    So Upset

Okay, from a man's perspective....didn't you say that your mother is the one who told your in-laws??? So why are you so mad at your husband... It sounds to me like he was the one put on the spot, getting caught in a "lie" to his family. If they had already been told the truth by your mother, what is he supposed to say when confronted about it? They already know the truth...Make up and move on...
  2. I get that too...I usually make mine up about 30mins prior to needing to drink it..then I stick it in the fridge and let the foam settle down a bit before I drink it... I use the "walmart" brand whey protein...its pretty good...52grams of Protein per serving... you can drink one shake for Breakfast and get almost your entire amount of protein for the day...
  3. Maybe it would be a good idea to tell your boss about the surgery and the reason why you need that lunch time... I feel your pain. I am a Police officer and we don't have a specific time to eat. We eat when we have a slow period and those are almost always interrupted by a call for service and we have to leave half way through our meal to go take a call..It makes it hard to eat healthy so we usually resort to going through the drive-thru for meals...Once I get back to work next week, I'm going to have to work something else out...I will probably rely on Protein shakes during my work day and then eat actual food on my days off or in the evenings...

    Losing Weight Fast

I lost 32lbs my first week....I weighed 402lbs prior to surgery.
  5. I'm finishing up week 3 and have been on mushies for about two weeks now....I lost 20lbs the first week post op and then went on mushies and only lost 2lbs that week. I think alot of it had to do with the fact that I was eating Potato soup (put through a blender) like 3 meals a day; and I went back and looked and I was taking in almost 3 times the recommended amount of sodium everyday...so I think I was retaining some water...i went back to more liquids than mushies this week and have really been monitoring my sodium intake...I weigh in on Monday and will know one way or the other if my theory is correct...I think it is because I feel and can see a difference from last week... :tt1:

    Crockpot Mexican Chicken Recipe

That is a good meal...I used to make that before surgery, but I'd add a cup or two of rice in the bottom...the rice would soak up the salsa and would be awesome....although after the surgery, I'm not sure how the rice would go over...I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard that people have trouble eating rice after the band....
  7. Hello everyone, this is my first post. My name is John and I just got banded on Monday. I came home from the hospital last night and so far its not too bad. I have almost no pain except for the gas floating around inside me, but that should pass soon enough (I hope)...I did have a bit of trouble sleeping last night though. I started out in the recliner, but woke up about 3am with a sore butt...So I decided I'd try to get in bed for a bit. I am a stomach sleeper and it is very hard for me to sleep any other way...But I was able to get a few hours in bed on my side, which put a little pressure on my belly, but I feel it was worth it in the long run  I was able to put a long, body pillow against my stomach and kinda cuddle up with it, and this gave my belly a bit of support. I don't think I could do that all night long, but it sure felt good to be laying in my own bed again... Anyone got any suggestions on sleeping positions or anything that may be useful?

    Self Pay Costs???

I was a self pay because my insurance would have nothing to do with it... My surgery cost $16,500, which included everything to do with the surgery as well as a years worth of follow ups and fills...
  9. Okay, I am a little disappointed in the scale this week. I had huge losses the week before and after surgery. I had lost a total of 33lbs in those two weeks...today i went in just to weigh myself in and found that I only dropped 2lbs this week. I wasn't expecting another 20lbs loss this week, but I thought I'd hit somewhere between 5-10lbs...I've stayed on liquids and haven't cheated once, and for the entire week, I took in about 6500-7000 calories, which is just a bit more than i would have taken in in one day just a few weeks ago...I know a loss is a loss, but I was expecting a bit more bang for my buck this week. The only thing that I can think of is that maybe I'm taking in too much sodium with some of the Soups I'm eating and I'm retaining Water...I'm certainly not taking in too many calories...I'm under 1200 calories everyday... I just find it hard to believe I went from taking in 5000 calories a day before, to averaging about 1100 a day now, and only lost 2 lbs....It's gotta be water retention right? I just needed to vent...little frustrating...I'm going to start hitting the gym today, and I'm going to check some of the soups and stuff I've been eating to see what kind of sodium content they have...Wish me luck
  10. Coloradobanding - Thanks for the reply: I try not to get on the scale very often actually...as a matter of fact, the scale I have at home wont even weigh me yet....So I only weigh myself once a week or so...Even then I have to go to my dr. office to use their scale... I checked the amount of sodium I was taking in and i have been taking in about 2-3 times the amount that i should be. Since I've been on mushies and liquids, I've been eating a lot of Potato Soup and mixing it in the blender...its very filling and tastes good...but its got over 1500mg of sodium per can, and I was eating 2 and sometimes 3 cans a day...According to what I've read online, you should be getting between 1500-2000 per day...so I have definitely been over-doing the sodium...I'll try to cut that out this week and see what happens... I wasn't expecting huge loss again this week, but was expecting about a 5lbs loss this week based on the number of calories I took in...I used to eat about 5000 calories a day and I only took in about 6000 or 7000 for the whole week...

Bet you're sorry you voted for Obama now

It amazes me that everyone thinks they are going to end up with free healthcare now that this has happened...I overheard some people talking in the check out line at the store the other day about how when this health care bill passes, they are going to get free healthcare...I just had to shake my head...I wanted to say that, No, you're not going to get free healthcare...as a matter of fact, if you have healthcare, now you're going to have to pay a 40% tax on your premiums in order to pay for all the illegal aliens and welfare people to have free healthcare. And if you don't have healthcare because you simply don't need/want it, you'll be fined by the govt for not having it. And watch how many people get laid off because the govt is going to mandate that employers offer their workers healthcare, or they get fined $2000 per employee...Oh yeah, and don't forget the educational issues that were hidden in this bill..now it is illegal for you to get student loans through any other lender, except for the federal govt.... Every poll out there shows that a majority of the people in this country are NOT in favor of this bill, so how can the Dems say they are representing the people by passing this monstrosity? Its amazing... I only hope there is a True Conservative that runs in 2012. If there is a true conservative out there who runs, they will win because the American people are tired of this crap.

