Hey I was sleeve April 8...I am down 57 pounds...from 210...I am losing hair...lots of it...but I have a lot and try not to think about it too much. My hairdresser told me that she could see little hairs growing back...but it is weird...being a size 12 from 18 is wonderful and makes me not think about my hair much...I feel great...my weight loss is very slow now and my doctor told me it would take awhile to get to 140...my ultimate goal...for example I lost 3 pounds this past month...all in one day...and nothing else...so my body is settling into a new phase and my BMI is normal so things are slower...I'm thrilled...honnestly sometimes my head misses eating big sandwiches but soon it is replaced by joy at having some control in my life and my health back...SEAVIEW

Sugared drinks or non sugared help!
seaview replied to Vicki's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no sugar now or for the duration of your weight loss phase.... you are weak from surgery but you also need to be dieting... only protein and very low carb....under 40 grams a day.. the weakness will gradually go away and you will start eating soft foods and feel better. Hang in there. SEAVIEW -
acid can feel like hunger so I think you should take your prilosec again and see if your hunger subsides....just my two cents....SEAVIEW. no you cannot stretch your sleeve ....
-
It was once suggested to me that the hunger signal might actually be acid in your stomach. Do you take an antacid...Pepcid? I had to take it for a few weeks after surgery..then stopped and my stomach didn't feel right...so i started again and feel fine...so it may be acid that's getting confused with hunger...SEAVIEW

Will craving junk food stop with sleeve?
seaview replied to davidblackmisty's topic in Food and Nutrition
Tiff, Thanks for your wise words....as I get closer to goal I worry about how to LIVE with this sleeve and with my still ailing brain that wants to eat when it wants to eat....I am probably going to go see someone to work on some specific food triggers which I have....which of course have not gone away with the surgery.. but yeah....thanks for your post...SEAVIEW -
Quality of life after sleeve
seaview replied to 4romatl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Battling a binge eating disorder my whole life and loosing the battle at 50 with 70 extra pounds on me ...I had surgery....best decision EVER......it was hard at first...post surgery recovery...tired...adjusting to different eating...the surgery was scary before ..yes...but went great....If i wanted to I could eat anything I wanted but just in MUCH smaller portions....I have no appetite...4 months out...hunger is a different signal now...it's more like I feel weak and need to eat....you can't eat anything you want because you have to lose weight...so you are on a diet but it's easy....with excercise and comitment you WILL lose the weight...for the first time in my life I am succesful and don't feel the fear that I won't get to my goal....I cannot binge even if I want....a quarter of a bagel and cream cheese and I'm done....I mean DONE...can't fit more in...I still need to deal with the reasons why I binged..that's not gone...nor is the emotional need to eat...but I am learning to deal with that and I do other things now instead of eating to relived stress...like excercise....No question..best decision ever...two kids...husband...they are proud of me and hug me and fit their arms all the way around..and then some...doesn't get better than that....remember...NO RISK...NO REWARD.....that's life....SEAVIEW -

Stomach Chemistry 101 OR why plain water may be upsetting your stomach
seaview replied to iowagirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So since I went off my Prilosec I CAN drink water...I didn't make the connection...thanks for your post...I'm not sure I understand it...but nevertheless it sounds like there is a scientific reason that I can drink water now...SEAVIEW -
I'm a binge eater..emotional eater...it's a lifelong habit and I am recognizing the need to deal with it...I have gotten a book about cognitive behavioral therapy for binge eaters...and I am reading it...I am trying to work on my food addiction issues... i have never really been treated for this and this is my issue with food...i 've gone to OA....therapy etc...but now i have this tool and an ability to loose weight but I have to work on my head too....so that's where i'm at...and I excercise like a madwoman which I hope will become my new addiction...even if i never gain weight again i will continue to live in torture if I don't find some peace with my food issues...Seaview

