Getting my surgery May 10, 2010

Congratulations! My date is May 28, and I share your feelings!
  2. I use "Lose It" on my IPod Touch, and FitDay.com for most of my journaling.
  3. If you could maintain a pre-op diet through all you went through this weekend, you can do anything! what an inspiration you are about that! I'm so glad your son is OK, but he's probably going to have some major issues about the accident. I can't imagine the stress and tension you were under! And you maintained your diet! Way to go!!!
  4. Finally, I have my date- May 28!!! Thanks to one and all who have been such a support to me here!
  5. We can only do things when we are ready for them! You sound READY! Welcome to the board!

    Constipation ruining my life.

A combination of Miralax and Metamucil Clear & Natural works wonders for me, in addition to a diet full of veggies and fruit. I have a history of such severe constipation.

    I don't care attitude

Great combination of feedback on this thread- empathy, stress management, and practical "get a fill"! Not much I can add except: keep your feet moving in a workable direction! HungryAngryLonelyTired- the HALT syndrome, which gives the warning: Slow down, remember to BREATHE, and then do the right thing. Simple, not easy!
  9. I had a great day yesterday! A NSV, but it had nothing to do with my own weight or size. I have a stepson who has refused to have anything to do with me for the last year and a half, and he came with his wife and 4 wonderful grandchildren to spend the day with us. We all just let a lot of old baggage go, and it feels so good! Cold and rainy today. Oh well. The elliptical it is. Truly thanks for the cheers and support!

    How many of you.....

Great list of must-brings! Anyhow, I have to stay overnight. Oh well, at least I have my date of May 28th!
  11. Uh oh- gotta do another :wub:Youse guys are so wunnerful!
  12. my3sons, I share your frustration and impatience- I've had my surgery delayed a couple of times for different reasons, and at first I was so aggravated! I got aggravated again yesterday when first they called me with a date of May 21, then called back 10 minutes later to tell me it would be May 28! I've been working at this since last August. I've been using the time to practice the new eating behaviors and exercise. I think having a good relationship with an experienced doctor is very important, and a month isn't going to make much difference in the grand scheme of things. I'd want to know how and by whom fills are done, and what the other personnel in the office are like. What does the office offer for support? Questions like that are the ones I would be asking in order to make my decision. No, I wouldn't want to be part of an assembly line, but I do value experience, skill and good support.

    And this my journey begins...

I've been at the process for seven months now, and just got my date for surgery yesterday- May 28. Things were delayed for a couple of reasons. I've used the time to practice the skills I will need, as well as do as much research as I can. I'm pretty much eating a banded diet now, and I'm exercising daily. I figure what I lose now is less on the other end!

    I actually did it!!

Congratulations, April! I'm scheduled for May 28. So far I've lost 12 pounds in preparation.

"Lose It!" works for my IPod Touch. I don't know if it would work on a Samsung.

    How about this?

    How many of you.....

I will be staying overnight because I'm older, and also because I too have problems with anesthesia. I hate the hospital- I would much rather go home. Maybe I can talk my doc into it...

    Looking for May Bandsters

How about May Magnificents? Someone else who is more computer savvy than me can come up with a banner!
  20. Yay Christie! No more rear end and just plain 'ol ordinary! Not bad at all!!! Leigha, I'm glad things are going better for you and hope your fill puts you at the apparently elusive sweet spot. Denise, I like your way of eating- thanks for sharing it. I'll probably end up doing something similar. Right now, and for awhile yet I'll be measuring and journaling just to educate myself. I'm still shocked at how little I've been and will be eating. I can't wait for the hunger pangs to be minimized! Dottie, congrats on your dr's visit and him high-fiving you- certainly different than your last visit! Thanks, all for rooting for me! Bobbie, are you hanging in? Thanks for walking into doors for me- I guess I better be doing the same for you! Jackie, way to go with your 5k's! I can't imagine running a block at this point, but I'm a good walker. So I guess I better pack in the protein around surgery time whether I feel like it or not, huh? Karen, congrats on your 6 month bandiversary! Hope your fill works out for you. Leigha, glad things are going better, and your scare was just a scare. shadst8, I hope you've found restriction. Stacie, I hope both your cold and stress level are better. Betsy, thanks for your sharing and the excellent looking recipe. I think we lost Bob to the Farm. Me, I'm doing okay over here, still practicing. Won't be long until it's the real thing- I hope I hope!
  21. Kookaburra, I would lay my life on you having the same qualities. I guess when we reach out we don't always get what we're looking for, and I'm sorry I didn't understand that better with you. I think weight issues often involve people who are very sensitive, and that that is a big part of the emotional issues with the weight struggle. I still after much work on them deal with issues of deep pain and betrayal, and eat to comfort myself. For me, a problem piece of losing weight is that it makes me feel like I am making myself vulnerable again to that pain. I need the support, but asking for it makes me risk feeling all rejected and hurt again. The dilemma of weight loss... At any rate, thank you for your clarifications of where you were coming from. I'm glad you intend to stay involved with this board. For me, it helps me deal with the "now" rather than the "then" with people who are sensitive and empathetic. This thread is a wonderful example of that. Thank you.

    I'm just not sure...

I have had a similar story of delays, and it is discouraging, but I'm hanging in there. At this point I'm hoping for latter May, but have a couple of new hoops to jump through and still don't have insurance approval or a date. May we keep our eyes on the goal!

    the first step

Welcome to the board, karmaandkismet! I think you will find lots of information and experience on the board- I know I have. It is helpful having a supportive husband, but not essential. You might want to ask him what he's afraid of if you get the band and lose weight. Anyhow, I wish you courage with this journey. I'm still in the pre-op phase myself, just waiting for approval and a date.
  24. Kookaburra, thanks for your last post. It makes it clear the power of assumptions, both pro and con. I've found your thread to be thought-provoking and useful, because it deals with core issues and behavior for those of us in a weight struggle. I'm so sorry if this discussion put you off getting the lap-band! I'm sure none of us meant to be non-supportive; quite the contrary! In dealing with myself, I find a combination of both empathy and tough love to be the most effective, and this thread has exemplified that. Have you considered going ahead with the lap-band and getting therapeutic and/or coaching support at the same time? I find that getting answers to my "why" questions the least helpful with behavior change; it's the "how" and "when" questions that are the most helpful with my own behavior. Perhaps the combination of all 3 questions is where the power is. At any rate, I wish you both courage and empathy with your journey!
