    Omg! it's really happenin'!!!

My doc says it only takes an extra 2-3 minutes but most surgeons don't take the time to do it...sad that they don't realize it helps their patients so much! My doc is so down to earth, hasn't let his credentials go to his head! The best part is I'm at 288 this a.m.!!! Have only been walking to shop and to loosen up a bit.
  2. I'm on my way to the city to stay overnight. Surgery is tomorrow @ 9 a.m.! It's snowing and there is a blizzard warning. My step daughter hurt her foot at school, my boyfriend had a late drs appt putting us on the road late, and I feel like I'm getting a sore throat. I hope God isn't trying to tell me not to do this... We got here safely and I'm excited to have my last thing of yogurt and Protein shake for supper. I've lost 15 lbs on my pre op liquid diet and feel my sciatic pain getting better. I drank my magnesium citrate at noon and had my first ever experience with poop pouring out of me.. but my colon is clean for surgery! Lol

    5 days POST op!

Ok, so during my two week liquid diet I planned to log what was going on with me every day, but then my boyfriend ended up going to the hospital and I had such horrible sciatic pain I couldn't sit in this chair at my desk! It was horrible, BUT I made it to Feb 1st, SURGERY DAY and it was WAY EASY and turned out alot better than I thought it could ever be! My doc took out MOST of my gas before sewing me back up and I felt GREAT! The nurse in the recovery room asked me to rate my pain and I kid you not, (still can't believe it myself) I told her ZERO!!! I woke up sleepy, but really didn't feel a THING! I feltl like I was just in that pre op recliner kissing my boyfriend "good bye for now". I am also SO relieved that only after 2 nights home I was able to sleep on MY STOMACH last night!!! I have not taken pain meds since the day I left the hospital either! I just am tired, but since I took a week off of work, can take a nap whenever I want! I am starting to REALLY miss eating REAL food though, I get hungry but am easily able to curb it with a protein shake, but really want to eat YUMMY FOOD. Don't get me wrong, my protein shakes are delicious and healthy, but hopefully you know what I mean by REAL FOOD! I go to see my doc (LOVE HIM) on Monday and am going to ask him if I can PLEASE (!!!) have mushies at least!!! I would give ANYTHING to be able to just eat HALF of a chicken breast, or lettuce salad or tuna fish sandwich...JUST HALF! I have learned my lesson with over eating! LOL Anyway, I hope for all of you reading this that have not had surgery my story gives you hope that it won't be so bad. FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S ORDERS and ASK HIM/HER TO REMOVE AS MUCH GAS AS POSSIBLE BEFORE STITCHING YOU ALL UP! Also, I have lost 15 lbs in the past 16 days and FEEL AMAZING!!!! YAY ME!!! Rock it out all the way banded!!!!

Getting Lap Band But Very Worried

I started seeing a therapist because I too am a binge eater, food is my best friend - or was! Now my band is! Lol I was worried that I'd literally eat right through my band or change my food addiction to another addiction. I know two people who got gastric by pass only to then become alcoholics! They have both started gaining weight into their second and third years post op. My therapist asks hard questions like, why aren't u worthy? And points out ways in which my binge eating is a testimony to how I feel I am not worthy of happiness. I'm only 5 days post op but have lost 15 lbs in 17 days due to the liquid diet I'm prescribed. I never thought I could do this for 14 days much less 17!!! I want real food, but really feel like I can eat without binging now. I am worthy and this tool (aka my best friend) is a reminder. Get a good therapist! GOOD LUCK TO U, U CAN DO THIS! Food is not making u feel good and its time to realize u were not born hungry! U were born beautiful and healthy!!! Throw out those old ways of thinking!

    Help

Edward, u need to stop eating while at work or only have Protein shakes while u are there. I love EAS soy protein with 1/2 banana, ice, and skim milk! U know what u need to do I think, u just haven't stopped letting the excuses win. I'm only 5 days post op so maybe I shouldn't have responded, but have lost 60 lbs before the band. I think once u are banded u know for sure what to do- 3 small meals, no grazing, 60-80 g of protein, 64 oz of Water, and get a fill if ur hungry. I know when u are around food all day its hard, but to me living fat/obese is harder. Believe in urself, set one goal each week, and do it! NO EXCUSES! GOOD LUCK!

