December 2010, I had the Lap-Band placed by my current surgeon. My weight at the time of the surgery 199 pounds. During the first year following the surgery I made slow but steady progress resulting in a 29 pound weight loss; however, beginning in 2012 I began to have issues with my band. Over the course of the next two years I had emptied my band completely and slowly refilled it to a maximum of 2.5cc’s three times in an effort to aid my weight loss. Facing yet another attempt of empting the band and beginning the process again this summer I requested a consultation to consider other options. My surgeon and I met to discuss the results of recent imaging and decided the best option was to convert to gastric by-pass. On November 10, 2014, the surgery was performed. I learned not only had my band slipped out of it original placement but the surgery lasted an additional hour and a half due to the number of adhesions that formed around my band.
