I was banded 2 years ago 6/3. I have made very little progress. I take full responisbilty, and just do not have the will power to stay away from what I need to and do the exercising I need to. This tool is just not working for me. I have a question.... Has anyone had experience with having the band removed and then having bypass surgery? Will Insurance companies even allow that? Please, no lectures. If you haven't, no need to reply. If you've thought about it, share your feelings. Thanks you MaryAnn

Its time to take responsibility for my decisions, and I'm hoping that the support of fellow banders will wake me up. Before anyone says that the band is a tool, and not a "fix all", I know that. I'm simply lacking the motivation and will power. I was banded on June 3rd. To date, I've lost 18 pounds. For the last 3 months, I've lost nothing. I don't eat right and I don't exercise. I lack the ambition and I need it back! I was up to 7 cc's in my band, but everything got stuck, so my Dr took out 1/2 a cc. Some things still get stuck, because I don't chew well, and I simply wash it down with Water. (I know that is a no no) One of my problems is I cannot find the right foods to eat. I'm a very picky eater, and am a meat and potatoes kind of girl. I don't feel full like I thought I would. Eating 2nd's is not a problem, and I can eat anything I want. Eating sugar has not bad affects on me... at all. I feel fatigued and achy, and I know its from lack of exercise. I had an appt to talk to my Dr a little over a week ago, and then bam... we had a snow storm and I had to cancel. I now have an appt for 1/17. I often think that maybe it would have been better for me to have had the gastric bypass, because then maybe I would have to work so hard at, but I also know that is not the answer. The answer lies within myself, and I have to search my soul for it. I currently weigh 233 and I'm sick of it. Its as though I'm sabotaging myself. Why do I do that??? I truly, truly want to lose the weight. That is not the problem. The major problem is that I don't know how to eat right. Thank you for support, and although I know you probably won't do it, please don't lecture, because as I said.... I know that some of the things I'm doing are wrong. Oh... and by the way, I also smoke. I am a walking billboard for "What not to do after Lap Band surgery!" I need support, motivation and advise. I hope you all have a great day!

There's a strong possibility that I will be transferred from CT to Florida for my job in a couple of months. I had Lap Band surgery on June 3rd. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a DR in the Boca Raton area that I can contact. Thank You!

Has anyone had any saline removed prior to going on vacation, and then refilled when you got back? Just curious. Thanks!

Is that normal? I would think it would be, I mean they're sticking a needle in your side. lol Can't wait for my next fill! -
Please tell me this is not normal!!!

I was banded on June 3rd. I had little to no pain, no gas pain, and all went smoothly. In spite of all of that, I took 3 weeks off from work, because that's what my medical leave of absence (sort term disability) allowed, and I pay for it weekly. I'm glad I did, because I was completely healthy and stress free when I returned to a very stressful job. Everyone's experience is different, and I think what your friend experienced was out of the norm. -
How painful was your surgery on a scale of 1-10
maja0507 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was about a 2. I didn't have any gas pain, or shoulder pain. It went incredibly smooth for me. -
I'm almost 6 weeks post op, and my first fill is in 4 days. As of right now, I have absolutely no restriction, and can and do eat anything. I have no pain, and no ill affects when eating. Is the fill going to help this? I'm worried that this was all for nothing. I need to know that as the band is filled more and more that I will be able to stick to what I'm suppose to be eating and end the cycle of bad eating. Need some input please.

...but the kind I have is free! I am 5 weeks post op, and am suffering from an unbelievable amount of gas. No matter what I eat, I suffer afterwards. (and so does my husband) lol  I've tried Gas X, and Beano, and all they do is delay the process. I'm kept awake at night from it. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? Pleeease?!?

Any June Bandsters???
maja0507 replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 3 days ago, and I have had no problems. No gas pains, minimal pain and no appetite. I had to do 10 days of the liquid diet. Had no problems after about day 3 or 4. I lost a total of 9 pounds. Cheated one day with 4 saltine crackers. Just needed some salt and to chew something. Now, I'm not feeling any restriction, but I also have no appetite. I'm drinking my slimfast and eating yogurt and sugarfree pudding. The only issue I'm having is constipation. Dr has me taking Colace, but it's not working. I'm going to take some Milf of M before bed and hope for the best. Dr's appt on the 21st and hoping for a fill. I'm on a 2 week medical leave from work, but may try to go back on the 14th. Started walking today around the neighborhood. I'm taking one day at a time. Best of luck to all of you! -
Any June Bandsters???
maja0507 replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on June 3rd. So far, so good. I'm not hungry at all. I drink a lot of water. I'm now off clear liquids, and looking forward to some applesauce and sugar free pudding. The pain isn't too bad, just when I get up from sitting or getting down to a sitting position. I'm not sleeping well either. I've always slept on my stomach, can't do that for awhile. Overall... VERY happy I did this, and just taking one day at a time. -
Came home from the hospital yesterday morning. I'm very bloated, and the gas is just now starting to pass. My husband gives me a "you go girl!" when I do. lol Today, I'm able to start back on low carb slimfast, sugarfree pudding, sugarfree applesauce and light yogurt. My question is, do you think small amounts of sugarfree ice cream would be ok? What else have you been able to tolerate during this stage? Would love any assistance you can give.

Thank you, I didn't even think of that!

Any June Bandsters???
maja0507 replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting banded tomorrow as well. 11am! Very excited, a little nervous. I've lost 8 pounds on the pre op diet. -
I'm having a very difficult time quitting smoking. My surgery is next Thursday. Has anyone continued to smoke and still had their surgery? Did anyone not quit, and have their surgery postponed? I know people say they test, I know I should quit, just looking for answers to the above questions. Thanks!

Thank you all so much for the thoughts and advise. I will talk to my surgeon. Hopefully he'll be understanding about the struggles.

I'm wondering what your Doctor gave you for pain meds post op? My surgery is on June 3rd, and my Dr gave me a script for liquid vicodin. I have always had a problem with it in pill form. I get very bad headaches from it. I decided to take a dose last night to see how it would affect me, and once again, I woke this morning with a bad headache. What are the alternatives that you know of? I plan on calling my Dr on Monday to see if he can give me something different. Thanks!
-
Yep, that's what I got. I couldn't believe how big the bottle was. I also have a refill available. I'm going to call the Dr's office in the morning and ask them to call something else into my pharmacy. Thanks for all of the responses and advise! I'm SO excited!!

maja0507 replied to JazzyRayne's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery date is June 3rd. :smile2: I'm amazed at how fast your process is. I've been jumping through hoops since July of last year. Cardio evaluation, stress test, 6 Nutritionist appts, (30 days apart), psych evaluation, endoscopy, 2 mandatory support groups. Then I went on vacation May 1st, so I wanted to wait and have it done after that. All that aside.... the time is closing in fast! What are you doing for your liquid only diet? I can't seem to find any Optifast or low carb slimfast. -
My name is MaryAnn and I've been overweight for most of my life. When I was younger, I lose it in the summer playing outdoors. Now that I'm old, it's not as easy as that. I've tried everything. I can lose weight, but I'm unable to keep it off. A co-worker had the Lap Band done. I didn't know about it until she had lost about 30 pounds. I decided to check it out. I went to the first seminar in April of 2009, and took about 3 months to make my mind up. My surgery is scheduled for June 3rd and I cannot wait!