    5 MORE DAYS

I just had my surgery on Feb 1st and it went great! I was nervous about not coming out of surgery due to the anesthesia plus thought maybe I'd bleed to death if my surgeon cut my liver! Everything went sooo great! I'm 5 days post op, have lost 15 lbs since starting my liquid diet 17 days ago, have no gas pain, can sleep on my stomach, and have really enjoyed this time off of work due to being able to relax! I'm so excited for you! You'll do great! Just ask your doc to remove as much gas as he/she can before sewing u back up! I love this forum too and feel so happy to finally have a real tool to help me lose weight! I burp more now, but that is more socially acceptable than being over 300 lbs like I was! I'm now at 289!!! Go get it! It's gonna change ur life!!!

    Recovery/Returning to Work

I took 8 days off but feel great 4 days post op. I'm enjoying the extra sleep and think u should be fine to return in a week if u plan out ur food. I'm a counselor though, so I sit a lot and talk/play games and cook with my clients.

    When did you start excerising?

I am 4 days post op and my doc said I can walk around my house or walk on the treadmill no more than 2.0 for 20 mins. I walked on it yesterday and it stirred up some gas. Was great! Also, I have an elliptical but my doc told me since it works ur core muscles that I couldn't work out on that until after I see him this coming Monday. I don't know about any of u, but I really do enjoy working out. I'm fat because of how much I used to eat to get full after years of overeating due to trying to feed my emotional fillings. That's right, not feel but fill. I have lost 14 lbs in 16 days and am sooo happy I have a band to help me. I don't have a fill in my band yet, but am doing what my doc says and taking it easy for at least this first 5-7 days after surgery.

    How Did I Gain??? UGG!!!

You did not eat nutritious food. If you are still "cheating" that is why u gained. I agree with the other person that said you are not on a diet anymore. 4 cups of coffee is not a good choice either. Caffeine is an appetite stimulant! So basically you reved up your metabolism, fed it sodium and fat (cashews), followed by carbs and possibly sugared Water only to find urself probably still hungry and heavier. Protein first then foods that have the four main Vitamins in them. Also no drinking your calories or 30 mins before or after eating. Sounds like u have some fine tuning to do.

    Light headed and dizzy?

After I started this lap band journey I started getting panic attacks and got hot all over, light headed and dizzy. The worst time was when I was driving with my daughter 2 hrs from our home. I have been on prozac and its helping me. I am suffering through sciatica that started 2 days into my pre op diet. I can easily give up, say being healthy is painful, or that my body is rejecting this diet, etc. The bottomline is I need to do this and I have to go through some unpleasantries to get to my goal of 200 lbs. I'm 5'11. My body likes fat and is used to my laziness so it's screaming at me to stop this! I am screaming back nd refusing to stay this way by listening to my doctors and praying for strength. I have lost 10 lbs and am on my 12th day of my liquid diet. Surgery day is Tues Feb 1st and this diet has shown me I can do this post op and has given me more hope. If I don't have this done this back pain will stay and reduce the quality of my life. Listen to ur doctor and realize if it was easy, no one would be fat. Having issues pre op and for a short time after is worth the rest of ur life!

    FEBRUARY DATE!!!

I'm on day 11 of my pre op diet and miss food but have lost 10 lbs, so yay for me! Sciatic nerve pain is kicking my ass, but I'm hoping losing weight will solve that issue. I am totally excited for Tuesday to get here! I am ready for the pain, etc! I feel great that I have done this very restricted diet for several days and can make it 14 days. I feel like I'm in control of my hunger before surgery so having a great tool after will make it even better! I know I can do this! I think the hardest part is going to be the gas pain and then finding my "sweet spot" where I'm not hungry but still able to lose weight. I hope all of u are excited, am happy I have u to share my feelings with, and can't wait to see ur pics this summer! Just think! We will be losing this spring and I'm planning on having the best summer ever at the pool!!!

stressing out on my pre op diet

I am on day 6 of my diet. It is going really well and I am super excited that I'm doing it because it shows me that I am capable of doing something I thought was going to be really difficult. Getting the surgery is going to b 1 of the biggest, most important things I have ever done for myself. I have lost 7 pounds in 6 days, found out that my children like Protein shakes, and have for the first time in my life been able to focus on something other than what I'm making for supper! I am so happy I listened to my doctor and gave this pre op diet a chance! It feels like the first steps going to be the first day of the rest of my life

