  2. Banded 3/8/10 - lost 111 - 49 to 74 to go
  3. Hi There! I started with a BMI of 53. It was reccomended to me to also have the bypass, but felt uncomfortable with that surgery and my surgeon agreed to support me with the band. I had my surgery 3/10/10 at 360 (5'9" 44 year old female) with no pre-op diet. One year later I was down almost 100 pounds and then went to a total stall and did not loose anything for 3 months. The scale is now moving downwards and I am down to 249 (-111lbs). It has not been easy and there are ups and downs. Will I ever be skinny? I do not know - but I came into this journey with very realistic expectations. I wanted to be off all meds (High Blood Pressure, Nexium), be healthy (I now walk 2 miles a day and nolonger huff and puff with regular life activities) be able to shop in a regular sized store (not there yet, but down from a 34 to a 20/22) and just feel better about myself. My goal for now is 200 but would really like to get down to 175. Can I do it - you bet - can you? - 100%! Good luck and enjoy the journey!

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Hello March 2010 Girls and Guys, Been FOREVER since I have been here, but decided to come back and say hello to everyone who is here and see how everyone is doing. It has been a year and 4 months since my surgery - down from 360 to 253 - 107 pounds! I was loosing steadily but came to a complete standstill from about February to a few weeks ago. Mostly my fault - had not been walking and was in need of a fill which I kept putting off - could eat way too much. Well - went in for an adjustment 2 weeks ago and resumed walking and feeling great and the numbers are going down again Even though I am still quite heavy - life has changed so much. I can walk, bike ride, fit in an airline seat, keep up with the kids! Down from a size 34 to a 20! How is everyone doing? Please post! Cynthia

    Christmas Challenge

I am in - thanks for setting it up!!! I love these challanges - they keep me honest and I love the spreadsheets! Good luck to all!!!
  11. Hi Nan, I was banded on 3-5-10 and would be happy to go along the journey with you. I am 45 years old and at 5'9" my pre-op weight was 350 pounds, with a BMI of 52. This week will be my 8 month "banderversary"! I am currently down 93 pounds and absolutely love my band. It is deffinitly a journey and takes a lot of work. I think it is also different for those of us who started with SO much to lose and not being 20 years old any more!!! I will be happy to go through what has helped me so far. What is going on with you? In the begining it is very difficult before you reach restriction. What is called "bandster hell" here on the boards is oh so true. When is your first fill? WHat size band do you have? You can either message me here, or if you would like on my email. cynpatt@yahoo.com Looking forward to hearing from you. Cynthia
  12. I try to NET between 800-1,000. That usually means 1,200 eaten minus 200 with exercise. Working so far!!!
  13. Hit the 90 pound mark - in 7 and 1/2 months! I LOVE MY BAND!!!! YEAH!!!!!!! Still have 60 to go, but I am SO happy and wanted to share. Hopefully will be able to share in the 100 pound loss thread before the end of the year.
  14. Congrats! Way to go!!!! You just made me look - me too!!! I am obese!

    90 Pounds Lost

Hi Cynthia (love the name !), I think a lot of different factors have helped me along my path with this journey. First off - I have a lot more to lose than many on these boards. I started at 350lbs at 5'9". My goal weight is between 160-200 (the high number is my goal, but I would like to reach the lower number in reality. When I started 150 loss seemed like a crazy number, but 190 to lose seemed like a number I could never reach. Well - now I am beginning to eye that 160 number!Sorry for that diversion, but the more you have to lose, the quicker it comes off. Another factor is that I did not have to follow a pre-op diet - therefore it did come off quicker in the beginning. As far as restriction and my diet. I have a 14cc band and have had a fill almost every 4-6 weeks since I was banded. (2.5cc,2.5,2.5,.5,.5,.5) to a total of 8.5cc. Not until my last 2 fills did I feel any restriction at all. I did not feel any hunger after my 2nd fill but I was able to eat anything I wanted as far as types of food and amounts. Let me say - I was never a sweets, chip, snacker (not that I didn't eat that if it was around), but it was not what I craved. I was a huge volume eater (3 McDonald's Breakfast sandwiches in the am etc. throughout the day. So the band therefore was the appropriate surgery for me. I was very specific with my surgeon and nutritionist pre- surgery that I didn't only want to eat veggies and dry Proteins, and Protein shakes for my entire life, rather that I wanted to eat like a "normal" person just with smaller amounts. From day 1 that is what I have done. My typical daily diet consists of a duncan donuts iced coffee with splenda and skim mild and a "wake up wrap" from dd with egg whites and cheese (150 cal), lunch is a lean cuisine (300cal) and dinner is a bit of whatever the family is having (usually a protein). I try to keep my net calories as advised by my MD less than 1000 cal by day. I track EVERYTHING I eat on lapband.com it is a great website and a great tool. I go out to eat 2-6 meals on the weekend and just limit myself to 1-2 cups of food. Now that I have restriction it is much easier. As far as exercise - I hooked up with a walking buddy (2 actually) and we walk 2-3 miles 4-5 times a week. Have done this since day 1. We don't walk that quickly (3mi/hr), but I am convinced that it has really sped up my loss. Lastly - I have gotten a lot of support. My husband and kids watch me like a hawk and my mom is my number 1 supporter. I am on these boards everyday - (2-3 times daily) and participate in every challange posted here! I go to my MD every month to be weighed in even if I don't plan on getting a fill. I go to my monthly support group every first Thursday of the month. I have told everyone about my surgery, so there is no hiding it. None of it is rocket science - I wish I could have done all these things without my band, but after 45 years, I know I couldn't. Why can I do it this time - it is in the end because the band really can work if you let it. Don't give up. I hope I said something that might help. Please keep in touch - I will help support you anyway I can! Yours, Cynthia
  16. I am in! I just joined the Thanksgiving day challange and am almost finished with the Halloween one! I am currently at 262 and would love to get down to 242! Wow - that looks like such a small number!!!!
  17. Amanda, I promise you that it is no big deal. I always make things worse in my head than they really are - sounds like you are probably the same way. If I had to compare it to something, I would say the pinch is about the same as when they draw blood and less discomfort than when I just got my recent flu shot. As far as how you will feel afterwards - everyone is different. I did not feel any different after my first 3 fills, mainly because I have a bigger band (14cc) and my MD went gradual with the fills. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Congrats on your weight loss so far!! Cynthia
