Hi there, I've been banded 10 months now, I've had 7 cc in a 10 cc band (most recently .25 cc 5 days ago). I've lost 45 pounds (which I'm very, very pleased with, as I started with a 34 BMI). I have always (pre-banding included) been prone to sinus headaches. Since being banded, and especially in the last few weeks, I've noticed a connection between when I eat, and the onset of sinus pain. Bizarre, right?? But honestly, I've noticed they seem to be related! Since my last fill, I've had major sinus pain, barely controllable with sinus meds, and it's worse when I eat. Has anyone ever experienced/ heard of this before? Or am I seeing a relationship that doesn't exist? Your input and experience would be welcomed! Jaymie

While I think Phran put it a little harshly, I think the point is that the band won't lose your weight for you. You need to work with the band and make huge lifestyle changes. I was banded in April as well and I have lost 35 pounds since. It's been hard at times, but those are the times I am most happy that I have the band. Please don't give up- I think it would be a real waste if you had your band removed without finding proper restriction... maybe you'll get it at 6.25 or 6.5! Good luck!

The day I got banded (6 months ago) was the day I gave up Diet pop. I was definitely addicted and craved it for a while... but I have stuck to my decision and I know my health is better for it!

Eating before bed or laying down...
jaymie replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do about the same... otherwise I get some acid reflux. The other night I had a headache, so I took an Advil right before bed, I was feeling burpy and acidic for an hour while laying there!! -
Psycologist or Dietician?
jaymie replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think seeing a psychologist (especially if you can find one that specializes in disordered eating) would be very helpful for you. Together you might be able to discover the reasons why and what to do about your feelings of wanting to sabotage yourself. Best of luck, -
How long have you been banded? Have you had any fills yet? Do you have good restriction?

What am I doing wrong!!?
jaymie replied to Amanda-7/17/10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you need to change your mind-set a bit: instead of having a 'cheat day' each week- why don't you increase your daily caloric intake so you don't look so forward to eating and drinking excessively on Saturday? I'm not a nutritionist or anything- but it just seems like by having a cheat day you're thinking of being banded as a diet when you should be looking at an entire lifestyle change. -
what city and state are you from and what occupation

Lower Coverdale, New Brunswick, Canada Student Nurse (3rd year out of 4) and Mom of 2 -
when did you get restriction?
jaymie replied to merrywait's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had good restriction after my 3rd fill which put me at 5.75 cc in a 10 cc band. -
I'm sorry you're having such strong second thoughts. Have you lost much weight? Have you had problems with your band? I had my surgery a 3 hour flight from my home.... I get fills from a doctor 50 miles away. Most of my follow-up is by phone or email to the facility I flew to.. but barring anything serious, I don't see that I would need to have face time with my surgeon again. I would really try and make the best of your band--- it's a lot easier to work with it than to have it removed and be back where you started! Just my opinion- best of luck!

I don't understand all of this negativity! Look at the positives: You probably (if you're like me) would have GAINED some weight over the last couple of months if you hadn't been banded- but instead you've lost weight! You should try and be inspired by the success stories on here- not become jealous and frustrated. Weight loss is as individual as something can be- every person if different so be happy for your accomplishments and try not to compare yourself to others on here.

To Weigh or Not To Weigh
jaymie replied to rkwilliams1013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the others- set a time- once every week, two weeks, whatever and weigh in. Don't get into the habit of weighing yourself 5 or 6 times a day- that just sets you up for disappointment! -
Just because you CAN eat things, drink beer, etc... doesn't mean you have to. Work WITH your band- it's just a tool- it can't make you lose weight if you aren't working with it.

I love chinese food- but I find ALOT of it really sticks-- I have a big problem with the rice especially.

Yeah, I'm 4 months post- surgery and belch all the time now. Maybe we can all get into competitive burping!!!!

Hi, My husband is allergic to codeine, and gets wicked headaches from it. As far as your weight gain- don't worry about it- your body has just been through surgery and is in the process of healing.

Back to the Band...after 3 years
jaymie replied to cegj29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way to go Cegj29 and Barneygirl!! Never give up- you can do this. -
You and I are starting out at about the same size, but I was banded in April. You need to be careful about "testing the limits" this early after your surgery, as you could hurt yourself. Be patient, follow your doctor's instructions and remember that those of us who start out with relatively low BMI's (compared to some other Bandsters) will not lose weight at as fast a rate. Good luck and welcome to "bandster hell!"

Passing lots of gas... does this ever end?
jaymie replied to hotsexyrunnerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Gas-x strips or any other medicine that has simethicone in it... Simethicone is an anti-flatulent. -
Well, almost a year and lost no more weight
jaymie replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get a fill and definitely journal what you are eating.... I always think, "Gee, I'm really not eating much..." but when I look at it in black and white, I realize I'm taking in way more than I thought. And get exercising- that will help with your weight loss and your depression. Good luck, -
I really and truly think you will be fine to read at the service. You might want to have a 'stock answer' ready however, for when others ask why you aren't eating, dancing, drinking, etc.... It was easy for me because I also had a hiatal hernia repair when I had my Lap-Band installed, so I just blamed the hernia repair for everything! Good luck- I'm sure you'll be fine!

I week after surgery and feeling like food gets stuck
jaymie replied to Tupietails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a post-op diet of any kind? One week after my surgery I was still on liquids. Just make sure you are taking sips, not gulps. And chew your food ALOT. Good luck!
