    Hungry after surgery?

Oh thanks for this! They did give me a PPI, but I didn't want to worry about taking that until a few more day. I didn't realize that would help with that. I was just thinking of reflux, and I didn't expect to have reflux until I added more solids. I'll take that right now!! Thanks again!

    post op pain meds

I was wondering how long everyone had to take their pain meds post op. I'm on liquid lortab which is only for 3 days. The dr told me to call if I needed more, but I'm really hoping that I won't. What would you say are the odds of that?

    post op pain meds

I took a dose last night before bed, but I'm going to attempt to get off of it today. I haven't taken anything this morning, and the only pain/discomfort I have is at my largest incision site. It only hurts when I walk, and a pillow doesn't help much. I was wondering if wrapping an ace bandage around my abdomen would be ok??

    Hungry after surgery?

I don't fully understand this either. I was sleeved 2 days ago, and I'm hungry, My stomach is growling 'out loud'. lol BUT I don't want to eat. I don't even want to drink, but I'm definitely on the hungry side.

Through burping and hiccuping...or at least that's what I'm referring too

    after surgery

I wore home the clothes I wore to the hospital. I took a few extra undies, but I only needed the clean pair I wore home. I just wore the hospital gown. The gas was really bad for me, but walking makes a huge improvement quickly. You might have trouble with the co2 they use to inflate your abdomen, and you might have trouble with the digestive gas. The gas x helps a lot with the digestive gas, and the walking helps with both. My two friends who were sleeved didn't have any problem with gas at all, so you just never know how it's going to go! I just can't emphasize enough how quickly the walking starts to dissipate the surgical gas. You'll do great!!

Sleeved yesterday and just got home

Thanks Suzanne! Yes I'm in the US. I did get pain meds. I just thought I was tough enough not to need them....I was wrong!! I needed them very much!! I had dh pick up some gas x last night, but I've only used one at a time. They've definitely helped, so I think I'll at least double up on them. Passing gas through my sleeve...not fun even with pain medicine, but bearable. Thanks for your input and support!

    after surgery

No I didn't and I've not really had nausea, but I know the dr can give you something that will dissolve on your tongue so you might wait for that. It will help you sleep too (according to a sleeved friend irl)

    Incision Pain/ Protein?

I'm 2 days post op, and this day started out extremely tearfully for me. Oh my goodness, I was a mess!!! A friend who has been sleeved told me to take my pain meds, and it made a HUGE difference! I had huge buyer's remorse until I took my pain meds and I've taken it every time possible today. I started the day crying, and I'm ending it playing wii with my kids and laughing. HUGE difference! Pain meds have been my friend today for sure. As for protein, I'm not worrying about that this week. I'm just focusing on hydration. If I can stay out of the ER and off IV fluids, I've reached my goal for this week anyway I have 2 friends who are sisters. They've both been sleeved. The first one ended up back in the hospital for dehydration. The second one then decided, because of her sister's experience, to focus on hydration and she's done very well. So that's the route I'm trying to take. I have had one protein shake today, but I'm not going to fight that battle yet. Good luck to you!!

Sleeved yesterday and just got home

What a difference a day makes!! I was feeling soooo horribly this morning. I couldn't stop crying, I was in so much pain. Well who would have thought pain meds would put an end to that! lol I've been a whole new person since I took my liquid loritab!! I've been laughing with my children and conversational. I'm already glad I'm a sleever!!

    after surgery

My dr allows the pudding and yogurt if it's thinned with skim milk. I was served jello in the hospital, and I had a whole one today as well.

    after surgery

Well I don't know if it matters or not. I didn't take that into consideration. Actually I bought chicken noodle soup, and I plan on straining the noodles out of it. That may not be the best advice, but it's what I'm doing.

    after surgery

I'm 2 days post op. I bought protein drinks, sf jello, yogurt, sf pudding, flavor packs for water, sf hot chocolate, tomato soup, chicken broth, vitamins/supplements, gas x strips, sf carnation instant breakfast...and that's all I can think of right now. Good luck to you!! My very best advice to you is...if you need pain medicine, take it! I thought I could be all tough and not take the pain meds, but I couldn't handle it...so if you need it, take it and walk, walk, walk!! You'll do great!!

Sleeved yesterday and just got home

I'm feeling better now that I got my pain meds down. It was painful going down, but I feel soooo much better now. I've had about 2/3 of a popsicle, my pain meds, and I've almost finished a sf hot chocolate. I think I'll try some Protein later. I was planning to just focus on liquids and not worry about protein today, but I may be able to get some down later. I've been walking to help with the operative gasses and the gas-x strips are helping with the digestive gasses so, although still difficult, it's already looking up slightly.

Thanks for the encouragement. I hate to come across as so negative, but I really wasn't prepared for this, even though all I did preop was read and watch videos. Thanks again.

    Oh My HAIR!!!

This terrifies me because I have pcos/insulin resistance and my hair is all but gone. I have to wear a hairpiece. My surgery is today, and I'm scared to death that I won't even have enough to clip my hairpiece to. Mine is the thickness of ONCE pencil.

    A spiritual friends thoughts

I struggled with this as well for a long time. The Bible says that "I can do all things through Christ..." but for some reason I was never able to lose weight and keep it off. I've lost 75 lbs at different times in my life only to gain it back over and over. I've tried faith-based weight loss plans along with most every other weight loss method to no avail. I am a teacher and the state's insurance covers wls but dh's company does not. Dh's insurance was cheaper so we took it when he hired onto his company 10 years ago. Our state doesn't offer open enrollment ever in that you can only sign on when you are first hired, have a baby, death of a spouse/child, divorce, or spouse loses job with insurance. But because of the new health care laws, our state was required to open it up to everyone. I have to pay $130/month penalty for 2 years to sign on to our insurance, but the policy itself is free to me. I had been in continual prayer regarding my weight when this became available. I discussed my concerns with how God might feel about this surgery with a friend/fellow teacher and she told me the same story that skcunningham told, so I signed on. Then I reminded myself about what the bible says about 'if your eye causes you to sin...' for ME my eating is gluttony and it is sin. I have not been overweight my whole life, but for some reason I cannot gain control of it. Please know that I'm not convicting anyone else in regards to their weight/eating, but for me I know it is sin. I'm soooo thankful that God has given me this opportunity, and I intend to make the most of it and give God the glory! Best wishes to you!!

    New to this forum

My surgery is in 3 days, and I have struggled with the same issues. I was in continual prayer about it when the opportunity to sign back on to my school's insurance program made itself available for the first time ever. I jumped on that and signed up. I also reminded myself what the Bible says regarding if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out....for me my eating is sinful. (I am not saying this is the case for everyone, but for me it is). I'm so thankful that God has provided the opportunity for this surgery, and I intend to use it to the fullest and give God the glory! I too dealt with secondary infertility. We conceived our son on the very first attempt. I gained 75 lbs during that pregnancy, and never lost it. After that we attempted to conceive for 8 years, when we were blessed with twin girls! God is so good!! Best wishes to you!!
  22. My surgery is in 3 days!!! but my surgeon told me I could drive as long as I could comfortably turn my head both sides to check for traffic/lane changes.
