    Food Suggestions

DITTO Protein Protein Protein!! at that stage I was living on canned sardines, canned tunna, canned chicken, canned crab meat, canned salmon.....anything that was an animal that was canned!! (oh and egg salad!!) High in protein...breakes up easy with a fork so great for that mushy stage. Now here come the most important part..mix with lime or lemon juice may be a teaspoon of mayo...open up that spice cabinet 5 spice powder or curry is great on canned chicken...dill with salmon and lime juice, tuna with oil and balsamic vinegar...crab with lemon and dry mustard....experiment with a fork full of the meat and dab some spice to give it a try. Have fun creating different combos!

    a few concerns of mine

If you don't like the protein shakes try a soup a (non cream veggie soup) like tomato, broccoli, carrot and ginger or butternut and add unflavored protein (I love unjury) to it. Make sure you are getting at least 60 grms of protein per day...with the unflavored powder 1 scoop = 20 grams!!

    Principal Life Insurance question

The Principal is a large well known insurance company this is the web site Principal.com - Group Life, Disability and Health Insurance Benefits I have been in Financial Services for 17 years and I only know them as a Good Financial Service Company...never knew they did health insurance as well, however, they do not offer health in surance in the states I deal with so that is why I'm unaware. Good Luck!
  8. I brought my glasses and magazines. Never got to read! I wore the same outfit out of the hospital that I wore in. Heck I was only in the clothes for 2 hours...the more you bring the more apt you are to lose it!

    Unflavored Protein

I use unjury you order it over the internet. LOVE IT!
  12. Both hospitals I worked with advised to stay away from carnation instant breakfast..not enough Protein to much sugar in the non- sugar free type. Both hospitals STRESSED 60 grms of protein per day. My post op eating schedule was as follows day prior and day of Clear liquid WEEK ONE: full liquids ie Protein shakes, greek yogurt, soups with added unflavored Protein powder, sugar free popsicles WEEK TWO AND THREE: liquifed pureeded so all the above plus egg salad, canned tuna, salmon, sardines, chicken all processed with a blender or immersion blender WEEK FOUR: all the above plus, thin shaved deli meats, scrambled eggs, frittata, chilli, shepards pie WEEK FIVE: regular controlled diet adding one new food per day to see how it is tolerated They also have me logging in EVERYTHING i eat in a program that keeps track of calories, protein, fat etc. This keeps me honest and I can tell why i'm not feeling so hot. Today for example was not feeling well went in to the log and saw I did not have enough to drink over the past two days. Started drinking and I'm much better!
  13. Ok so my husband is a professional chef...I was a foods and nutrition major in college. I"m about 2 1/2 weeks post op and am doing great with the mushies..did fine with the liquid phase and am looking forward to the soft stage. We were thinking about starting a personal chef service to help post op bariatic patients with the 1st stages diet. I have seen so many complain about the post op diet we have been making some great tasting meals we tought it may help some who struggle with ideas and taste. So would you pay for someone to cook for you?
  14. why on earth would you want that on tape??

    Not Losing

I agree with Queen Fig..stay away from the carbs...like mashed potatos..keep up the protein 60 grms a day..so add unflavored protein powder to soups that will help and get a digital scale that has a reading like 150.5 so if you lose .1 pound you can have something to celebrate!!
  16. What did you have as your first real meal post op?....I'm a few weeks away but I'm planning. Can't make up my mind Chicken with Papaya BBQ Sauce and Coconut rice or Nori crusted salmon

  19. I just ate a can of Sardines in HOT sauce...i'm still on mushies...it was yumo!! I've been adding lots of spices..sweet, hot and smokey spices to my mushy food, it gets rid of the BLANDS. I use, curry, smoked paprika, 5 spice powder, tobasco, chili powder, nutmeg...all with no problem so far!
  20. I went for the apnea test so I could qualify for this surgery. Was diagnosed with Severe obstructive apena. Doc wanted me to go for the titratin study where they figure out what the settings to use on the machine would be ...I refused. Im not going to need it once i lose the wieght and I wont wear it inthe meantime. I had surgey on 7.15 and stayed over one night. Got to stay inthe ICU with a patient ratio of 2:1..why the icu cause I had apena, no machine and not settings. LOVED IT!! My nurse was awesome casue he said most of his patients are 1/2 dead...he and I were walking aound the ward together at 4:30 in the morning he was giving me a tour! LOL!!

    Isopure protein drinks...

I was ok with isopure at first then I just got turned off by them. I was getting a slime on my teeth when drinking them. Then one day I was sipping one in my office and a chunk of slime went in my mouth. I called the company to report it thinking something was wrong with the batch. Oh thats normal you just need to shake it...well it does not say that on the label! I now have a stock pile of the 8 ounce bottles...I will try to use them very iced down and diluted, on those hot days when you need hydration !! I found the little bottles at Rite Aid and there is a $2 off coupon on the isopure website for the 6 pack of 8 oz bottles. The 8 oz size has 190 calories and 15 gr of Protein. Good Luck!

you can also make mini baked omlets in a muffin tin at home. Bake them in the oven if you have a 6 muffin tin and only want to make 4 just fill the empty ones with water. Then just microwave at work!! I make mine with lost of vegges its always something different!

    mmm.. PEANUT BUTTER

slice a banana in 1 - 1 1/2 inch thick slices coat with peanut butter...I like the all natural NO SUGAR kind.. stick one of those little wooden picks you use for finger food at parties (you find them right next to the toothpicks in the store). Pop them in the freezer. It takes longer to eat, and its cool and refreshing!
