All this talk about running is motivating me more and more. Please let me know how the Garmin works out for you Julie.. I am salivating as we speak!! I had a good run this morning. Me and my husband rearranged our schedules and ran together after we dropped off the kids. Today for 45 minutes and it was fun!!! I love that I can keep up with him (he asked me to slow down at one point!!) My scale hates me.. but who cares. I was up 2 lbs this weekend, but I too (Julie) know it is lying. My clothes are loser and I am getting in good shape so... that's the way it goes. I will chat later!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/179/165 Exercise sessions this month= 20 sessions

Hi Guys, I know I have been sporadic lately, but work has been none stop. I hope everyone is well. It looks like all of you are working hard. I see everyone setting goals... great, I am not sure I can set any right now.. seem to be a bit stuck at 177... but I am determined. I am running more and more, my long run is now 8 km... which I did on Thursday in 59.20!!! For me that is good. I am hoping to do a 10 km in 2 weeks... so we'll see. Our trip to Europe is coming in 3 weeks... can't wait!!! Talk to you all later!! Dawn banded April 4, 2006 Montreal, Quebec 358/177/165 Exercise sessions this month = 20

Hi everyone, Betty... I am sure you look amazing... I am also sure that you will never be a size 3 X again. A size 12 sounds good to me!!! Julie... 9 pounds is just your scales playing games. In 4 days it is just not really possible. What 1/2 marathon are you planning on doing? I finally signed up for the disney is January 2008. It will be tough, but I am determined. I took the morning off and ran with my dh. It is the first time we have run together. We can (gulp) 8 k- which is 5 miles. It took me 63 minutes and 13 seconds... but I did it. So... I guess it can be done. My legs feel like rubber, but that is a good feeling. I will weigh in tomorrow... so I'll let you know. The lower we get the harder it is!!! Just a quick note, Today I reached my goal (at least the one I thought would be amazing to reach when I was so heavy). So... I will have to set a new goal. I can't belive it. I owe a lot to you guys for all the support along the way. It has been an amazing adventure. We just booked a hiking trip in Switzerland, as part of our European vacation - I would not have been able to do that before!!! Today is my happy day. To top it off I had a great run this morning - 4.3 km in 30 minutes!!! l love my life right now!!! Dawn Banded april 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/178/179 ( I guess I need a new goal) How about go with this 358/178/165??? Exercise sessions this month = 5

I am on a training program where M, T I run 40 minutes, Saturday I run for distance ( 4 miles next week, then maintain that for 3 weeks, then I go to 5 miles...), T and F I cross train by hiking or doing stepping. So... that is my time. I like having the program as it takes my guess work out of what I am going to do. I do not have a treadmill, so I run outside... which is a bit challening because I live in the Arctic (snowing today!!) For a good reference for beginning running try the http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml it started me off!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/180/179

