Band Opening less than 1 Centimeter

Hi, I too have just experienced the same thing, i had my band in Sept 06 and have lost twelve stone, but since nov last year, i suddenly developed very tight restriction, this was followed by several de-fills which initally worked only to tighten again within a few weeks. I then had a complete de fill with no reduction in my symptoms- no food going down and fluids taking forever, had a barium swallow, where they told me i had a very small opening. This was followed by surgery which resulted in my band being replaced , I am a little confused over what had happened and am yet to talk to my surgeon in depth, but it appears that the pouch had distended above the band , resulting in slip like symptoms although the band had not actually slipped. They had to remove the band and replace it 3cm higher, creating a smaller pouch= so back to six weeks of mushies and trying to regain a little weight !!!. Tanya

    why not go for "slim"?

This was a very difficult question to answer pre op.. It wasn't about striving to reach a certain weight/bmi but about not being able to imagine myself at that size, if you see what I mean. Now 7 months down the line,, and with over 80lbs lost, I can start thinking about where I want this to go, and reaching a healthy bmi seems the most logical Tanya x

new and seeking advice re removal

My surgeon was a bit more conservative about life span of the band, he said that although it should be for life, it is an unknown quantity, and may need replacing somewhere down the line. Tanya xx

    Nsv - Yippee!!

It is so rewarding when you are able to get rid of stuff. My greatest one was getting rid of my knickers, every single pair, and buying new smaller ones :clap2: :clap2: Tanya xx

Hi everyone, I am also from Somerset, and was banded in Taunton in Sept 06. Tanya xx
  10. Thank you for posting this, I am glad you and your baby are well. I am a midwife in the UK, and have only come across one banded pregnant lady, who, successfully maintained a safe weight loss throughout her pregnancy. Vommitting in early pregnancy is very common, however you should always be caucious about taking anti emetics ( anti sickness ) medication as so few of them are safe in pregnancy. Some women find ginger useful, or travel bands with acupressure points on the wrists, it may also help to have very little meals, but more often, or to try and eat a dry biscuit or dry toast before getting up in the morning. Congratulations with your pregnancy, and i hope you enjoy the remainder of it. Tanya xx

  12. I found this site about a week after banding, and it really helped me through those early weeks. Tanya x
  13. I started as a UK 28/30, and can only imagine being an 18. Thinking beyond that and trying to visualise myself any smaller is impossible at the moment, I just have no idea who that woman will be, or what she will look and think like, its such an alien concept. Tanya xx

    September Bandsters

Hi September Bandsters, Has every-one had their first fill. Had mine on Wednesday evening, 5.5mls in 10ml band. Had my fill at 8 pm and by 11pm could not even swallow my own saliva. Spent a miserable night being sick, and had to return for a de-fill of 1 3/4 mils leaving 3 3/4 in the band. My surgeon assures me that must first fills are between 5-6mls. Does any one ever have trouble with swelling after a fill, I wondered if I should have stuck it out for a bit longer. Its great to see how well everyone is doing, Tanya xx

It is getting harder to stay on track, and I can't wait for my first fill on Nov 8th. Its great to see how well everyone is doing. Tanya xx
  17. Hi , I have been browsing this forum for a few days and have found lots of useful information. My name is Tanya, I am 38 , married with four children. I had my lap band surgery on the 26/9/06. So far everything seems to be going well, although I am feeling hungrier as the days go on. I am due to have my first fill on 3/11/06 and can't wait to truly get this show on the road:) I finally decided to have the band after yet another embarrising day at work, I am a midwife and had just delievered a baby to a mum who was squatting, so I was lying on the floor, baby delievered and I passed her up to a delighted mum, then had to get her partner to help me up !!! I started at 303lbs and will not get on the scales until I have my first fill, however, my trousers are already getting looser. Looking forward to chatting to you over the coming months. Tanya x
  18. I was determined not to weigh until my first fill on 8th November, but curiosity got the better of me at work today, was testing a womans urine in the bathroom and was on the scales before i knew it, 19lbs lost !!!!!, am on day 16. I was so excited, ran out into the office to tell everyone and left the poor woman in early labour wondering what the hell was going on . Tanya x

    Self Pay - Capital One

I applied for a bank loan for a conservatory for mine, !!! Repayments will be £ 90 per month for next 9 years, well worth it . Tanya xx
  20. Hi Kirsten, I too, am two weeks post surgery and also feel able to eat anything. I guess the only thing stopping me, is reading about band slippage. Initally I struggled to get runny liquids down, but have no problem any more. My first fill is on November 8th, and it seems like an age away. I think it is wise to remember the advice posted so often on this board, and that is , these weeks are for healing. I know where you are coming from though and just want to get the wheels moving.
