I have used the designer whey protein before, and the only thing it was good for was putting fruit smoothies. Otherwise I thought it was terrible!!

how long with no food
Purrplelover replied to Stacey627's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post-op diet is one week full liquids, two weeks pureed and soft food, and the Solid Foods after that. I am day two and finding that I am forcing myself to eat in order to get any form of calories in. I would be content at this point just to have water. -
My doc says no more soda, period! He said the carbonation in the soda can stretch out your pouch. So from here on out, I am soda free!!

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
Purrplelover replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery yesterday, April 14th. I couldn't sleep the night before, so I did not fall asleep until 1am on the 14th. Then I woke up at 4:30am, a full hour before I was supposed to be. I got my shower and washed with Antibacterial soap. Then I put on a clean pair of Pajama bottoms and a shirt. They are very comfy and I knew they would not put pressure on my stomach. At 6am I kissed my kids and hubby goodbye and told them they would see me after school. We arrived at the surgical center at 6:30 on the dot. I walked in, gave them my name, address and phone number. They put the bracelet on my arm and told me to have a seat, that someone would be out to get me soon. About two minutes later a nurse came out and took me back to the room. My mom stayed in the waiting room for this part. When they took me back, they asked me all sorts of questions. They asked about allergies, what meds I was taking, what I was having done that day, and if I had any concerns. I said I didn't. Then I changed out of my pajamas in to a stylish hospital gown, footies and hairnet. Then they started an IV with Fluid only. At this point they went out and brought my mom back. Then they gave me a heparin shot in my R thigh. Then the Anesthesiologist came into the room and asked me about allergies, prior reactions to anesthesia, asked if there was anything removable in my body and looked in my mouth. As soon as he was done questioning me, my surgeon walked right in. He asked how I was feeling and if I had anymore questions. I said no. Then he said, that is OK then, so we will start getting you ready. They put a scopolamine patch behind my right ear, and had me walk to the OR. When I got in the OR the nurse undid the gown in the back and told me to sit on the bed, then lie down with my head on the round pillow thing. Then they put a couple of pillows under my feet. After they did that, they moved a board up to where it kept my feet flexed. Then they put the little massage booties on my. While they were doing that, the anesthesiologist was putting leads on my upper body. Right around this time, they put a mask over my face and told me to take deep breaths. I got a total of 4 breaths in before I became unconsious. Then next thing I remember was being in a recliner in the post op room. The nurse asked if I was in pain and I said YES!!! Rated the pain as a 10/10. It was only the incision in my belly button that hurt, but oh man did it hurt!! They gave me some fentanyl and it took down some of the pain. Of course I went right back to sleep too!! I remember waking up again and complaining of a dry mouth and being in pain again. They gave me some ice chips and some more fentanyl. I managed to stay awake this time. Then very shortly after they had me scoot forward in the chair to make sure I wasn't going to be sick, and that I wasn't dizzy. I was still out of it, but I was able to do everything they asked. They then told me to get dressed, and that they would be right back in. I got my clothes on, and they brought me 2 prefilled doses of Roxicet and told me to take both of them. ICK!! But I have now come to love it!! I took a few sips of apple juice, and they put me in a wheel chair and wheeled me out of the hospital to my mom's car. I was home by 10:40 in the morning. I stayed on my meds every four hours, and I am continuing that now too. I found out that they also repaired a very large hernia while he was in there. I have been walking the perimeter around my yard every hour and a half for four laps. It makes me feel better when I do this. I am doing Ok now, just REALLY sore!! -
Wow!! Great Job!! I can't wait until I can post the same thing!!

Hey ladies! I am glad everyone came through alright. I was able to walk around my house about every three hours yesterday. I am aiming for every hour, hour and a half today. I did 4 laps around each time. It makes me feel when I am walking. Changing positions from lying to sitting, sitting to standing etc. is hard. It hurts my incisions the most. I am deep breathing like we are supposed to but it hurts cuz it causes me to cough, which I know is good for me, so I just continue to brace my stomach when ever I do. I was able to sleep in my bed last night which was great, I just had to keep my knees bent. I woke up a few times, but was able to go back to sleep. I am still living with my liquid roxicet every 4 hours, and hoping I can start decreasing the amount soon. Surgery itself was good. I went in at 6:30, they took my right back and started of with some paperwork, my wrist bands put on, they started an IV. I love the nurse that did my IV, she got it right in!! They started liquid in the IV. Then I met the anesthesiologist, the CRNA, the nurse who would be in there with me, and the doctor. Then I walked back to the operating table, got up on it, and then things started to go real fast. They put some stuff in my IV, put two pillows under my knees, then they moved this board up to my feet. They put the little compression things on my legs. The next thing I know They have a mask over my face, telling me to deep breath. I took 4 breaths and that is all I remember. I woke up in the recovery about an hour later. They gave me some fentanyl cuz the incision in my belly button was hurting so bad. I got two doses of fentanyl, and a double dose of roxicet. Then they started to give me ice chips, water and apple juice. After I was able to tolerate a few sips of each of those they had me move to the edge of the chair to make sure I wouldn't get sick. I did that just fine. Then immediately after I could sit on the edge of the chair they said I could go home. I got dressed and had my mom bring me home. It was great. I got there at 6:30, had sugery at 7:30 and was out by 10:15. -

I am back!! According to my doctor, everything went great. He repaired a LARGE hernia. Said I should be very happy with that, but cause it was what was causing all of my heartburn. I am sore at my port site, and not so much on my left shoulder. It is not too bad. I am tired, but I am doing well, had some V-8 juice and a sugar free popsicle. I will update more when I am not so tired!! -

I am getting so excited and nervous all at the same time. I have never had surgery before, but thanks to all the stories on here I kind of know what to expect. I have made sure to pack my day full of activities so that hopefully it will it fly by! I have to work today from 8-4:30, come home, edit my paper that is due tonight by midnight, and then I am off to see Mary Poppins. It is the broadway adaptation they are playing here. Then it is off to bed. I hope and pray that I can sleep!! -

Two more days!! I can't wait!! I hope it continues to go by fast!! What all are you bringing to the hospital with you? I am just bringing gas-x strips, a pillow, my i.d. and my insurance card!! I am going to go ahead and just wear my pajamas because they are the most comfortable thing I have, and they definetly don't put pressure on my stomach!! -

So, as far as the pre-op diet goes, I have figured out that the first three days suck and so do the LAST three days!! I am officially going crazy!! I am not hungry, the protien shakes are taking care of that, but man, I just really want FOOD!!! I don't care what kind of food, as long as it is food, oh, and warm, I want warm food!! I am sick of icy Chocolate protein shakes!! (I do have vanilla shakes, but no matter what I do to them, I gag.) Oh well, I have made it this long, I can make it three more days!! What time are my April 14th ladies set for surgery? Mine is at 7:30am!! -

From what I can tell, most surgeons will fix the hernia in to put the lap-band in place. -
