    Weird, nasty Pain - Slippage?

I would call your doctor for sure, there should be someone on call even this early. It was explained to me that slipping felt like a sharp chest pain (almost heart attack like?). I hope this is not the case for you... please keep us posted. Will be thinking of you.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

raynie, soniacan, julestu... I am one week post op today and so releived to not be the only one feeling this way. Today started out great with a banana protein shake, sugar free and a small amount of straw consistency malt o meal.... but then...... I was stuck in a LONG (until 2:30pm) meeting through lunch time and forgot my protein shake!! I left work with a headache and in search of something allowed, but ended up with mashed potatoes liquified with a side of extra gravy and a few bites of chicken chewed really well but bad bad bad!! I thought I was stronger and felt really guilty. Tonight we went out for chinese (I ordered won ton soup off the menu with iced tea), but snuck in a few bites of the soft part of crab rangoon and 2 chicken pieces. Why would I do that! Feeling really guilty right now and obsessing I may have over stressed my healing pouch. I HAVE to do better tomorrow and will not forget my shake before leaving for work.

    I Did It

Tomorrow is one week out for me too! Halloween Banding. I agree on the bloating - no fun! It was hard watching the football game on Sunday at a sports bar drinking iced tea and "eating" the liquid portion only of my Soup, with all of the appetizers floating around! It will be worth it though. I am amazed at how relatively easy the recovery has been. I am starting to tell a few more people too. Thanks for your post and good luck to you!! We'll be so ready for the soft foods together.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

I am 5 days post op and think getting in enough protein in this 3 week full liquid phase is going to be the biggest challenge.. Today's Straw Diet Menu: Breakfast: Blended to powder special K cereal with milk and 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder Snack: 1 cup Egg Nog Lunch: Nouriche High Protein Yougart Smoothie Dinner: Homemade Potato Cream Cheese Soup that has been in my crock pot all day. (I will send my serving through the blender to meet straw qualifications). Snack: Sugar Free popsicles Water, Water, Water, Diet Snapple, and Crystal Light I am feeling MUCH better today and can tell swelling and bruising have gone down some. Hope everyone is doing well!!
  6. This is my 3rd post op day and I am exremely bloated/gassy!! I am using the gas x strips:phanvan. Does anyone know when this goes away? I am looking forward to that. I have no appetite, so am really trying to drink as much as possible to stay hydrated. I just switched to plain tylenol instead of the loratab elixir for pain. Hope everyone is doing well!

    Pre-op diet

Clear liquids for 30 days? Or full liquids like Protein shakes, soups, ect? I think it would be really hard to get 60 gm/day of protein in on clear liquids. Congratulations on your surgery.

    Another Pregnant Bandster!

Congratulations on your news! One of my reasons for proceeding with lap band surgery was to become pregnant in the next year or so at much healthier weight. I am very happy for you.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi everyone, I am now 2 days post op and am really sore - thank goodness for pain medication. Worse today than the actual day of surgery. :phanvan I am so happy LBT server came back up! I have no appetite, but have been drinking lots of water. I wasn't hungry but packed a few scoops of protein powder (38 grams) into one shake. Hope everyone is doing well!! Take good care, Kim

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi! Just wanted to drop a line and let you know everything went very well with my Lap-Band Placement today. No problems at all. I arrived at 7am and was home by 11am. I slept for about 3+ hours and feel GREAT tonight. No pain at all. I am still on clear liquids until tomorrow and I go back tomorrow for an xray. My diet for the next 3 weeks is anything that can pass through a straw, then 3 weeks of soft foods, then regular. My DH is being a great nurse today, even though I don't need one I really appreciate your support and encouragement!

    Written Exclusion Success?

Has anyone been successful in gaining coverage for lap band with a written exclusion for it in their policy? I have Coventry of KS - and have been denied. I decided to self pay (4 days until banding:)). Any advice on filing anyway, just in case they start covering it in the future? Thanks for your insight!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Glad you are doing better and on mushies! That is exciting. My bowel prep is drinking a lovely little bottle of Phos-pho-Soda (Oral Laxative):phanvan . I am at work now and have made 10+ bathroom trips. It is only recommended the afternoon before surgery. I go in for banding at 7am tomorrow. I also have been on the 10 day preop liquid diet (though not completely faithful to it the whole time).

    losing sizes

While frustrating, hang in there, everyone carries their weight differently so may take a few more pounds lost to go down a size. You're on the right track though!

    Price Negotiation$ Self Pay

Thankyou Skyblue79 for your support. I have been in healthcare long enough to realize what big business it is and bariatric surgery is leading the industry right now with a huge profit margin! I believe most things are negotiable, and you have to ask for what you want. The surgeon I have chosen, did offer a discounted rate to me as a self pay patient, and I have 2 days until banding. While I still carry some guilt, I am trying very hard to see it as an investment in myself that will more than pay for itself at many levels. I look forward to a day when insurance companies (and employers writing exclusions) will not be able to dictate who is worthy of receiving this surgery, when criteria are met, and all else is equal.
  19. kimberly150

    any regrets

I am curious if you had to self pay for the 2nd surgery? Did insurance cover it or the band company? Thanks
  20. This preop diet is tough for sure - I have 2 full days left until banding and have cheated a little everyday of the 10 day liquid diet:phanvan... I have lost 6 pounds nonetheless. Sunday and Monday will be clear liquids only before going in for lap band at 6am on Tuesday. I teach a 2 hour class on Mon night - I am hoping to make it through since the bowel prep will be in progress

    Pre-op diet

I am TRYING on my 10 day preop liquid diet (low sugar, low carb, low fat, high protien). I can tell I have already lost a few pounds.

    Airlines Charing Extra!

Southwest is the absolute WORST! My husband and I had a very humiliating experience with them. They pulled us out of the boarding line to get on the plane - and demanded my husband pay for an extra seat. They did this in front of everyone in line to board. We have never had that problem with them before or with any other airline for that matter. United, Frontier (A+++), and Northwest, and American have always been so nice and went out of thier way to be accomodating at no extra charge. We usually request to be reseated (prior to boarding) if we are in a full three accross seat - sometimes that is possible. Other than that we always book an aisle seat for my husband.

  24. my surgeon does not allow any solids until a full 6 weeks after surgery. I am confused? Did you have different diet advancement instructions? I wish you the best!
