I've not had a problem with chinese after my surgery in May. You could do Wonton or Egg Drop Soup if you're craving now and on mushie/liquid.

Anything besides milk of magnesia?
gatlingirl replied to Kristy29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sweetbean...hard stool means you're not getting enough water. Stool softener doens't work for me, but Miralax is a wonderful thing, blends with no taste. -
Has anyone had a flipped port?
gatlingirl replied to HoneyBrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the surgery on May 25th and when I went in on July 7th for my 1st fill they found my port had flipped. I had no pain, no nothing and was totally dumbfounded. But the 2nd surgery wasn't nearly as bad as the 1st one. But I was asking the same thing you did. I'm working out at Curves and I went back to curves 2 weeks after the original surgery because I was cleared. But now, with the port revision, I made the call to not return to the gym for 3 weeks afterwards. He did give me a small fill along with the port revision. But be very aware of that fill. It made a HUGE difference at least for the first few days after surgery. I was throwing up even Water the next morning after the surgery. Just take it VERY slow with the liquids for the few days after your surgery. Good Luck. -
Stuck and Sliming in the Morning but not at Night ?
gatlingirl replied to hotsexyrunnerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band is tighter in the AM. If you're a coffee drinker get some Unjury Protein unflavored powder and add to your coffee. Just remember that you have to wait until your coffee gets under 130 degrees before adding the powder. But I don't taste any difference and that is already 20 grams of protein right there. That should hold you for a little while until you can eat yogurt or something to eat. Good luck. -
Please help! I'm Stalled!!
gatlingirl replied to titiay30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think about joining Curves. Even if you go for one night just to check them out. Usually they will let you do that for free. If you already belong to a gym and can't get out of the membership. If you go to Curves and go through one of their circuits you could mentally write down what equipment they have and use those same machines at the gym. At Curves it's only a 30 minute circuit and I usually burn 250 to 300 calories in that time period. Which, ok that's not a big amount of calories, but considering that if we are to only get around 900 calories a day that is burning all but one entire meal of calories a day. Plus walking for 30 minutes a day and I've lost 41 inches since April. I was banded in May 2010, highest weight 347 and now I'm at 295. It helps just to think forward motion. And if you're busy, just make time. Get up 1/2 hr earlier and go for that walk. Walk around the outside of your house, it's free, and it will only cost you 30 minutes a day. Do 15 minutes in the AM and 15 in the PM at first every day, then increase from there. -
Meetup group for bandsters in Northern VA
gatlingirl replied to Janiece's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you check with your surgeon's office to see if they have a support group meeting? I'm about 1 1/2 hours West of DC out in the Valley and our hospital was just approved this year to start the lap band surgery. My surgeon's office have support group meetings each month and it's a God send. Like you I didn't know anyone else who had the lap band, only gastric patients. And our surgery is so much different that it's nice to talk to women in our group that are going through the same things I am. You are more than welcome to join our group. I realize it's a long drive but if you're interested in finding about our group or want a list of topics that we're doing each month I'll be more than happy to share with you. Personal offline e-mail: gatlin39@yahoo.com Good luck. -
I don't know about you guys but I'm getting bummed out: original surgery: May 25th 2nd surgery --port flipped -- July 12th follow up appt from 2nd surgery -- July 26th had lost 12 pounds since the follow up appt on July 26th, according to my scales, I've not lost anything. I'm walking at least 1 to 2 miles 5 days a week and going to work out at Curves for a minimum of 4 usually 5 days a week burning anywhere from 230 to 280 calories at a time. I still weigh 300# and I'm watching my carbs and Protein intake is usually 60-80 grams a day with carbs much lower on a daily basis. My calories intake is only about 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day depending on my mood. But to not lose anything in like 3 weeks, bummer. I don't know I've not been able to get all 64 oz of Water in a day so I'm sure that's a little of it, but can't be all water weight. I would have thought that I should be able to show at least a 4 pound weight loss by now. oh well, I guess it's not a race but I'm just getting a little frustrated. Bandster Hades I guess...as with my 2nd surgery was my 1st fill. OFF THE SUBJECT --But Tracy I'm coming to NYC for a 2nd time in December to see the Christmas lights...totally excited.

