I turned 50 in December.  I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.  I have apnea/diabetes/high blood pressure/high colesterol/reflux.  I feel like a failure at life.  I was a thin child. I weighed under 100 pounds in high school. I weighed less than 130 pounds (6 feet tall) until my mid 20s.  By 32 years old I was sneaking up on the 200s (size 16/18).  I lost down to 180 in 1991.   Around 1993 I was a size 10. By 1999 I weighed about 220.  A happy by product of a nasty divorce was weight loss to 190 again (size 18).  Between 2001 and 2011 I gained steadily and am now 265 pounds at a size 22.  I also carry my weight around my abdomen which is so dangerous health wise.  I have no children, so no excuses for the weight gain.  I do not want to spend the second half of my life fat and sick.  I want to retire healthy and travel or anything else I want to do.  I almost had lap band surgery about 5 years ago, but my husband talked me out of it.  So I thought I'd try diet and exercise again.  I just won't do it.  I can't commit to it long term.  If I could I wouldn't be fat now.  I keep going back and forth between banding and Roux/Y.  The banding horror stories with fills gone wrong, tightness and getting stuck and never being able to eat certain things causes me to lean toware Roux/Y.  However the smart side of me says that at my age with diabetes, I could really be taking a risk at not healing correctly or something else going wrong with Roux/Y.  So I've come back around to banding.  It is at least reversible if something goes wrong and I'm not losing any body parts permanently.  My family practitioner is really on board with me having one or the other.  He thinks it would reverse my health issues drastically.  I have started my research again.  I'm looking at Dr. Fox here in Richardson, TX as he seems well accredited and was written up as a good doctor in "D" Magazine.