    Now they tell me....

The hair loss thing never bothered me because I'm already bald...lol...the no beef thing is a new one on me though...I've never heard of that. I've heard that it may be tough to eat for a while, but that was it... good luck...

    Whey Protein

I used the same stuff....One serving of that stuff, mixed with 1% milk, gives you 60 gram of Protein in one serving...Thats almost all the protein you need for the day. My doc says to shoot for 60-70 a day. so I always drink a protein shake for breakfast and get my protein out of the way; then I just eat/drink whatever I want the rest of the day and I don't really have to worry about the protein... Its good stuff...
  14. My wife is jealous....lol She has a BMI of 38 and doesn't qualify for the surgery, and is a little PO'd at me for all the weight i've been losing...She is very supportive, but I know she wants to have it done as well...If we can get her qualified for it, she will have it done also.
  15. Okay, I'm not quite two weeks post-op and starting this afternoon I have a pain in my stomach a few inches below my incision. It feels like a pulled muscle, but I'm worried it may be a hernia or something...I'm going to have to try and get into the Dr on Monday if it is still bothering me...anyone else have this?
  16. Obviously you need to find yourself a new doctor...Is there another doctor at that office that can see you?
  17. I financed it myself and it cost me $16,500...which sounds like a lot, but that covers everything...the surgery, the hospital stay, all the follow-ups and fills for one year... Really if you think about how much you normally pay for eating out every day, the payments will be fairly comparable. I used to spend $300-350 a month on eating out and now, I don't eat out at all...So that alone has covered the monthly payments...I don't know the exact amount because my wife writes out all the bills...but i know its 2-something a month... besides, I think that if you fork out the money yourself, and are making that payment every month, you're gonna think twice about cheating and will take it more seriously than if the insurance paid for the entire thing... I see people posting almost everyday about how they are cheating here and there and some of the things they say they are eating just makes me shake my head and think, "you're doomed..." I paid for this surgery out of my own pocket, so I feel like I will take it more seriously and work harder during those bad times where all you want to do is cheat... Just my opinion. :frown: Its something to think about..Good luck with whatever you decide.
  18. I've heard that it is completely normal...i am also 10 days post-op and have very little feeling of restriction. I do feel it when I eat/drink too much...its like a gentle reminder to stop what I'm doing...that's why I've decided to stay on the liquids until I get some fills...I am completely satisfied with it and I've dropped 32lbs so far, so I'm not about to screw that up by going back to solid foods until I have some fill there to keep me from going berserk with the food again...Once I get a fill or two, i will start eating solid foods again.
  19. I had a BMI of 64 and High BP, diabetes, arthritis, blah, blah, blah.....and my insurance still told me no...I finally decided to self-pay. I was able to finance the surgery and the payments are manageable..I used a company called CareCredit to finance it for me...maybe thats an option.
  20. I'm thinking I'm the black sheep here...I'm 10 days post op and I haven't felt hungry since the day before my surgery... even now that my stomach is healing up a bit, i am very satisfied after i eat. I've even let myself get "Full" a few times just out of habit; but I'm working on that... What is it that you are eating/drinking? Try the protein shakes... they always fill me up quite nicely...even during the pre-surgery diet...

    Treadmill VS Elliptical

I would go with the Elliptical because it is much better on the joints...I've got bad knees and can't do too much on the treadmill before they start hurting; whereas I can get on the elliptical and go for an hour or more and never feel the stress on my knees... The big but here is that If you plan to buy an Elliptical, you definitely want to spend more that just a few hundred bucks. To get a good Elliptical, that will hold up to steady use, you're gonna pay some good money...I bought mine a few years back and i believe I paid $900 for it. But I had to buy the heavy duty one because of my size. I got a cheaper one prior to that and it was broken within about 6 months...couldn't hold up to the weight...
  22. I just told people at my work that I had a Hernia repair..that way if I am having pain related to my incisions or something I can play it off as pain from the Hernia repair...So far nobody has said anything.... Its cheaper than a cruiser; but not quite as fun...
  23. I'm only a week out and a little worried about going back to food...i see a lot of people talking about eating salads....how does that work out with the band? I'd think that the lettuce would tend to get stuck...
  24. I am a week post-op and plan to stick with liquids until I start getting fills. I always lose big on liquid diets, so I'm gonna take advantage of the time and lose some weight and then when I start getting fills, I can pick it up from there...
  25. I went today for my one-week Post-surgery follow up with my doc. Said everything is healing up well and I have lost a total of 32lbs in the past two weeks...wow!! 12 lbs of that was my week-long pre-op diet, but 20lbs of it was in the last week...I feel great. It was a rough week at times, only getting about 500-800 calories a day most of the time, but it paid off...I finally got to the point where I could get in about 900-1000 yesterday and plan to keep it under 1500 a day...Which shouldn't be too tough since I was doing that before being banded. Even knowing the weight loss will reduce greatly here in the next week or so as I heal, it was a nice surprise when I got to the Dr and weighted in...I was so worried this wouldn't work and I was going to waste my money (I'm self-pay)... but it all worked out.. Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement and advice of the past week as well..