Day 5 of Pre-Op Liquid Diet

So, it's 7:26 p.m. and today has been a great day as far as food goes, but HORRIBLE as far as my life! I have sciatic pain that would kill a horse and I am so afraid that I will have to delay my surgery if this pain doesn't calm down! I REFUSE to allow that to happen though. My doctor said the first 3-4 days of my liquid diet would be the worst, so I'm not going backwards! I have made it successfully to day 5!!! I have had a protein shake (28 g), chicken and stars soup (3 g), 1/2 of a protein bar (12 g), lite yogurt (8 g) and will have another protein shake before bed (28 g). Total protein for today 79 grams! I am NOT hungry, and feel VERY confident in my ability to do this once I am banded because let's face it, my stomach is still HUGE right now and I'm not even starving! I worked out for 20 minutes on my elliptical and did 30 minutes of stretching to help ease my sciatic nerve pain...it worked some! My boyfriend is in the hospital right now struggling to keep any food down and has pneumonia...so today has NOT been a good emotional day, but I didn't feed my feelings and can just admit that I'm SAD....not hungry about it!

55lbs down and more to go!!!

Great job you two! I get banded on Feb 1st and can't wait! I am doing my pre op diet and weighed 3 days ago (6 lbs lighter) I can't wait to share how much I have lost after my surgery. Great job on 30-55lbs in less than a month though! WOW! That's inspiring!!! Keep up the good work and as I suffer though sciatic nerve pain right now, I hear ya on the "enough is enough" with the health problems!!! May God be with you,

Day 4 of Pre-Op Liquid Diet

So, it's 9:19 p.m. and I am not hungry at all! I just enjoyed my last protein shake for the day and am happily finding out that my family likes them too! I was thinking that if my family will trade in the sugary cereals we normally eat for skim milk, banana, protein shakes that would be SO AWESOME! That is definitely a start to my whole family getting healthy with me, and if you compare the cost of cereal to protein powder, I believe we would be saving money AND CALORIES!!! I can just see it now, each person have a hand mixer making their own breakfast! WOO HOO! I'm actually going to invest in two hand mixers in order to be able to make a shake in the kitchen without disturbing the people that will be asleep in the future. I can DEFINITELY live with having these yummy protein shakes for the rest of my life! They fill me up for 4-5 hours too! I feel so happy knowing they are under 500 calories, good for me, and keep me full for a long time! I had a protein shake w/ banana and skim milk for breakfast (28 g), tomato soup for lunch (3 g), lite yogurt (8 g) and 1/2 protein bar (12 g) for snack, and a protein shake (28 g) for supper. I also had 64 ounces of water today! Total protein intake for day four...79 grams! I am going to bed feeling satisfied and like I CAN do this! ONE PROBLEM! I am having SEVERE sciatic nerve pain and am so scared that if this doesn't get better it could delay my surgery! NO!!! That will NOT happen!!! (I hope!) Please pray for me that my back/nerve gets better before I have surgery!

Um...Yeah I'll Have The Protein Shake, Please

OMG! Ha ha ha ha! Boy did I need to read this today! I am not getting banded until Feb 1st, but I just have to tell you how hilarious AND TRUE your blog is! OMG!!!! I couldn't stop reading and shaking my head...YES! YES, OMG! YES!!! I feel the same way as you about that lady at work and I don't even know her! How's that for insanity. I too pop Ativan (on occassion) to deal with the anxiety of losing my ex to "the others". I don't want "him" anymore (food), but oh, how good he will look in a few months as I learn I can no longer indulge in his greasy ways! You never know what you've got until it's gone, or restricted to about a cup and a half for the rest of your life! My cup will NOT runneth over and I will be pissy some days I'm sure. Not sure if I'll do the drive thru or the chinest buffet one day (I hope not) but OH the thought of gorging myself just one last time with cheesy shrimp from a clam shell at Yan Buffet makes me almost want to cry! I'm on my pre op diet and not longing for food at this moment, but oh has my EX tasted so good! Food will be missed, but my heart is now truly set on the looks of a smaller waist, bust line, and pant size!!! Thank you for sharing, I so enjoyed it!
