USED A WHOLE BOX OF TISSUES ON THE RIDE HOME!! 1ST Fill Disaster!!!
JudyDF replied to mskutz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow that is terrible. I also had my first fill day by Dr Michael Nusbaum (he is a saint) when I tell you did not feel a thing, he numbed the area first and 30 seconds later he said ok your done. I didn't even know he had done it! I think you need another docter that is criminal what he did to you. Obviously he does not know what he is doing. I live in NJ and this doc is the best he has been doing it for over 7 years with about 100% sucess rate. I would recomend him to anyone. Infact my daughter is also going to have the surgery done by Dr. Nusbaum. Best of luck to you and I hope you find a better surgeon... let me know what happens. -
banded in Mexico & need a fill dr. in central VA
JudyDF replied to smile4532's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can I ask what made you go to Mexico and how much did the docter/hopital cost. My daughter just got denied by her insurance company as her employer has a no weight loss surgery clause. I am trying to find other options for her. thanks -
can you get stuck on protien shakes?
JudyDF replied to kjd612's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to be on clear liquids for the first week after my surgery only jello, broth and tea no milk no fruit no protein shakes. I was banded on March 30th. Are you sure you can have fruit and the shakes already? -
I'm sitting here in work thinking I should have took the date off, I can't even concentrate.... my biggest fear is that I wake up from the surgery and find out that the surgeon could not put the band on for some reason! I wonder if that has ever happened to someone? I am on clear liquids today and I am hungry already... lol Md's office just called and the time is 12:30.....I will be a wreck by that time....Hope all goes well....................

OMG, I am a nurse and would never even dream of doing that to myself.....you are surely headed for major problems down the road if you keep this up.. There has to be a doc somewhere near you that can help you.. best of luck to you and finding a MD.

Thanks, and the best to you too! -
Hi, I am from Belmar not that far from you. Yes I am the one who got her interested in the surgery infact this Tuesday I am schduled for mine. My insurance is Qualcare so I got approved rather easily but she has Horizon who told her at first all she needed was precertification. So she went through the six months of doctors, testing etc. Then our Md called her insurance and that is when she found out about the no weight loss surgery clause. She can't even appeal since it is in her policy. She found out after the fact another employee was denied 2 years ago. I told her to find another job first they made her take a $10,000 pay cut to keep her job and now this. They are not very nice people to work for. I told her I would try and help her out money wise but it is just too expensive with the docter and the hospital. Their insurance policys change is May maybe with the new health care bill the company will not be able to put that clause in being it is preventative medicine.

I'm both excited and nervous at the same time. It took me about 2 years to work up the courage to do this. You really get a lot of different stories reading all the posts, some of them not too encouraging. Previously to reading the posts I think I assumed all the cravings would just go away but I realize now that is not the case and even with the band there is a lot of other work to do on my part. My husband is very supportive so I know that will help me a lot. Is there a good place to get suggestions as what to eat once you are off just the liquids? And just mainly drinking a lot of protein shakes, is that a good option?

My daughter just found out after going through 6 months of nutrional counseling and psych counseling that her employer had a clause in her policy denying weight loss surgery. Horizon told her she just needed precert and after six months was denied because of this wls clause. Does anyone know with this new health care bill will employers no longer be able to add this denial clause for weight loss surgery and if the clause is in policys can it be over-rided?

weight loss surgery clause
JudyDF replied to JudyDF's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes her BMI is 40+ she also has narcalepsy. When she first called Horizon she was told her surgery was covered she just needed pre-authorization. She went through the 6 months of nutritional conseling and psych conseling and was just waiting for the final approval. She then finds out her employer put a weight loss surgery denial in her policy apparently Horizon never picked up on this when they first told her ok. She is devasted to say the least.
