    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Hi Bandsters, So - it is 9 days post surgery and am really feeling great! I went to the doecot on Thursday and all seems to be going well. We (all those who had surgery the same day) spent about an hour and a half in a nutrition class. It was very informative. I had no pre-op diet and was on a liqiuid diet until yesterday. Yesterday was my first day on the mushy diet. It consists of 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day with 2 optional 1/4 cup Snacks (same food as eaten during meals. I love the part skim ricotta with a bit of tomato sauce. Luckily - they also alow eggs and watermelon in this stage. I will be on this phase until next Saturday when I can add alot more. So - I am going to have to learn to read my body. They say to eat the 1/2 cup or until you feel full. I don't feel full, but a half an hour, or an hour later feel VERY full. They say to make the meal last for 1/2 an hour, but considering that you are eating only 1/2 cup - this is almost impossible. So - the weight loss is going really well - down 19 pounds in 9 days. I cannot believe it. I joined a gym and have begun walking - up to half an hour. Hope all is going well for the early March surgeries. Starting Weight - 350 Current Weight - 331 Goal Weight - 200

Hi Finding Me, I had the same exact worries - as a matter of fact, I had put off this surgery for 3 years because of my irrational fear - and I am in the medical profession! It went a lot easier that I expected. Two of the things that I did on my own pre-op to curb my fears were the following - I went to my MD for a stress test, and I set up an appointment to meet the anestheologist. The stress test made me realize that even though I was very over weight, my heart was healthy. Meeting the anestheologist also calmed me knowing how many bariatric cases she had done (one on an individual at 700+ pounds) knowing what exactly to expect and what drugs were going to be used. It was much easier than I expected. I know how hard it is to quell your fear, but it will be okay. Good Luck! Cynthia

Hi Guys, Post op day 4 and doing great. I really cannot believe how lucky I have been since I have only had minimal pain. Didn't even open the RX bottle for pain, nor felt the need to even take tylenol. I had taken off the week since I have a fairly physical job - am alittle bored! I am on the week one liquid diet - been drinking Water, crystal light, a bit of broth, and some hot tea. I am amazed at the full feeling only drinking 1oz every 15 minutes. I now know that about 6 small sips equals an ounce! Who knew?! I have lost a lot of water weight - 10lbs (didn't have a pre-op diet). I am amazed at the energy I feel - I thought that I would be SO tired not taking in any nutrients, but it is just the opposite! Yesterday I went and checked out the 5 local gyms. Through a process of elimination, I found one that seems will fit me well. It is a little smaller and is associated with a physical therapy group and therefore had people of all shapes, sizes and ages. I went on the treadmill for 20 minutes at 2.5mi/hr. Not too bad! The treadmill was pretty cool with a TV hook up for headphones and a fan! Who knew - obviously not me!!! Thursday is my follow up with my surgeon. I am VERY excited! Love this board - you guys are great!!! Cynthia START WEIGHT(3-5) - 350 CURRENT WEIGHT (3-9) - 340 GOAL -200
  5. No preop diet - banded on Friday 3/5 - down 9 pounds of obvious water weight. Boy my ankles look good! HA HA!
  6. Just had my surgery yesterday and ready to start the rest of my life. Surgery was much easier than I expected!:smile2:
  7. Ok - you guys are much more advanced on the computer than I am - how did you get the post surgery ticker on the bottom of your post. Would love to be able to post my progress! Cynthia

Hi! Just had my surgery yesterday. I originally started the process in July, but had to do 7 months of doctors visits to get approval. In the end, I think that the 7 months helped me get mentally ready. The surgery went really well and was MUCH easier than I ever expected. Surgery time was 7:30 and I left the hospital by 4pm. I am drinking my liquids - 1oz every 15 minutes. Pretty boring, but I am not hungrey! I filled my pain RX, but never felt the need to take any meds either at home or at the hospital. I slept quite well last night. Today I am a little sore, but I was able to go to my daughter's basketball game and felt fine. I took next week off from work - don't know what I am going to do with my time since SO much of it was spent at meals! I told my husband that I am not going to cook for the next few weeks - I think that is pretty fair! Good luck to those who are still waiting for your surgery - I am very excited to go through this journey with all of you! Cynthia:smile2:
