Going back to liquids to fix issues/lose weight?
Teeli replied to littlefroggy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WOW! I was so GLAD to read your post! I am having the same problem...looks like you fixed your's! So, starting tomorrow, it's liquids for me also! -
Well done! You go gal! and looking sooooooo good! Not only that, looking so happy and pleased with yourself! way to go! I doubt I will be trying the bike yet.... wanna lose more weight first...

Because I have 2 different kinds of arthritis, my joints give me Hell, fat or thin! I found that using a pair of Nordic Walking Poles allows me to walk further and faster , so i use them every day. They live in my car, and when I go somewhere I can use them, out they come. I also like to swim and walk lengths in my local pools which are thermally heated, but I prefer the water really hot because of my joint issues, so I am waiting for the winter season to start, sometime next month. On Monday I begin a weight lifting regime at the gym.I really need that to begin to firm up the flabby parts of me that are now even flabbier- yikes! Maybe the most consistent exercise I do is Leslie Sansone's Walk At Home series of dvds. They are fabulous and I like to do 3 miles a day if I can, either in front of my computer or in the lounge in front of the tv. I know when I am not seeing any movement on the scales, that I need to step up the exercise...

Way to go gal! I have a new bike in the garage also... but not enough nerve to ride it! hips and knees hurt too much now, to risk falling off! But maybe a bit further down the line...who knows? But..as for you..ENJOY!

Hi Marion....I think we BOTH deserve a pat on the back for our weight loss! Doesn't it seem strange to see that needle coming DOWN?I am so used to it going up.... Spoke with the surgeon today, he rang me in response to an email I sent yesterday, and he is very perplexed.Has told me to take Mylanta or Losec and record the result each time to help him pin point what is wrong. He is making extra time for me next Tuesday to try and solve this issue- he has never come across it before. DUH, just my usual luck to be the one weird one.He says it should not happen with the hiatal repair done at the same time...oh well.. we will find out next week I guess.Thank you for your encouragement. (As you see, I have changed my ticker info, but I still don't know HOW... each time I have to set it all up once again....being a bear of very little brain, I guess that's about par for the course, eh.)

You sure "sound" happy enough! LOL. You go gal!I bet it is good to taste all those different tastes in one meal! Instead of a conglomeration of everything. I am having problems with the mushies still...or with anything other than liquids. Thank goodness there's only a week to go until I see the surgeon again........

.....I can't eat 'em. I scrambled an egg this morning, very sloppy as advised...2 tablespoons, that was it. I tried a mince meat puree yesterday..same thing. I haven't had a fill yet, so it isn't restriction.Liquids? Soups? Shakes? no problemo. Anyone else have this issue, and if so, how did YOU deal with it?

Thank you both for your input. I guess I will stay away from eggs for now.As for the other stuff, maybe I need to only mush 1-2 ingredients together, like you do, Marion. Maybe chicken and mashed potato to start, yes, I'll try that. Not going to stress about it though,- I am due to return on 23rd for my weigh in and check up, I'll just do liquids if I have to, until then. It is a 4 hour trip to visit the surgeon's rooms, so I will just hang in there- but I WILL try just 1-2 ingredients. Thanks again.

Kia Ora, Christa! I live in New Zealand, so a lot of "stuff" is different between our 2 countries' medical systems. My insurance turned me down too, even tho I was classified morbidly obese with a BMI of 55...and have several life threatening illnesses. So I raised a loan against my home and went ahead privately. I had a hiatus hernia which the surgeon repaired at the same time as the lap band insertion.I haven't had reflux since! And I have lost 18kg ...and my BMI is down also...It has only been 3 weeks since my surgery and already I am walking again!! My advice is, FIND a way to get the surgery done- you won't regret it. :smile2:

I have only just found this forum- so cool to have one just for the over 60's! I had my lap band installed on 17th Feb, so I am 16 days post op and doing fine. I have 2 weeks still to go on liquids, which were started 2 weeks before surgery.(3rd Feb.)When I finally come off them , I will have been 5 weeks on liquids.I actually don't mind too much, except before the op, I was allowed the occasional meal bar, and I miss the chewing. With the liquid diet, my weight loss has been steady and quite dramatic, I have lost over 50lbs in those 5 weeks.Now- do I mind that? NOPE! I would be interested to know what mushies/purees, everyone in here began with....I seem to be at a loss to come up with anything tasty. I have a savoury tooth, so I am drinking mainly soups because the shakes are so sweet.But..mushies? I did hear that eggs are a bit difficult for most folks......any ideas? Teeli

Morena Sandy! Thank you for your suggestions. I shall certainly try them out. I cheated last night and made up a batch of minced meat and vegetables which I then whizzed up into a puree and froze in half cup pots. I had one for dinner. I didn't like it...arghhhhhhhh...I had no trouble with it, no pain , no discomfort, but somehow I didn't feel as full as I do with the liquids- weird eh. I think maybe I will wait the week out and try again, this time with poached or scrambled eggs. :smile2:

Morena Narion! I have uploaded a pic, changed my gender status, added all my details and submitted THREE times. It appears fine but as soon as I return to the forum as such, nothing has changed. I am quite used to filling out profiles etc as I am active in many online forums, but I can't make any headway with this one. And still no word from Admin.....:smile2:

Filppin heck! It worked! Thanks Marion! :smile2:

Wellllll I think I have done it right..let's see...