I am doing great...working out like a beast! that is the weight loss ticket! drinking enough liquid is my challenge...but the weight loss is good. from 210 to 165 since april 8...looking at getting down to 145 or lower depending on the doctor's orders...feel wonderful this summer...wearing spaghetti straps...not feeling overheated all the time...it's still hard work to keep on keeping on with this...but I don't know how else to eat now...it's weird..I have certain foods that I eat and that's it...a bit boring really... but it's great...someone said to me the other day in life if there's no risk there's no reward..I immediately thought of my sleeve surgery...without taking that risk I would not be here...nor would any of us...yay April Sleevers... Totally back to normal
seaview replied to Mommyof4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Momma, The first month is HELL...you will feel like you are starving..because you are recovering from major surgery without any real food to get you back on track.Once you start eating soft solids you will feel better...but not completely. It will take until you are really getting solids in there and all your protein and liquids for a long time to feel completely great. THen you will love your sleeve. It took me three weeks to feel normal and somewhat not starving. your sleeve is fine and you will experience not having appetite. But right now your body is weak and wants food...just get through this phase and then you'll feel fabulous. It's weird to have the first month be the worst.Even worse than pre surgery diet..but once you're through youll do great. Hang in there.Seaview -

a lot of sleevers develop a lactose intolerance. I did . I found out because milk made me get diareah (sp?) and since I do not drink milk anymore or at least i only drink lactose free milk my stomach's been fine..so that's my two cents. Try cutting back on caffeine and getting rid of the milk....Good Luck...Seaview

tomorrow = 4 weeks post op and tonight was the first night having salmon
seaview replied to Lillie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah it's not only the chewing though...it's getting too full...and sometimes the sleeve gets irritated I think and you have to back off the solids a bit and do mush again for awhile or liquid. I do that sometimes...it's a work in progress.. SEaview -

seaview replied to Lillie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 weeks out and still get pain in my shoulder if I eat too fast or swallow too much at once. It has to do with getting too full. Cut back on how much you are eating and stop before you're full...also chew until it is completely watery in your mouth. It's a real challenge for all of us I think. When I am too hungry I forget and I suffer...but lost 40 pounds so far...wooot woot..it's worth it.. Seaview -

What surgery can i tell people i've had instead of telling them about the sleeve?
seaview replied to jemmacahill's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey I told people I had to have a hyatal hernia repaired. It's a hernia in your aesophagus that causes GERD. Acid reflux.. Then I told them that I had to be on liquids until my stitches healed..my aesophagus stitches...and then I told them that my doctor was concerned about my weight and put me on an all liquid protein diet.It seems to have convinced people. My family and close friends know. Hyatal hernias are fixed in the same way...arthroscopically. So it made sense to tell them that. And I did have that procedure done with my VSG. I think it's best to lie to the majority of the world and make it a good one. That way those people won't always be watching you. It's too freaky for me to feel like others are watching my progress from afar. Especially people I am not close to. That's my two cents. Seaview -
I'm sleeved and I'm home !!!!!
seaview replied to BandMomsRock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations Band. So glad you're doing well. Can't wait to catch up with you in the chat room. Seaview -
Tiffy, families are so weird! You look fabulous...and you know the minute you are pregnant they'll all say.."now Tiff watch you don't gain that weight back" LOL...you cannot win when it comes to this weight loss journey. People do not like it when others change....it is a threat to the status quo and that is particularly true in families...just trust us...and your husband and friends...you are beautiful...Seaview

Just a rant- John Goodman-
seaview replied to citygal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think Jillian is full of it..I don't believe she was ever fat.She talks a good line but where are her fat photos. If anyone would want the world to see how she "overcame" being fat by proper diet and excercise it would be her. But just like Richard Simmons we have seen NO fat photos at all...She is a total fake and she may be inspiring to others but she cannot say she's been there. Seaview -
9 weeks out...stalled a bit in weight loss but I can begin to see my collar bones and the clothes are loose...I realize how much i still have to lose and get discouraged a bit...I have trouble with eating too fast...but i work on it. I go to the gym 5 days a week...can't bring myself to go on weekends. Excercise actually helps with my energy and lessens my head hunger. All in all it's good...just doesn't feel as magical as before...it's much more like work...it took a long time to gain it and it's gonna take some time to lose it.. Seaview

I'll tell you something. I lost 30 pounds so far and have lost half a shoe size. This is due to less weight bearing down on my arches and therefore my foot isn't as long so the thing about pressure on your joints is true.Good luck with everything.Seaview
