I'm becomming increasingly nervous that this will happen to me. I have to admit, I cheated a couple times on the post-op diet. About two weeks in, I ate some solid chicken in my tortilla soup and some other things like that. The few things I cheated with I chewed insanely well until they were pretty much a powdery liquid in my mouth. I haven't thrown up, I haven't had acid, I haven't had anything stuck, but I've heard a slipped band can be asymptomatic. The only thing I have is that all the sudden last night I have an awful stabbing pain when I take deep breaths. The pain is located on my left side under my ribs. It feels like gas pain to me. How common is a slipped band and what is the likelihood I would get it? I know I was wrong for cheating on the diet, but I guess my head wasn't quite in the place I thought it was.

I ate organic baby food with no added sugar and honestly, the fruit flavors weren't bad at all, but the chicken/beef etc. were AWFUL! The kind I had was really high in proetin though so I ate it.

Hey guys, I just had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and everything has been going great. I'm down 20 lbs., I've been following the diet, I haven't thrown up, Pb'd or had any acid reflux. All the sudden today, I have a burning sensation in my throat. I've had acid reflux my whole life, but have never felt anything like this. All the websites I've read say acid reflux, but I've had no acid come up. Any ideas on what this might be? My doc is 6 hours away so I don't really want to drive unless it's necassary.

Why am I so scared of Slippage?!?!?!?
SBeth replied to LaurenT626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just recently banded and I totally understand what you're feeling! I started reading online statistics of complications and it was a bad idea! I feel great, so I think it's just post-surgery worries. Everyone else is right though, none of those are symptoms of band slippage so try hard not to worry! -
I've decided to keep a blog documenting my journey for those who are considering the surgery, but also so I may see my changes. I am curious if anyone else is doing this? If so, I would love to follow along with your blog! Please post! Mine is: New Beginnings

It has been quite the trial the past few months as I jumped through hoops for my insurance company and dealt with several serious medical issues along the way. However, I got the call today that my insurance company has APPROVED the surgery!!! :bored: I am ELATED! My surgery date is set for July 28th, I will begin pre-op the 15th. I could not be more excited! Any advice, tips, etc. from those who have had the surgery and been successful...would be great! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I would love to get together with you sometime. I am currently waiting for my insurance company to give the final approval and once they do I will immediately start the pre-op diet and go into surgery two weeks afterwards...I can't wait!!

My insurance required that I have 3 nutritional consults and several tests done prior to having the surgery...if I did these things, they would pay for the surgery. At first I was really frustrated because I just wanted to have the surgery and begin my journey. However, I have to say now that I am almost there, I am very very glad I have had these hurdles. Over time, questions have come up, I have done lots of research, I have listened to success and non-success stories. The company I am going through is called True Results, and they have taken extreme care to make sure I am 100 % prepared for the surgery and the after care. I say all of this because I can't help but wonder if the people who have not had success did not have such amazing preperational guidance. Maybe they weren't really told all of the ins and outs about the surgery and how to eat and what to eat. I pose this question because I am taking every bit of advice and knowledge my doctors are giving to me and I plan on following it verbatim, and I hope, I truly hope this surgery will work for me.

6 Months to Wait GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
SBeth replied to whiterabbit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally know how you feel! When I found out mine would be covered I wanted it done the next day, but I am having to wait 3 months. However, now that some time has passed I am SO glad I've had to wait! I feel so much more prepared now. Now I feel like the band will truly work for me. Take the time to learn and enjoy learning about how wonderful your new life will be! -
Thanks for the encouragement. And same to the both of you!

Hi! I live in Amarillo, and haven't had my surgery yet, I'm still in the pre-stage. However, I would love to be a part of your support, and maybe you can be a part of mine. I am organizing a support group in Amarillo so if you're interested and willing to make that drive you'd be more than welcome to join!