Hi Everyone, sorry I haven't been around much. It sounds like you are all doing well. Sorry for those of you under the weather. I have been doing well, just busy like you wouldn't believe! Running is going great. Yesterday a personal best of 5 km is 33 minutes (I am trying hard to catch you Boo!!!), and I am 1 pound from my original goal. Julie did you say teens??? There is no way I am going to get there or want to. It will be impossible for me to maintain and I would look sick. I am thinking that 155 may be good and reasonable for me... but I am reminding myself that if I hit my original goal, all else is bonus. I am thinking of doing the running room 5 km on my next trip, and you all know that I am training towards the 1/2 marathon in January. So... we'll see it it happens!! snowing here today... glad it was a rest day, but I can't wait to run without gloves!!! Hi Everyone, Kat... my prayers are really with you, you and Alan deserve so much. The world needs to have great people like you. Betty, 169... congrats to you!! Julie, I am with you. I need to look at a new goal, but am unsure about what it will be. I have been tinkering with 149.5 (since it will put me in the normal range), but I am not sure if it is really feasible. So, I think I will look at an interm goal for now and then see how it feels when I get there. I have 2 pounds to get to my original goal, and can't really believe it... but I also know that I want to lose more. I think my interm will be something like 168... and then I will see how I feel. My running is going really well. I am feeling strong and happy and my time is improving. For me the key has been to have a clear training plan set. I know which days I will run and how long or far I will run for. For me that helps a lot. This morning I am going out for 3 miles. Have a good weekend! HI everyone, Hope you are all heading into a good weekend. My guys (my dh and my son) are in Edmonton (half way across Canada and a lot further south) for a karate camp, so it is just me and my girl for a few days. Kind of nice. Well, the scale is moving slowly,so I have nothing to complain about... gosh my size 16 jeans are getting baggy!!! Talk to you later!! Boo, congrats on that great time!!! I totally admire you!!!!! It is my dream to get my 5 km down to 30 minutes. I did 4 km in around 29 minutes this morning so I still have a ways to go. Julie, glad to know you are feeling well. That ticker is looking awesome. Best of luck to all of those starting on your journey. Juli, good luck on your running. I started slow too!!! Actually I started walking 2 minutes and running 30 seconds, it was all I could do. But now I ran my first 5 km race 2 weeks ago (37:48 was my time) and I ran the whole thing without needing to stop. I love running now, and am on a 9 month program to build towards a 1/2 marathon in January. (I am hopeful, but know it is a big goal and will just enjoy the journey). Good luck!! Just sending a quick 'hi' from a 2006 April Bandit. I was reviewing the posts here and you guys seem to be doing really well. Don't be afraid to ask questions... we are all here for you. The journey is so worthwhile. Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/187/179 Ran my first 5 km 2 weeks ago!!! Exercise sessions this month = 6 sessions -
Boo, Great time on your 5 km... I am jealous (but motivated too) Waterlily, I am an educational consultant, and the mother of a child with special needs (my great 8 year old has Asperger's Syndrome). I would look at many things... is his reading and printing the only signs of deficit? (sorry to use that word), Does he attend well to instruction, follow directions, play with others and toys? One area that is becoming more reviewed is that of Non-Verbal Learning Disorder. Where the child speaks well, but has a very different way of learning- not that they are not smart, just in need of different support. If you google Non-verbal learning disorder you will find lots of information. As well, his teacher should be able to make suggestions about his needs. Good luck to you... the road can be really long. I had a great, tough, exhausting run today... but I felt like I ruled the road!!! p.s. Julie... I am doing my best to 'catch you' (you should be so proud!!) Have a good Easter everyone!! Okay everyone... Here I am back in action. I have been away on medical appointments with my family in Montreal. It was nice weather and great to run in the warmth for a change. I have reworked my workout schedule and feel really happy about it. Yesterday I did a 4 km with sprints at the end of it. It felt great!!! So... I am working on a new challenge... I am thinking of training for a 1/2 marathon, but I will have to wait and see how this body adapts to the increased distance. I figure the worst that will happen is I will get a great 10 k under my belt. Julie... I am so glad you are doing well. I have been thinking lots about you!! We seem determined to keep our weight about the same (wanna join me if I actually get to the 1/2 marathon). How is everyone else?? Welcome to any new members out there. The road is really long, but oh so worthwhile. Someone told me yesterday that I looked petite (not really true, but it felt good)!! Talk to you later!!!!! Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!
DeltaDawn replied to Rockin' Robyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just putting in my new weight loss stats. As of today (1 year and 2 days after my band) I am down 171 lbs. Have run my first 5 km and feel so good. Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/187/179 -
Well, I am going to chime in on these great questions! What is your "Bandiversary" goal? I don't think I had one, but if I had to say, it would be to be to be only 10 lbs to goal. What have you learned this past year? That I am strong, that it is possible, that the weight did not define me, but it did change me, that I can be proud with being ego drivenand... that the support of those you love is the most important part of this entire equation. Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? Wow... there have been so many buying jeans at GAP being hit on at restaurants being told that I have the vitals of an athlete running my 5 k race being asked to leave a support group, because it was for those with weight concerns (I had to explain) a colleague not recongnizing me... the best... my daughter telling me how fun it is to go sliding together What is your biggest challenge? not being over confident not spending too much money on new clothes (my latest addiction) What tips would you pass on to the April 2007 newbies? think of your band like a tool that will support you follow the rules add exercise when you think you can and know that you are human and we all make poor choices at times What is your greatest fear? gaining weight changing me too much people treating me differently What goals do you have for the future? get to the weight I am happy with run a 5 k in under 35 minutes keep running How has your life changed? wow... is there enough room to list them all??? easily buying clothes I like getting a taxi has never been easier I feel more comfortable in my body physically I can do what I want now without having to worry Has living with the band met up to your expectations? exceeded If you could talk to yourself a year ago, what would you say? It's okay... you will make this journey, you are ready to be in this place, it is where you are supposed to be... and you will be supported and you will be proud Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/191/179 exercise this month= 22

DeltaDawn replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, I have been quiet this week as I have been in Montreal on business (what an amazing city... I am here a lot and still love it... if you have never been you should go!!) Anyway, I hope you are all doing well. Kat, I am glad Rick is doing well and I love G A too!!! Betty, how are you and Alan? Molly, good for you! Boo... I love reflect, dream, succeed!!! That is so true. Julie, how are you? Your strength and positive attitude always inspire me!!! Well... today is the day!!!! I am going to be running my 5 k here in MTL. It is around -2 C, so that is fine by me... used to running in the cold ya know!! So... I will post later and let you know how it went. I have three goals, and the last goal is not that important. 1. Finish the race (really the only one that matters) 2. Finish in under 40 minutes 3. Don't be the last to finish (or least don't let everyone be waiting for me to cross the line... okay here she comes we can go home now!!) So... I will post later today. Yikes I am nervous!!! Anyone had luck with insurance covering some/all of surgery?
DeltaDawn replied to Scornelius's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My insurance company- SSQ in Quebec, agreed to cover the cost of the band itself as a medical device (up to 80% of the max they decided which was $4500)... so I consider myself lucky. Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/191/179 -
A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
DeltaDawn replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Smilelee, Yes it is possible!!!! I hope it goes well for you. I am almost at my 1 year anniversary. I have lost 169 lbs! And, I am running my first race- a 5 km on Sunday. It has been tough, but the band gives me that tool that makes it possible. I had little restriction (1 fill 10 months ago), but it is enough to just remind me and then I am okay. I know I have been lucky. I added the exercise on when I weighed about 260 lbs (I found it too hard earlier) and then it came off more easily. Best of luck to you!!