Thanks for the link. I went there and made one, but now I don't know what to do with it! How to get it here? It probably won't work here anyway- no matter what I do, I am listed as Male... all my data is 0 ...and I can not change the USA doctor's name or even delete it.I have written to management twice but haven't heard anything. It's a bit discouraging really...........:smile2:

I have wondered, too.Seems possible, doesn't it? Seems like folks are embarrassed to admit they have taken this step. However, I DONT feel ashamed in my own case. I tell anyone who asks! Why not? It takes a lot of courage to do this, and it isn't easy either. This is no quick fix! It's a lifetime committment.D***ed sight harder than dieting. My GP was so pleased with me- he asked my permission to tell some other of his patients about me, and asked if he could get them to contact me. I have no objection,- I think the more people know that sometimes we can NOT just diet the fat off, the better. They also need to know it isn't just a case of being greedy...or lazy, that we got that size. The surgeon explained to me that thru years of dieting my internal set point for my metabolism had become screwed up, -this operation gives me a chance to re-set it.He says people who have never been fat should just shut their mouths- and I agree. Whatever any of us do to improve our health and well being, not to mention our confidence and self image, can only be good. So, be proud of your deciscion, be proud of your acheivments! You did it, with some help from medical science, maybe, but YOU did it!:smile2:

Hi.... Lucky you! No shoulder tip pain! I wish mine would go!But I had no stomach pain, so maybe it evens out, lolol. Pre-op I lost 8kg.Since the op I have lost another 10..that's averaging out at 5kgs per week now. I am thriled. I began at 136 and I am now 118.Mind you, this is on the surgeons scales which are on deep carpet. My own scales and my GP's scales show I have lost a lot more, even starting at 136 kgs, they show me at 112 now.( which is 24kgs) I am still on liquids, but like I say, I could stay on them quite happily. Heaps of energy, at least in the mornings, flagging a bit by late afternoon. I have made sure I have stuff like Farex and weetbix in the pantry for when I start the second stage of the programme. How do you get your ticker bar? It looks like a fun thing to have.:smile2:

Hi there Marion! Well, we kiwis also term ourselves downunderers, after all we are even more downunderer than our Aussie neighbours! LOL..Next stop Antarctica! I am glad you are doing so well...and enjoying your mushie time. I guess I will enjoy it also- when I get to it.But, 5 weeks on liquids has been good for me. Yeah, I don't think I will be trying those eggs anytime soon- I had heard they are pretty difficult.I keep getting this mental flash of that leetle leetle passage thru the band...and what happens when a lump of food blocks it!or a skin from a tomato or apple.CRIPES! I'll try baby food first I think, like Farex and purreed dinners, just add extra protein powder to them. Did you have shoulder tip pain? I still have it, even 16 days afterwards. It isn't as bad as it was, but it still is mighty unpleasant.:w00t: Thanks for answering, and giving me some ideas for mushies. :smile2:
-
WOW! You started mushies so soon! I bet you are pleased! I have another week yet before I do, but I really don't mind the liquid diet at all. The most important thing, they tell me, is to avoid vomiting, or lifting anything heavy. I am dying to get to the gym and do some weight work, but the doc says not yet, I should not do anything that involves the core muscles. You will feel better and better as each day goes by...and as you fold up and give away those "fat clothes", lolol. Good luck! Teeli:thumbup:

...or as we say in my land, Kia Ora!I am a new bandster- it is my 2 week anniversary today.after 4 weeks so far, of liquid only diet, I am down by 50.7 lbs ( or 23 kgs)...and loving it. It was a hard decision to make, to have the band fitted, but I am so glad Idid it. I am so glad to have found this place , now I can learn more from all you people who have already mastered the whole thing!

Hi there. I am 2 weeks post operation. I had 2 weeks pre-operation where I had to have liquids only...Optifast, CelebritySlim, etc...and now 3 weeks post op. Next week will be my last week of liquid diet, making 5 weeks in all. The weight is falling off, I am already 23 kgs(50.7 lbs) lighter already.I think I will be almost sorry to leave the liquid diet and progress to mushies and purees. I love the soups! and I flavour the shakes with essences or fruit juice etc to ring the changes.:tongue2:I use iced water with ice cubes in it, for the shakes, and use a magic Bullet to blend it into a frappe. However, I have to admit, I prefer savoury to sweet, but, hey! It's all good! I think I will probably use protein powder even when I am on ordinary food again...