It has come to my realization that the more weight I gained, the more I let myself go. I stopped doing the things that helped build my self esteem and made me feel beautiful even with the weight. This past month has been excruciating...I have about a month and a half before my surgery and the wait is driving me insane!! All I can think about is I want to begin losing now! I want to feel better about myself now! So, I took my newfound realization and decided to make a pledge to myself... Though the weight loss will be a little behind, I can get back into my beauty routine and start feeling better now. Beginning today, I am going to ease back into taking care of the little things: having my nails painted, deep conditioning my hair and styling it every day, whitening my teeth, taking bubble baths, etc. While these things may seem petty and ridiculous, they aren't. These are simple ways for a woman to pamper herself and feel well. So these are the things I will be doing and I will look at them as preparation for my surgery, which will come in due time.

Hi all, I am waiting to have my surgery and have a lot of questions! This one is for those who have been banded for some time. I have really bad cellulite on my legs and I'm wondering if I lose a significant amount with the lap band will that go away, or will I still have pockets on my legs? REALLY wanting this stuff to be gone!

Hello - new here and curious
SBeth replied to Aquarius12459's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That makes sense. I have to say I understand where you're coming from. While I'm not adopted, my mom was very cruel about weight. She was overweight herself, and I guess didn't want me to be. At a very young age she constantly told me I was too fat for my age and needed to lose weight if I wanted to be normal. It caused a lot of issues for a long time. I saw a counselor for several years and was able to push past it. Now my mom is jealous I'm having the surgery. She keeps telling me it won't work for me, but I'm ignoring all of her negativity. It can make life much more difficult!! I haven't been assigned the pre-op diet yet, otherwise I would share the details with you. I pray you get the strength to move past your mothers negativity towards you to know you can do this! Best of luck, and feel free to PM if you ever wanna chat. :-) -

The pre-op liquid diet is intense, and not made as a sustainable weight loss plan. It's there to help get excess weight off your organs to make the surgery safer. I also take metformin and look forward to the day when I'm told my sugar levels are no longer off, my hormones are no longer off and I can stop taking that awful medicine. I'm still in the pre-op stage, but from what I've read and seen, the surgery has helped cure a lot of ailments, which is a large reason why I have chosen to have the surgery. For someone with diabetes, it's not such a bad idea to look in to. Good luck on your decision!:wink2: -
Did Your Doc Recommend Lap-Band After PCOS?
SBeth replied to Divis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This thread has been incredibly encouraging to me, as I too have PCOS. I have been struggling with it since I turned 16 and have had an awful go at it. I was afraid that PCOS would make my journey with this just as hard, if not impossible as all the other diets. I'm glad to know it has worked for several! -
What the heck?!?! Why do people say the things that they do?
SBeth replied to gingerjane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately I've been there too. I don't see any reason to hide getting the band, so I tell...well, pretty much everyone I know. The band is a tool, none of us expect it to do the weight loss for us. It sounds to me like your co-worker is one of those women who is fortunate enough to have her efforts pay off. Those of us getting the band are getting it, not because we haven't tried, but precisely the opposite. We are getting the band because WE HAVE tried, to no avail. What I've seen is that people who diet and exercise works for, don't understand why it doesn't work for everyone. The truth is, sometimes it just doesn't. Don't let your co-worker discourage you. You are doing the right thing, and you know it for yourself. If this seems to really keep bothering you, I would maybe sit down with her and tell her you appreciate her advice, however, if she's going to shell out the advice, she needs to know your history. Tell her what you've tried and how it didn't work and that you know you're doing the right thing whether she feels so or not. Good luck!! -
Hey everyone! I'm new to the site and really excited about this site! It seems like an amazing support group. I have two more months to go before my insurance will officially ok the surgery, and I can't wait. Looking to make some friends in the area who have had or are planning to have the surgery. I currently live in Amarillo, Texas, but travel all over. If there's anyone out there who would like a weight loss partner, let me know!

I guess I should find out what diet my doc is going to require. I've heard of a lot of people losing a pretty decent amount of weight off the pre-op diet. What's worrying me currently is the whole blood clot thing. I didn't know anything about it until I got on this website and all of the sudden people are talking about how they knew someone who died because they got blood clots from the surgery and not walking enough. I guess after surgery my butts going to be walking around the hospital first thing come hell or high Water.
