    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi Shirley - We have the same band date. I am glad you posted. I am hoping to have my fill on Dec 13th as well. Congratulations on all of your weight loss prior to having lap band surgery - that is incredible. Had you been considering surgery at even your highest weight? What is your secret in losing? Thanks again for posting and we'll have to compare notes on fills. All of the October bandsters are really doing great and losing. I don't have a scale or I would probably become obsessed too! My first weight in since surgery will be when I go in for the 1st fill on Dec 13th - we will see. I feel like I have gained some in the past week or so - no restriction at all. Keep up the great work everyone!!
  3. Hi! Congratulations on your decision to have lbs! What a Christmas present to yourself and your family. I went back to work 3 days after surgery 1/2 day - I think you will be fine. Try to get all of your gifts wrapped and all those last minute details done ahead of time so you are not worried about it. Hopefully you can have some Egg Nog, Egg nog protien shakes, hot ciders/ decaf tea/ hot chocolate and broth soups - plan ahead for this so you don't feel deprived with all of that food around. You'll do great!!

I have 2 more weeks on soft foods before my first fill. Am I supposed to be following the rule 'no drinking during meals"? What are you doing? I wasn't sure if this applies now since everything is still pretty soft. Thanks for your insight..

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi Everyone! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I am in WI now for a wedding so has been little harder being away from home with the band. Yesterday I ate way too much at the Thanksgiving buffet to the point it was actually painful for about an hour after. That was really the first time I have overdone it since getting the band but learned my lesson on portions! Chrispy you are right this is a new day!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi everyone - I should schedule my first fill around Dec 20th. I a little worried that I will have problems with it and be out of town for Christmas. Should I wait until after Christmas? I don't want to gain any holiday weight either! Decisions, Decisions.... Thanks for your insight.

My discharge instructions say no hot tubs for 2 weeks, so you should be okay. Kim I wanted to know something...can we go in hot tubs when we are banded or is that a no no?
  10. p.s my surgeon did recommend not getting pregnant during the rapid weight loss period
  11. I asked this question of my surgeon in the first seminar I attended. You can choose to be unfilled during pregnancy if that is your desire, however, a pregnant women only needs 300 extra calories per day (which could be one can on Ensure, ect). Otherwise, the lapband will not affect pregnancy whatsoever. I chose lapband surgery because I want to get pregnant within the next year at a much healthier weight, and hopefully prevent an unhealty pregnancy. My preop BMI was 49. Good luck with your decision!

momotrips - your little getaway sounds wonderful! I don't think we do things like that for ourselves often enough. I didn't make the best eating choices today (darn football/ and sportsbars!) I do so much better at home. I tried on last years jeans that were way to tight and they fit perfectly today - yeah! I don't have a scale so will weigh in at my first fill around dec 15th. Hope everyone is doing well!

  18. Glad you are not having a lot of pain. What you are describing sounds like gas to me. It takes several days to get all of the anesthesia gases out of your system. They absorb into your muscles/tissues and can "float" around until you pass them. Have you tried the gas x strips? I took them 2 or 3 times a day post op and it helped to control things. It is a good idea to keep doing the deep breathing (Insentive Spirometer Exercises) too to work that anesthesia out of your lungs. Glad you are doing well and congrats on your surgery!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

P.S. I can tell I have lost some weight since surgery but am not getting on the scale until going in for a fill around Dec 15th...

    October 2006 Bandsters!

It is great to hear everyone is recovering so well after surgery! My incisions appear almost healed, and I haven't had any pain medicine since the 2nd post op day. I went back to work (for a half day) 3 days after surgery. I am now 11 days post op and getting through the liquid (straw consistency) diet has really been the biggest challenge - 10 more days of liquids then onto mushy/soft/pureed phase for another 3 weeks. Does anyone have any recommendations for starting the mushy stage portion wise 1/2 cup to 1c? Also does the rule begin to apply "Do not drink with meals and 1 hr after" with the mushy stage? Or is that more for starting solids at 6 weeks? Thanks for your help! My favorite breakfast smoothie is Peanut Butter Banana! 1 cup skim milk extra 1 ripe banana 1 spoon creamy peanut butter 1/4 cup danon (sugar free, fat free vanilla yogart) 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder 1/2 cup ice a few drops of liquid sweetner Yum!! This actually makes 2 shakes but my husband has been trying to do the liquid stage with me, so I share. I have never gotten so much use out of my kitchen aid blender before lap band surgery...

1 1/2 years post op and struggling

Hi Keri, I am so glad you decided to rejoin lbt and posted your struggles. I was banded less than 2 weeks ago (so am hardly an expert) but have learned from others on this site, the beauty of the band is that it is still there for you when you are ready. I am encouraged by the positive decisions you have made to turn things around and work on getting healthier! Good for you!

Comfort food for sure.

  24. Hi AZ, I commend you for seeking input on this situation. It seems your wife may be pretty fragile emotionally about her weight right now. I think a successful approach for you right now would be to really invest yourself in your wife in the little things and build from there: Ask her out on a date, bring her flowers or one of her favorite things, draw a bath for her, Talk to her and really listen, suprise her, write a love note focusing on the positive and what you appreciate about her. I think letting her know you are there and care, love, and support her when or if she is ready to talk about her weight. Have you read the Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus series? I recommend them - very insightful. I have always been very sensitive about my weight and it is still difficult to talk about. Having lapband surgery less than 2 weeks ago was a decision I had to personally be ready. I wish the best for both of you!

    Band Longevity?

Hi Everyone - There are 15 days until my lap band surgery, & I am excited and a little nervous too. I really appreciate everyone's posts and the great tips/information. It seems like I have been reading about a considerable amount of complications/ revisions lately. My general question is how long have you had your lapband, and what complications have you experienced? Any one out there 10 years or more?
