sent in my paper work in today so hopefully I'll here something in a couple of weeks. I have some doubts but then I talk myself out of them. My friend from work is trying her best to talk me out of this because of our co-worker (that had the band) throwing up at our pizza party. I'll I have to say is don't eat pizza!!!!!!!!!!! I consider that thick bread. Keep in touch
