I'm not referring to the hair loss after the sleeve, but my hair has all but disappeared. I actually have to wear a hairpiece, and I have worn wigs in the past. Is there any chance it might grow back...at least a little bit after I lose the weight? By the way, I haven't been sleeved yet.

Nickel allergy and surgical staples
mythreechildren2001 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a nickel allergy. The only problem I have had with this is with earrings. I can't wear most hypoallergenic earrings. I met with my surgeon on Monday for my preop. He asked me if I had any allergies, and I said no..then I immediately asked him about the staples used in the surgery, and I told him about my nickel allergy with earrings. He said the staples are made of titanium and that it wouldn't be a problem. I recently read a similar question on obesity help and learned from there, as well as other sources, that titanium staples are never made solely of titanium and there is usually nickel contained in the staples. Does anyone here have a similar situation as mine (cheap earrings)? If so have you had problems since being sleeved? Thanks, Deborah -
Nickel allergy and surgical staples
mythreechildren2001 replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been awhile since I've checked back in here. I will be a year out next week, and I have had no complications whatsoever from my staples...or anything for that matter. Titanium staples are comprised of a certain amount of nickel, but I have had nothing but a wonderful year of losing weight and loving my sleeve! -

mythreechildren2001 replied to MsLadyKanKan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you found the answer. I went through the same thing until PPI's did it for me too! I was so frustrated when people told me it was head hunger when I KNEW it was in my stomach! lol -
Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery: Your Experience With Improvement Of Obesity Related Conditions?
mythreechildren2001 replied to LoserMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was insulin resistant and on metformin to help prevent diabetes. (I was getting closer to full blown diabetes with each passing day!). I've been off metformin since a few days before surgery...all numbers are normal. I've been off of high blood pressure meds since surgery. Blood pressure gets better every day. I was able to get off of my cpap at about 1 month post op. It was getting harder to sleep with the cpap so I tried it without it-slept like a log with tons of dreams (which I hadn't experienced in years) I have pcos and hadn't menstruated in YEARS. I got my first af visit 2 months post op and I'm regular since. That alone AMAZED me!! I'm sure there's more - like all the energy I have. I'm so much more active no and feel fantastic! I feel so blessed, and I thank God every day for my sleeve! -

Ashamed of WLS?
mythreechildren2001 replied to Less of Leslie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There was time when I was younger, that I wouldn't have told a soul. But now (maybe because I'm 47 and getting cantankerous) I just don't care what people think anymore. Everyone who knows me knows how many times I have been on Weight Watchers, Atkins, Slimfast, diet pills, plus literally DOZENS more. They know how I ruined my knee forever from exercise. Maybe it finally was the easy way out for me because it was a guarantee that I will lose, but I don't care. I haven't hidden it from anyone, because I DON'T CARE! (Did I mention that I'm becoming cantankerous with age?) lol I have tried and failed and tried an failed and tried and failed so many times. I just couldn't go on with it anymore. My husband was so against me having surgery, but he couldn't have stopped me if he had tried. We have been married for 22 years and we consult each other about most everything, but this was non negotiable. I FINALLY had the opportunity for insurance coverage for surgery, and I was taking it. I feel 1000 times better already. I'm already a better wife, mother, teacher, daughter, friend, etc because I now have the energy to go around for everybody. I LOVE my sleeve and I will shout it from the rooftops! As I see it, people are going to talk. The more they know something bothers you, the more they are going to talk. I decided to take that power away from them. My best friend, however, (who is also 47) is trying to have it done but she will have to self pay because she doesn't meet insurance qualifications. She's not nearly as heavy as I was. She plans to only tell her husband. I will go to my grave keeping her secret, because that is her choice. We all have to do what we are comfortable with, but I feel no shame. You do what you have to do. I really don't feel that there is a right way or a wrong way to handle this. Enjoy your sleeve, because it is amazing!! -
help struggling with head hunger I think
mythreechildren2001 replied to aliescha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a PPI? I was dealing with horrible hunger (real feelings of hunger-not head hunger) until I started the PPI that the dr prescribed. It helped tremendously! Now at almost 4 months out, it's better but I still take it every now and then because I still get that feeling. The PPI clears it up immediately. -

So Just how long does the 3 week stall last?

Mine last 3-4 weeks. It was so very frustrating, but once it was over I've been a loser ever since!! -

Is 8 months out too late?
mythreechildren2001 replied to MustangAli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said the optimal window for optimal weight loss is 18 months. You have a long way to go before you should begin to think you're done!! You do need to focus on protein first, get in your water, and exercise can only help. You can SO do this!! -
Movement anyone???
mythreechildren2001 replied to loly13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The hospital told me to take milk of magnesia the evening I got home from the hospital and the next day. When I called a couple of days later because of belly pain they asked me if I had taken it. I had not. They told me it was extremely important that I take it. I did and I felt soooo much better afterwards. -

Weight Watchers
mythreechildren2001 replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before my sleeve, WW was the only diet that would work for me...for awhile. I just couldn't keep it up, and I would regain every pound. It's an awful lot of money and time for something that's not applicable to your life as a sleever now. Even though it's less 'carb focused' than it was before, it's still not any kind of plan you're going to need to follow with your sleeve. I'm not sure what the going rate is now, but I know it's at least $12/week and possibly more. So unless you just have an extra $50 that you don't need for new clothes (which is something you most definitely will be needing) I just wouldn't do it right now. As someone else said, the support at WW is fantastic, and once I get closer to goal I might even find myself there again for the ten thousandth time too and finally make lifetime for once! lol -
Pain after surgery
mythreechildren2001 replied to ab76307's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slept in a recliner for over 2 weeks! There was no way I could lie in be or on a couch. Anytime I tried, I was reduced to tears! Hang in there. It truly gets better every day -
how many.....
mythreechildren2001 replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just over 3 months out. I very rarely go over the 800 calorie mark. I always, always, always eat high protein first. I'm off my PPI. I rarely get all my protein or water, but I try. I'm never hungry after I eat. I only eat an afternoon snack and only if I'm hungry. -
how soon can you drive after surgery?
mythreechildren2001 replied to bethk12@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cleared for driving as soon as I was off pain meds. My surgery was on a Tuesday. My last dose of pain meds was on the following Friday. I drove on Saturday. I also drove myself - by myself for my 1 week followup appt which was a 3 hour round trip with no problems. Good luck!! -
Metformin
mythreechildren2001 replied to DreamLife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took it for a few years before surgery for insulin resistance. My bariatric surgeon took me off of it a couple of days before surgery and told me not to take it again. I don't know why you would need it post op?? -

Did your VSG make you "EMOTIONAL"?
mythreechildren2001 replied to Sleeve2B's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was soooo much more emotional than usual the first few weeks post op. I knew I was, but I just felt like I couldn't control it. I don't remember how long it lasted, but I'm so glad it's over! -
Same here...especially with sweets. I was a major sugar addict before, but now anything sweet has lost its appeal. Whatever the reason, I so very, very thankful!!

Cereal has been allowed by my surgeon since fairly early out. I eat it every now and then, but avoid it most of the time because of the high carbs.