ideas ofr mushie stage
gatlingirl replied to mom2girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mashed potatoes aren't really a good option as there is no real Protein there. If you can try baking some tilipia. It's soft enough that it basically falls apart when baked and a 4oz pc is 22 grams of protein. Or cottage cheese -- 4 oz is 11 grams of protein eggs -- anywhere from 6 to 8 grams of protein depending on the size of the egg chicken salad -- bake your chicken and mix with a little yogurt or lite mayo to make a wet chicken salad...very good protein levels. Good luck. -
Dying for a Diet Coke!!
gatlingirl replied to Mamarotten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad to hear that I was not the only Diet Coke addict out there. I gave it up when I started on the insurance plans "6 month" diet plan before my surgery in May. I do miss it but I'm too afraid to try it. I had my port to flip on me so I had to have a 2nd surgery 2 weeks ago. I didn't do anything "wrong" I have been following orders and it still happened so I'm too afraid to push the limits and cheat and really have something bad to happen. But yeah...I miss my old friend... for sure, oh well glug glug sucking down the Water will fill it. -
Protein suggestions
gatlingirl replied to momofkmk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
www.unjury.com has a really good unflavored Protein powder that is reasonably priced. Just be careful that you don't put it into liquids over 130 degrees. You can add it to decaf coffee, or a Protein smoothie, or Soup whatever to bump the protein. I think one scoop is like 20-25 grams of protein. Their website says that you can add it to Jello and pudding. I've tried the pudding and I think that it leaves an after taste that I don't care for. But I've not tried it in the Jello yet. I had added the chocolate mix to hot chocolate and the unflavored to my coffee and I can't taste it. Also, don't forget that you can add dry/powdered milk and bump a soup's value by 8 grams of protein too. Or throw some shredded cheese in a soup and let it melt. Or I've added the canned chicken breast to soup and then taken my "stick" blender to the soup to make sure it was all blended for the liquid. You can get soup bumped up to about 25 grams of protein pretty quickly that way. Good luck and hope these suggestions helped. -
So I went for my 1st fill today, Surgery was May 25th. Dr couldn't get the fill so sent me to the hospital. They said that it has "flipped" or "disconnected". Now I have to have that corrected on Monday. Did I do something wrong? I followed all of the instructions like no excercise (with the exception of walking) for 2 weeks after surgery. I've "cheated" a little food wise but nothing major and that shouldn't affect the port anyway right? I'm just irritated and just wanted to see if anyone else was having issues. At least I'm not in pain...only from the DR sticking me several times today. But whatever I guess just a bump in the road and more $$$ out.

Stage 3 diet question...
gatlingirl replied to Breepad09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut said to eat fish, something like tilipia. It's "mushy" enough when you bake it that you don't have to puree. If you like fish it's a great alternative to pureed. It's like 100 calories for 4oz and has 22 grams of Protein. Good luck and once you get through the pureed it does get better. -

weight loss vs inches lost
gatlingirl replied to missgypsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I joined Curves mid April 2010 and had lap band surgery on May 25th. I was just measured like 2 weeks ago and have lost 32 inches so far. I've lost around 25-30 pounds since then as well. I've got a long way to go but it's a start. OH and I've been walking 1 to 2 miles a day for at least 5 days a week. So I'm very happy with the results so far. -
Please help. I need to lose at least 20 pounds in the next 2 months before my surgery. My hospital is new and only doing a limited BMI weight range and I'm too big. Please help with weight loss ideas to lose that amount of weight. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help.

Pre Surgery Weight Loss Attempt
gatlingirl replied to gatlingirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the response. I will have 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet. And then a few weeks afterwards of liquid before moving on to the pureed and then to soft foods. So I'm a little nervous to start a liquid diet already 2 months before surgery. I know 20 pounds in 2 months doens't sound that "hard" to do but if I could lose weight on my own I wouldn't be doing surgery. I have done weight watchers before and lost 20-25 pounds but in 16 weeks. I guess I'll just do the weight watchers thing again and just really watch very closely. Thanks again for your post and have a blessed day. -
Documented Proof of Failed Medical Weight Loss???
gatlingirl replied to cindylew718's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance requires 6 months of Family Physician "diet". I am 4 months in and it's not going that well. But it has went by really quickly and they will keep you busy doing other things to get ready for your surgery too. I had to do an "excercise" clearance with the local wellness center. Then I had to do the psychological exam. I was a little bummed about waiting another 6 months but I've been fat for more than 20 years so another 6 months wasn't that bad. Good Luck with your journey.
